  • The 2008 Porsche 911 GT2 has been my favorite 997 since I first experienced its thrilling 530hp twin turbo flat 6 on a canyon road. But in my quest to find the ultimate 911, can a bored and stroked 4.2L 997.2 GT3 making just as much HP possibly take the GT2's throne?

    Both cars are so amazing, but I’d definitely take the gt3 because of its high redline. Gotta drive the naturally aspirated cars before they are no more! Great video!

    this was a great comparison. however, i don't necessarily agree that cars with atmospheric motors are inherently better; turbo and NA cars are just different. if you intend to use it on the circuit, buy the gt3 because the atmospheric engine has more predictable throttle response which is useful for the precision required on track. with that said, the way that old-school turbo charged cars come on boost is exhilarating and fun in its own way. moreover, you get a mix of interesting sounds from induction to the turbos spooling to the wastegastes. i think that's pretty cool to be honest. i have a 996 gt3 and really want a 997 gt2 one day.

    Heavy is the burden to compare these amazing cars 😁 Seriously though, maybe the urgency of the GT2 is the difference of torque? I didn't recall you mentioning the torque specs of the two. I performed some upgrades on my 987.2 Cayman S to get close to 981 GT4 power for less $. I didn't get there, but I've got one more weight savings mod to do for the power2weight to be better, so there is value in spending big bucks if your other option is a more expensive Porsche.

    Cool comparison and I bet that was a fun day for you! I first got addicted to boost with an Audi (B5 S4) many years ago but then I moved to a 997.1 Turbo with some mods and really became a hopeless torque freak... There is no substitute!

    997.2 Turbo S tuned to 600bhp also a solid candidate!

    The sound of the high revs in the GT3 are insane, but the kick in the ass when the turbos catapult you to the limiter is unique. Torque is all you need 🤙🏼

    I’m a bit late but this is kind of a weird comparison as these two cars hold much different niches in terms of use case and price and design philosophy. GT2/RS is designed as the most all out track monster (pure numbers) of any 911 generation it slots into and that’s achieved by building on the base of a turbo/s. The GT3/RS however is typically designed as a different type of track tool, a NA scalpel that Revs to the moon and back. If a gt3 and a gt2 had the exact same power and tq numbers they would still have entirely different driving experiences due to rev ranges, forced induction etc. these are cars where you buy one or the other or even both because they have entirely different experiences but honestly for the price of a 997 gt2 these days you’re better off buying a 997 GT3 and a 991.1 turbo/s and modifying the 991.1

    All those mods will push the 97.2 GT3 into a 991.1 or 992.2 GT3 price range if not more. As a reference, Deman Racing charges $23-25K for their 3.8 to 4.2L engine work. I love Porsches (had a 991.2 CS and a 981 GT4) but dollar for dollar a C7 ZR1 (I had a ‘16 C7 Z06/07) for the same money will eat both these cars up on track. And a 3ZR optioned C7 will have a much more modern interior and base options. And you can work on it at home. No it’s not a Porsche, but if you love cars for their engineering and performance, than a Corvette is hard to beat. Ask Porsches GTLM teams about Corvettes.

    • @ogpunkbuster

      from my amauter driving experience porsche in general are way easier to drive harder than corvettes, but i understand what your saying in terms of performance.

    • @apexclip3458
      @apexclip3458 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ogpunkbuster That maybe true. But a 997 is VERY tail happy under hard braking and is a handful at the limit. That’s my experience as well as pro race car driver Randy Pobst. Hence the rear wheel steer and numerous stability control sensors and computers in a 991.1 and subsequent Turbo’s and GT3s. That’s why an RSR is actually mid engined.

    • @ogpunkbuster
      @ogpunkbuster 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@apexclip3458 makes sense, based on my experience in the 991.2 gt3 rear wheel steering helps a lot with grip over the older gens.

    You can substitute the ultimate 911 with the ultimate driving machine. J/k…if you’re looking for the ultimate 911, then you’ll need to go for the RS versions of their GT cars. The standard GT are not edgy enough to be thrilling.
