She was given a distorted edit in Palau, they heavily edited her to look good only because they needed an underdog. I personally prefer Guatemala Steph as she felt way more genuine in comparison. Kass was deliberately given a nasty edit in Cagayan to sell the fact that Spencer is an underdog, but in reality, Spencer had way more moments of arrogance and deceit than what we saw but production needed an underdog false hero decoy winner pick. Come second chances, Spencer literally had zero chances of winning especially after what he said to Wentworth at the F4 and yet was still given an overwhelmingly positive growth edit. I like both Spencer and Kass as characters on the show but the edit did both of them really dirty (notably moreso on Kass) and basically milked their own milk for the drama and to sway the fanbase to hate on a particular character through their edit.

Stephenie never wins this season unless she takes Bobby Jon to the end, in my opinion. Given that this was the first time players returned in a non all-stars setting, I don't think a jury full of first-time players was ever going to be in Stephenie's favour otherwise

Apparently, the producers (Jeff Probst included) prefer to pretend that Survivor: Guatemala never happened. They prefer Palau Stephenie over Guatemala Stephenie.
I remember watching this at the time and I didn't know what a pick was. It felt like Stephenie was insulting me personally, reminded me of childhood bullies, and frankly she became one of my least favorite Survivors in that moment. Just watched palau and guatamala back to back. I don't think the show makes it super clear of how bobby john is a locked in vote for danni. The fact that he plays with steph twice and doesn't respect her game enough for a vote is the biggest red flag for why steph lost. I also think the show doesn't make it clear that people didn't want returning players to win. Her top 6 performance is bad, but the biggest reason for losing was that she didn't manage other people's "hero" perception of her.
I love Stephanie and I know you’re going through Guatemala players but I’d love to see some variety from other seasons if possible. Love your videos so much, just feeling burnt out on this season.

I like Stephanie but I don’t think that it is fair for all the people saying Danni didn’t deserve to win as. As Stephanie had bad jury management meanwhile Danni was able to manipulate Rafe to keep her safe. Which is a good strategy
Danni didn't get the airtime Steph got, which is why she got that that criticism. People look at the quantity of content a player gets rather than the content itself (also see: Natalie White)
I've never been able to hate Stephanie even though she does and says really stupid stuff sometimes. She just brought a certain something to the game from the first time she appeared that I just can't help but love watching her. She def has main character energy.
I’ve read Guatemala was set up Stephanie’s baby to win but What production didn’t count on was the other players being resentful she was given a second chance to play. To make sure that didn’t happen with Boston rob they purposely cast the biggest idiots they could find for redemption island
I was really a Stephanie fan in her first trip to Survivorville. Her second time out I wonder if she was trying not to get caught playing the way she had to the first time out. It was back to back seasons so that has to be tough.
34:13 "At the immunity challenge, Jeff doesn't offer anyone pizza to not do the challenge, so Stephanie competes and wins..." I see what you did there 😆

Steff just looked nervous and even stuttered answering that joke... 🤣🤣🤣
I know it might be a controversial opinion, but I really do believe Guatemala, Redemption Island, and South Pacific all would've been much better seasons WITHOUT the returning players - and instead with two additional newbie cast members. Like yeah they bring the star power, but it really hinders anyone else from really becoming iconic - AKA people remembering the runners up in Steph and Coach but not the winners in Danni and Sophie. And as seen with Stephanie and Coach, sometimes returning actually ruins the things that made them so likeable in the first place. :( This season is also, if i'm remembering correctly, the only season of the series to not feature any non-white contestants? But I could be wrong about that. Overall it's a really good season with an incredible location and my second-favorite (behind Pearl Islands) way to start a season ever; 11 mile two-day hike through jungle!
Stephanie is the most underrated female player of all time. She was great as a strategist. If Guatemala would have been s25-40 the votes would have been in her favour and Danni getting only one vote.
@CaptainAwesomesworld that's what he is saying if she had competed in a recent season she would have won because she was a great strategist and very strong but she wasn't very well liked.
@CaptainAwesomesworld If she was that bad with the people why was she in the control the entire game? People do not stay and play with someone that is bad to them. They made her a villain and made you think she was unlikable cause they had to do Danni the hero then as a winner. You can ask the Guatemala players how was she and they will tell you that was not the case. Her social game was strong, the only problem is she voted out her allies which cost her but without doing that she could not get to the end
I don’t think Steph was gonna with even if she didn’t burn her jury votes with Judd, Cindy, Lidia, because of her reputation of being a returning player.
I can't stand Stephenie. Even in Palau she was extremely obnoxious and entitled, but she got a more favorable edit so it's harder to see her true personality. It was definitely still there, though. It's ok if you don't like Steph, personally she is my favorite contestant and I don't agree with what you mention about what happened in HvsF, since James verbally assaulted Steph and apparently nobody remembers that event and they see this guy like a star when in reality he is disgusting and disgusting, a true psychopath, so think carefully about your arguments because the ones you mentioned are not valid.

Stephanie was really dumb post merge. I think she could have beaten Judd in the final cuz no one really liked him and I don't really think he would have done a great job in ftc. The problem is back then the jury expected people to be loyal and honest in a game that requires lying and deceit to get ahead. From what I saw people loved hanging with her in camp. If her social game truly sucked then she wouldn't have made it as far as she did, and from what I saw everyone truly seemed to enjoy being around her. @@OnceUponAnIsland that is what I am referring to, but I dont think "getting through" a tribal is really enough to qualify as smart in that moment. She wasn't in any danger herself, just she got played and weakened her own game overall in that vote. I agree with you. Kind of funny that everyone thinks Jerri is a Hero now but they look back on Stephanie and call her a villain when really her gameplay was just straight up better and would fit in with modern day survivor. The only reason people didn't like her is because they see her complaining, but I'm pretty sure literally EVERY survivor EVER has been a sore loser at one point or another throughout the show. But for some reason Stephanie gets heat for it? And the jury was just a bitter jury because they believed her lies. In modern day survivor, if you go home because you believed someone's lies, that's just part of the game. Shame to see so many people calling her a villain.
@@gundhamtanaka8202 yes it’s so frustrating I don’t even think many people rewatch the season they just let their frustration from a different time carry over. I never found her that likeable in Palau I only got the sense that she complained whenever things didn't go her way she thinks she's all that and it's her tribemates are the problem she didn't really come across like a hero until she was the last person standing which even then she felt entitled to make it all the way. We get to Guatemala and everything unlikeable about her is amplified she ends up losing to someone who's game is hidden to the point of avoiding producers because of how unlikeable she is and that to me says it all
Why is that?? I though Steph was pretty good even though I thought she complained too much, but she proved that she had something to prove and Steph and Rafe was a dynamic duo in challenges so that helped for me
Stephenie maybe the most overrated Survivor player ever. She was a key member of the worst tribe in history. She comes back and plays a solid strategic game but her social game was one of the top 5 worst we've seen. Her 3rd appearance speaks for itself

Lol I think the Steph in Palau is overrated lol. She whines and complains about everything and thought she "deserved" to be there. How entitled is that? No one "deserves" to stay on Survivor over another player. Sorry, but if you get voted out you get voted out. That's the way the game works. Honestly, even though she’s seen as a physical player, I think she’d kick ass in today’s game. Her strategic game was on point, exactly how a modern player would play it. If she was in a duo with someone who was less abrasive, she would totally be able to win.
She could’ve won Guatemala had she kept her alliance with Judd and Lydia. Instead she chose to go with Danni and Rafe, two people she had no chance of beating.
The fact she was asked back after Palau became showed how tough she was is very incredible. So not a bad player here than there.

You are right
What do you think Stephenie needed to do differently to win this season?
Production didn't count on the other players being resentful she was given another chance. There really wasn't much she could have done. That’s Why to make sure Jeff’s boyfriend Boston Rob could finally win they basically cast his fan club
@@zt1053 True, but that said, her jury management was really bad. Her best option may have been to try to work with Bobby Jon to get to the end together, so the jury doesn't have a choice but to vote for one of them.
She did decent because she never really improved anything form Palau, but she proved that she can led a winning tribe and prove that she got the skills to succeed in the game
Decent outing
She would have had to change her entire obnoxious, grating, and entitled personality so people would actually want to vote for her lol
Stephenie never wins this season unless she takes Bobby Jon to the end, in my opinion. Given that this was the first time players returned in a non all-stars setting, I don't think a jury full of first-time players was ever going to be in Stephenie's favour otherwise
It's funny how she gets a "hero" mark from you multiple times where she starts crying when she doesn't get her way (which I think most people wouldn't view as sympathetic at all), and STILL winds up overwhelmingly villainous even by this scoring lol
We need another alpha male rivalry like Bobby Jon and Jamie.. when they both bucked up is one of the most memorable moments ever, for me, they were ready to fuckin' go at each other. 😹😹

If she improved the FTC drastically, maybe. She’s not as good as justifying her moves like Sarah Lacina, Adam Klein, and Nick Wilson were. Or Tony Vlachos.
@@josabby474 no she completely lost that FTC when she brought danni to final 3, that jury was locked against her
YES!! Thank you OUAI! I've been waiting for this episode :D
Seeing her in Guatemala makes me wonder why the put her on the Heroes Tribe in Heroes vs Villains.
Apparently, the producers (Jeff Probst included) prefer to pretend that Survivor: Guatemala never happened. They prefer Palau Stephenie over Guatemala Stephenie.
I understand why Stephenie played more aggressively and villainous this season.
I remember watching this at the time and I didn't know what a pick was. It felt like Stephenie was insulting me personally, reminded me of childhood bullies, and frankly she became one of my least favorite Survivors in that moment. THEN the next episode she uses "gay" as an insult and my blood boils.
one of the most layered contestants on survivor ever
Just watched palau and guatamala back to back. I don't think the show makes it super clear of how bobby john is a locked in vote for danni. The fact that he plays with steph twice and doesn't respect her game enough for a vote is the biggest red flag for why steph lost. I also think the show doesn't make it clear that people didn't want returning players to win. Her top 6 performance is bad, but the biggest reason for losing was that she didn't manage other people's "hero" perception of her.
Bobby Jon didn't like Steph at all.
I love Stephanie and I know you’re going through Guatemala players but I’d love to see some variety from other seasons if possible. Love your videos so much, just feeling burnt out on this season.
Next is Tocantins and I have covered seasons 1-10 along with a few players from seasons 20 and 40, but I hear you.
One of my favourite players from my favourite season
When I watched Survivor Guatemala for the first time I didn’t really understand why people saw her as a villain but after rewatching this season and watching this video I understand why
Also I liked her for having a different type of out-loud personality obviously she wasn’t well received this season and for good reason but I enjoyed watching her story shift from underdog to top dog
Does anyone else agree that her beauty is flawless? She is perfect physically
Of interest - Stephenie was the last surviving member of her tribe again in Guatemala (both of her original tribe and her swapped tribe)
Yeah, I honestly thought of Stephanie and Rafe as this season's main antagonists.
Simply put. I am agnist having players in back to back season. Some of them didnt have time watch their first season and learn from their mistakes. Steph and Bobby should have return n FvsF.
Stephenie wanted all that food more than the million dollars. Lol
I ain’t complaining with all the R drops lol different times anyways and entertaining 👌
Yes im so happy thx
i like Steph but there was no way she was gonna win that season. even against the likes of Judd, Jamie, and Lydia. her FTC was sooooo bad.
What about against Judd or Jamie?
@@OnceUponAnIsland the cast didn’t like the fact that these returning players are getting a second shot. the only time a returning player was won a one (or two) returnee per tribe was Boston Rob. and it was well documented that the jury wanted to vote for Phillip. i think Jamie and Judd would beat her as it would be merely a vote against her rather than a vote for her. she showed zero accountability for her actions and couldn’t even explain her moves.

Stephenie's return in 'Guatemala' was just like Wendell's in 'Winners at War'. Both Stephenie and Wendell went from being likable heroes to very unlikeable villains. They might've been victims of bad editing, but they were still not the same players from their first seasons.
I like Stephanie but I don’t think that it is fair for all the people saying Danni didn’t deserve to win as. As Stephanie had bad jury management meanwhile Danni was able to manipulate Rafe to keep her safe. Which is a good strategy
She also bamboozled Steph with the Judd vote out.
Danni didn't get the airtime Steph got, which is why she got that that criticism. People look at the quantity of content a player gets rather than the content itself (also see: Natalie White)
I like the way she plays.
Nice, we got a Villain-Smart-Dumb! Wonder if we’ll get a Hero-Villain-Smart-Dumb one someday!
I've never been able to hate Stephanie even though she does and says really stupid stuff sometimes. She just brought a certain something to the game from the first time she appeared that I just can't help but love watching her. She def has main character energy.
She is on a new show called The Traitors! I highly recommend it.
She's one of my favorite players.

I want Stephenie👑 to play a fourth time
I haven't seen the season but based off of these videos, it seems doubtful Lydia loses to Stephenie if they were the f2.
I think steph did pretty good this season all things considered. Her biggest flaw was her end game boot order.
And how she treated them.

I actually did that once in Outlaster when I was up against FOUR kids in the jury box and two are sitting in the final three with me, all six were real life friends. I played the best strategic game by playing idols on myself and being immune most of the game. Since I knew I wasn't winning, I just chewed everyone out at FTC, only to win by the most shocking 3-2-2 vote possible. The four jurors split the votes 2-2 while I received all 3 bonus votes (chosen at random) from the game and won. Stephenie LaGrossa is my All-Time Favorite Survivor Castaway 🔥🔥 (Palau, Guatemala, Heroes Vs Villains)
I watched HvV again the other day. Her plug of her “filet mignon” pizza restaurant was SO cringe
Why no more season reviews??
Who said they were done?
I agree should have won her 2nd season!
Why is that?

I can't stand Stephenie. Even in Palau she was extremely obnoxious and entitled, but she got a more favorable edit so it's harder to see her true personality. It was definitely still there, though. I felt like we saw her true personality soooo much more in Guatemala and in HvV. One voice, Stephenie! Shut up! lol I just really really dislike her. She's so abrasive and just obnoxious. I am soooo glad Danni won that season, although I would have been the happiest if Rafe won. Stephenie just sucks! She is one of my least favorite players of all time. She makes it hard to even watch Guatemala because her personality is so grating and she is just so rude! I hope she never plays again. I mean my gosh, Bobby John couldn't stand her, most of the Guatemala cast couldn't stand her, Rupert, James, Cirie, Amanda, etc. all wanted her out ASAP.... I mean yikes, you know you have a horrible personality when THAT many people can't stand you lol
@@geovannyreyes807 Not valid according to your opinion lol. Stephenie was obnoxious. They all agreed that JT would run the challenge since he had already done it and won it on his season. She would not shut up. She can't just stand back and let anyone else be in charge. It has to be all about her, and because she kept arguing with JT, they lost. I love how when a girl is being outspoken and brash and yelling over everyone that's fine, but when a man calls her out on it he's suddenly verbally abusive lol. Give me a break. He told her to shut up because she's a big mouth and needed to shut up 😂. And her crying when she doesn't get her way is also obnoxious. She did it in Palau and in Guatemala. So dramatic. Trying to make ppl feel sorry for her. And I can't believe it worked both times. Because she thinks she somehow deserves to be there and win and get all the attention more than other people. If you look up entitlement in the dictionary it has got her face on it. I honestly don't see one redeemable quality in her.
I liked Stephanie... didn't seem like her play was TOO ruthless compared to like... Sandra. Also, that final challenge was in Danni's favor and unfair. I guess her Jersey blunt ways were wildly outshined by Danni's Kansas City fake girl next door charm.
I would’ve definitely been in on eating that chicken!
Wait wait wait, you said Rafe came off as stupid for thinking she should give up the car.
What?
@@OnceUponAnIsland my bad, you didn’t give an official stupid/smart her/villain point for his discussion of the car lol. I definitely think Stephanie had the better take on giving up the car. At least in modern survivor this isn’t as much a discussion since everyone knows people only give up rewards for social points.
You had a bad take on that. Giving an reward away doesn't guarantee you are safe. Anyone smart would take the car over what happened to Brenda.
Stephanie was really dumb post merge. I think she could have beaten Judd in the final cuz no one really liked him and I don't really think he would have done a great job in ftc. But then she blindsides him when it was lined up for final four. And then votes out Cindi because she gets convinced the sports radio girl, and very athletic, danni is less of a threat. Like, what?!??
I think her best final four would have been her, Cindi, Judd, and Lydia. Keep Lydia til 3 cuz she wouldn't win a challenge and go to the final with Judd
I think Rafa saw this scenario and would never allow this to happened.
Whole season she seem incredibly entitled, negative, always complaining about something, and disloyal. No wonder she got wrecked at final tribal. Must be unbearable living with her around camp
Entitled? Not sure how wanting to prove yourself makes you entitled. I guess Sandra and Tony must be entitled too since they were even cockier. Negative? Name me one survivor who doesn't have a negative side from time to time. Always complaining? Sure, when she lost a challenge. But again, every survivor in the history of the show has complained at least once when they lost a challenge. That's just a natural reaction. Disloyal? Guess you don't watch modern day survivor. Being disloyal is kind of expected of you if you want to stand a chance of ever winning and earning a jury's respect. Funny how people can think someone like Jerri is a hero nowadays but Steph, who never went through someone's bags without their permission, is somehow a villain.
@@gundhamtanaka8202 everyone’s negative from time to time but she’s always complaining about something. She called Bobby Jon “gay” for celebrating too loud in a challenge.

I think you gave Steph too many "smart" move moments, especially on some of the blind sides where you nicely laid out all the reasons it wasn't a good move (Judd and Lydia). She needed to keep Judd and she was tricked into voting against him, not sure how that gets a smart moment.
Are you referring to the tribal councils where someone gets voted out and I label it as smart or smart & dumb?
@@OnceUponAnIsland Smart & Dumb - there were a couple of times where you spelled everything out exactly why she shouldn't make that move (Judd for example) and then gave her both smart and dumb marks for what you explained to be a dumb move. The video is great by the way, just the scoring doesn't always match the content.
@@Alex-mf8qm If you are referring to at tribal council where I label it as smart and dumb, it is pretty basic. If someone survives a tribal council, that is smart. No matter what. Getting to the end of the game is half the battle so surviving a tribal by hook or by crook is good. The dumb label obviously refers to who went home and how.
@@OnceUponAnIsland that is what I am referring to, but I dont think "getting through" a tribal is really enough to qualify as smart in that moment. Rafe and Danni played her, tricked her with lies, to vote out one of her strongest allies in Judd, and probably her best final 2 person to win (all points you raised). She wasn't in any danger herself, just she got played and weakened her own game overall in that vote. I think your video does a great job of capturing all the context there of why it was a dumb vote for her then and in the larger narrative of backstab her "allies" that concluded in the final tribal. Your video is great, your channel is great, I just think some of the smart moments are mis-awarded. When you watch your entire video and the season, it's hard to say she was a very smart player that season.
Unpopular opinion but she wasn’t a villain this season. I feel like if this season aired nowadays she would be received better or at least be loved for a cute villainous strategy. People hate to see a player who isn’t an underdog anymore and we have to do better with that. If she didn’t play the way she did she probably wouldn’t make it being the first returning player ever in an all newbie cast. People hate to see someone vocal calling the shots and i don’t understand it 🤷🏽♂️
I agree with you.
Her gameplay would literally be called legendary if it were a more recent season and I genuinely don’t think she would be considered a villain.
This season proves my point of why I don't think Stephanie is that great.
Why is that?
I never found her that likeable in Palau I only got the sense that she complained whenever things didn't go her way she thinks she's all that and it's her tribemates are the problem she didn't really come across like a hero until she was the last person standing which even then she felt entitled to make it all the way. We get to Guatemala and everything unlikeable about her is amplified she ends up losing to someone who's game is hidden to the point of avoiding producers because of how unlikeable she is and that to me says it all

Stephenie maybe the most overrated Survivor player ever. She was a key member of the worst tribe in history. She comes back and plays a solid strategic game but her social game was one of the top 5 worst we've seen. Her 3rd appearance speaks for itself
Steph is playing. both sides of fence, a strategy which usually fails. On too of that ai just do not like her.

Danni was not the Steph of Palau in no means. You and others overrate her so much
She was clearly the underdog this season like Stephenie was in Palau. That has nothing to do with gameplay.
Lol I think the Steph in Palau is overrated lol. She whines and complains about everything and thought she "deserved" to be there. How entitled is that? No one "deserves" to stay on Survivor over another player. Sorry, but if you get voted out you get voted out. That's the way the game works. Just because you're athletic and try really hard it doesn't make you entitled to one more day out there.

I don't see how anyone can call Stephanie a villain. Kind of hypocritical if you compare her to jerri, who you claim isn't a villain.
I am only interpreting the storytelling of the show. Stephenie is a villain this season easily. Jerri was a villain in season 2 according to the storytelling. However, the video about Jerri was about ignoring the storytelling and looking at her actions on paper.
Stephenie's return in 'Guatemala' was just like Wendell Holland's in 'Winners at War'. Both Stephenie and Wendell went from being likable heroes to very unlikeable villains. They might've been victims of bad editing, but they were still not the same players from their first seasons.
