Bartitsu is in fact a real martial art that I had never heard of! Love learning new things with games. It's a western style of martial arts that is basically a form of street fighting for gentlemen involving pugilism and cane fighting.
I was just about to comment about Bartitsu. I remember learning about it a while back. It fits the character thematically, but I'm surprised to see it included in the game (giving how obscure it is.) Anyway, I like the house rules you came up with. They seem to address some of the problems I had while watching playthroughs when trying to decide if I should get the game.
Hi Daniel! To help with the map tiles layout you can use a piece of transparent plexiglass or acrylic on top of the tiles. Lets you see the tiles, keeps everything under control and provides extra protection :)
You have got me stoked to play Folklore again. Was waiting for the Fall of the Spire to arrive in Scotland but with the fulfilment stopped due to the mould issue, I’ll need to just go back to the core game. Oh - I use some house rules too (and prefer the standees as well😃)
For some time I was planning to come back to Folklore world again playing with 3 characters. I have the character sheets for 3 characters ready from BGG (for easier handling). But your house rules will help me to stay with 2 characters. :) Since Fall of the Spire now is pushed to 2021 with all this mold mess, I still have the base game to finish.
Was waiting for that one ! I know many people find it clunky but I absolutely love it in its current state ! I do not feel the need of houseruling it. I have everything except that expansion. Wondering about the desert setting in the lore
Unless a company is blind heavy cardboard tiles r done. These look better than most games r cheaper to ship so they can put $ were it counts into the artist. Also the book idea is a good way to go
It is nice to have standees for a change. It makes the game cheaper. It also doesn’t add anymore plastic to the pile of shame, meaning years worth of unpainted miniatures which I have enough of already.
@@TheDungeonDive Hi I assume you`ve looked under the plastic inserts? Everybody else, including me, seems to have mold on the inside bottom of the game box and the creature crate if you got that. Looking forward to your playthrough.
Daniel, hope you are well. Really like the format of this "playthough" - don't want the spoilers, but want your thoughts. In particular, whether you prefer the new combat system, and whether you would recommend playing the original game with this new system. FYI - pronunciations: "Mayjus", "Zorro-aster", "Sarasun". Good luck with your adventure!
If this goes well, I’m thinking that this will be the format for most lets plays on the channel. I think I will enjoy it more, and also be able to add some constructive commentary on the games in the process.
Get a rubber anti-vibration mat. They are $15 on Amazon, roll up easily, clean easily, indestructible, and most importantly, they keep cardstock dungeon tiles in place
I am a little confused. Not sure if I am missing something. I even checked boardgamegeek. I have the original, Dark Tales which is story Journal 2, and just ordered this one, which is story Journal 4, so where is Story Journal 3??
Journal III is Nightmare Tales, came with the Farmer's Bundle I believe. Might me able to download it from GB's website. They've got a bunch of stuff there.
@@TheDungeonDive thanks Do I really need that to round out the story or would I be ok getting the creation kit if I just have the core and the 2 big box expansions?
Can I play the original campaign with the new Fall of the Spire characters? They seemed more powerful to me, I don't know if it would be too easy, can anyone answer me?
I love your ability to look over a game and see the good and the bad, or quirks. Fiddly rules would'nt put me off overall as playing the game, and enjoying it, would iron those out i believe. I'm glad you don't spend time doing videos on games you hate. It seems like such a waist of energy to put out negative hyperbole. Folklore has been on my radar for some time. I love the "becoming a ghost" thing. It looks more interesting than your generic crawler. D&D has always been very off putting for me as there seems so much baggage to carry; metophorically and not. This seems to have the story elements, the character progression and game play but made miniture and less imposing. This expansion looks great, being in a city and all. Once again, this is a hard game to come by. My usual place where i buy games online has had it sold out since it's release. The bricks & Mortor stores give me a sympathetic look when i ask about it. What do you think of the many ancillary stuff. Crafting and recipes box, Creation kit etc.
Daniel, did your copy have mold or dampness on it? Threads on Kickstarter and BGG documenting the issue, Greenbrier has requested everyone NOT open what they have received while they sort it out with the manufacturer. MY Guard Dog pledge was through Crowd Ox and I only found out about it when looking for other stuff on folklore, mine has mold on many surfaces, mostly under the mini trays.

newbreedcreator yeah! That style sounds really cool. Read a little about it yesterday. Love how it incorporates attire and mannerisms of the time.
Thank you for the house rules. You have addressed the issues that have prevented me from getting this game back to the table!

I dig your houserules. I do many of those myself with regards to gold, life points and exploration after combat in a variety of games. Makes sense.
Thanks Daniel - I will try your two player houserules on Folklore, sounds good.

Standees for the win, indeed!

Watch out for the mold in the box
No mold.
Very lucky I had to toss box but it all fits in my original box anyway minus the minis

Completely emptied the box. No mold.

Great advice! Thanks. I'll look into that.

I’m not sure. I don’t think the stories are connected in any way.

Oh yeah. You can use any hero in any story.

No mold issues in mine.
The Dungeon Dive great to hear!
@@TheDungeonDive You're lucky! I also am out here in Seattle but my lid and every interior section of the crate have mold.
Man, that sucks! I guess I really did get lucky.
