    Active 73 year-old female here. Was an avid walker most of my life until knee issues sprang up 7 years ago. I now believe my issue was my hip more than my knee. Your videos really clarify things for me. I believe I have muscle,strain in my hip but will further follow,your videos to self test for hi arthritis. Thank you for this!

      Hi Sharyndj,
      It’s great to hear that our videos have helped clarify things for you. It sounds like you’ve been through quite a journey with your knee and hip issues. It’s good that you’re focusing on understanding your condition better. Self-testing and following along with our videos can be a great way to gain insights and manage your symptoms.
      We have a couple of playlist you might find helpful. You can access them here:

      Start with one or two exercises, beginning with the smallest range of motion and the lowest intensity. As you feel stronger, you can gradually increase both the range of motion and intensity. It’s best to do these exercises every day throughout the day. Aim to tire out the muscle without losing form or control. Consistency is key. Always avoid working through pain; soreness and mild discomfort are normal, but pain is not.
      We hope you found this information helpful. We'd love to hear how you are doing as you progress. 🙌 Please take care!

    Thank you for all your videos. I'm 34 years old with PCOS, L5-S1 disc herniation and about an inch height difference between my right & left side (right side shorter).
    After the disc herniation (which I got within the last 6 years) is when I really started to be bothered by the height difference manifesting in pain in my hip and sometimes thighs/legs. The PCOS also makes it harder for me to lose the excess weight which is also hard on my joints.
    I recently developed a persistent (been over a month now) muscle strain to my right (shorter) side during sleep. I think it's because the pillow I used between my legs was too big and too firm. The pain is worse when I stand and try to walk after sitting or lying down for a while, but gets better the more I move thereafter. But that initial pain is really sharp and in my front groin area. I did an MRI which showed early degenerative changes to my right hip joint and started feeling so defeated and overwhelmed.
    I found your videos last night and I'm really thankful & hopeful that I've now got tools to help me become pain free. I've already tested your tip for improving my walk and it definitely helped.
    Again - thank you so much!

    Very informative. I am a 70 year old male with scoliosis. Although my back has always been an issue,I’ve had pain and spasms in my front hip and thigh. I notice this more after activities such as working out. After golf yesterday I limped to my truck and had to lift my right leg to get into the truck. I’ve been doing the McGill big 3 every day. It doesn’t seem to help that much. I’ll try your exercises and hope that will help. Thanks for your videos and your work.

    Love this channel - and the clear explanations about how things like hip arthritis and knee arthritis can be avoided or recovered from. I was just at the PT office and another person was wondering how she and her friends had all ended up with knee replacements and waht they could have done to wear out their knees. I had no idea myself, and then started watching this channel and days later got some answers!

    A decade or more ago I fell hard on my hip. When the pain didn't go away as fast as I felt it should have, I though maybe a bruised bone. When it stayed even longer, I mentioned it to my dr. He said there was calcification and it would eventually become arthritis. Fast forward to a few weeks ago... the pain, which had only been kind of behind my hip, sttated to get a little worse, but also involved my groin (with the wrong movements) and was much sharper and more painful than the outside pain. No pain in the front of the leg. So would this change any of the exercises you recommend?

    Thank you for this video, I have had hip flexor pain for a few months first I thought it was tight and did a lot of stretching but didn't help so then I thought it was weak and did a whole lot of strengthening exercises but still had to pick my leg up to put it in the car, the pain is mostly in the inner thigh muscle but sometimes down my leg and my glutes like sciatica pain, got an x-ray and found arthritis but I don't think that is what is causing the pain. When it first started it was just in my inner thigh area but I didn't listen to my body till the pain got worse and kept working out, I ended up getting a cortisone injection 2 wks ago bo
    It still have pain, it was good to listen to what you said, I will try those things but I will follow up with my Doctor see what she thinks. I just want to start doing cardio again. Resting my leg makes me feel so lazy!

No supplement can get people better movement and strength. But supplements can help set up an optimal healing environment.

After sitting or laying down for 5 min & getting up to walk there is this herendous stiffness right there in the front of right thigh or groin area. It limits my steps & I can only do a third(1/3) of the walking or movement that I used to do, & I’ve always been very active . You explaining that , gave me hope & I want to fix this so badly . I simply don’t know which of the two you described , is my issue hip arthritis or muscle strain or both . I need your help of what to do. I’m going tomorrow y to I buy the omega-3 that you mentioned . I feel like there’s no lubrication(subovial fluid) in my hip socket etc. it does pop akit without pain , but simply trying to walk hurts. I can’t unless forced , take a high step. That’s the pain right there.

    I hate exercise. Never got to those bridges I was supposed to do. Now I bought two rebounders. I want to just do them for exercise. But in two days I feel much more pain in my right hip. And also right toes & ball have been getting some what numb. Thought it was sciatica. Can I rebound on my rebounders & get better. Or should I stop & only do bridges for awhile

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Carnivore Gal, sorry to hear about your sciatica :-)
      Using a rebounder might be a little much for you right now...especially if you've got numbness and tingling. Numbness and tingling is a sign your nerves are very flared up and being compressed somewhere in your body. Could be the spine, could be the hip...or somewhere else. Bouncing is likely to aggravate it.
      You likely need exercises focused more on stability - like bridges.

    QUESTION, Dear Doctor.
    Can ANY of the 5 nerves exiting the Sacrum and the main Sciatic Nerve from the Lumbar vertebrae Contribute to any kind of HIP PAIN OR EVEN INVOLVEMENT that could contribute to Hip pain?❤️

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Shelia, Yes, the nerves exiting the sacrum and the main sciatic nerve from the lumbar vertebrae can indeed contribute to hip pain or be involved in conditions that cause hip pain. These nerves play an important role in sending signals from the hip area to the brain, so when they are irritated or compressed, it can lead to discomfort and pain in the hip region.
      Conditions such as sciatica, which involves irritation of the sciatic nerve, can cause hip pain along with leg pain. Additionally, issues with the sacral nerves, such as sacroiliac joint dysfunction, can refer pain to the hip as well.

      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey katgirlblue! Sorry you're more confused now :-(
      It is possible to have both hip arthritis and a muscle strain. It's also possible that your hip might just be really stuck, but you don't have arthritis yet. Your best bet is to start strengthening your glutes because it will help both knee arthritis and a hip strain. Here's a video with the right exercises to start:

      @@epmanualphysicaltherapy Thank you for responding but I'm way ahead of you - I've been doing that video for a while now! Unfortunately I can't do all of them because some cause terrible pain in my affected hip or knee, and it's very frustrating because I'm used to working out, but now I'm so limited because of the pain. The X Ray showed just a tiny beginning of arthritis, hardly anything at all, so I'm waiting for the MRI. It's a long wait for an Open MRI. I'm also doing the Calf exercises in that video, but I'm not really progressing. Should they be every day or every other day?

I rub pain killer gel on that area and it helped and I even had but pain but I guess that was from the walking really fast. I wish I had a chiropractor to give me some adjustments. It appears to be improving but I feel both your senerios,the pain is on my side and inside my leg, not the front, but it hurts my first few steps. Going to watch your glute videos. My pain by the way was sore to the touch also, but that is improving. Really hurts to sleep on any side , only likes the back position which I dislike, any wisdom?

      Hey Jessica! Sorry to hear about your left hip :-(
      It is definitely possible to have both a hip strain and hip arthritis at the same time. It can be painful to lie on the side for sure with either hip arthritis or a strain. For sleeping, you've got to do your best to get comfortable, but work on those exercises during the day. The joint and muscles are inflammed/irritated and the main thing that will help with sleep is to do the right exercises to take pressure off the joint and muscles to allow the inflammation/irritation to go down. Then sleep should get much better!

    Hi I also am somewhat confused. But my symptoms are also quite specific. If I walk for an hour or longer then I can no longer lift my leg, even just from the road to the curb. If I rest up for an hour or longer I can then go up stairs fairly easily although I still feel a bit sore on the hip front and inside. Does this sound like arthritis developing or strain?

      I seem to have the same thing recently developed. And I'm not quite sure either

    This past week I’ve definitely had a strained muscles in left lower back, that turned into extreme pain five days later shooting pain down my leg where I had to get steroids muscle relaxers, helping a lot but I still cannot stand straight because of the pain in my hip joint. X-ray showed I have a little arthritis probably from an injury falling on that hip in 2009. By doing the exercises on your video with the supplements, water the butt exercises and another one even core exercises. Do you think I would eventually get that strong enough to be able to do other exercises like rebounding as I just bought a exercise trampoline but I haven’t been able to use it yet?

      Hey Brenda, we are so sorry to hear about your hip arthritis pain :-( You can eventually get strong enough to get back to your regular activities, but focusing on fixing this problem with exercises is first on queue. Here is a playlist with several exercises that could help you begin strenghtening the right muscles:

    For many years I've had an occasional outside hip cramping. Several years ago I had hip replacement surgery. I still get the hip cramps. I'm 67 years old and now retired.

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey David, sounds like you've got a muscle imbalance!!! It's what probably set you up for the hip problem that led to the replacement...and if it's still there (because cramping persists) then you've got to fix it to preserve the health of your hip replacement!
      Hip muscles cramp because they're being over-used. They get over-used with everyday activities because they compensate for other muscles that should be working more.

    I got a Charlie Horse over my good knee, onto my first groin injury on other side, and then frozen hip, ouch! Everytime I excercise my Charlie Horse, albeit always diminishing/now hard 2 small lumps (divided itself) was put me in pasture since March, hip much better but geez!

    • @joseenoel8093
      @joseenoel8093 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did it carrying 2 ate teen water bottles in, hubby with frozen shoulders and walking on crappy shoveled driveway, normally it would not have
      been such a strain, thanks again!

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh no!!! That's not good Josee!! A charlie horse means you've got either a muscle problem or a nerve problem. The most common is a muscle problem. Especially since you've got the 2 lumps. That usually means your quads on the front of your thigh are likely over dominant.
      Sorry to hear about your hubby's frozen shoulder.
