Namaskaram, I’m an avid gardener and I live in the mountains of SoCal. I love the feeling of my hands in the soil and the smell of the rich organisms and carbons. I read my plants to see how well they are doing and change anything they need. The last few years, I’ve noticed minor changes in my plants and our seasons have come earlier than a few years ago. I started trench composting this year. I keep a compost container for all my kitchen scraps (coffee and tea grounds, fruits and vegetable scraps) and then just go out, dig a hole, dump it in and cover it back up with the soil. Within 4-5 weeks, the composting material has pretty much broken down. I haven’t thrown anything kitchen scraps in the garbage since, reusing the same composted spots after 1 or 2 months. I also did this for my plants pots. It’s very easy, no need to buy anymore fertilizer and my plants are growing so well this year!
If every home do this and if we do this to every desertification places, we can save our soil!

After recognizing this problem many years ago now, I began to learn about soil degradation and soil regeneration. The process is deeply facinating. People look to the heavens for salvation, but we completely overlook that all life cycles and is made possible through the concious cultivation of soil. Culture, Civilization, Agriculture itself is the engagement with soil.
