Why am I at 2 a.m. watching a video of an engineer reacting to a railway in a shooter game about World War I that was released ten years ago, and on top of that, I am enjoying it?
Especially when you watch them building the railway line through your binoculars and see the guy actually hammering in the pins. So many little details in the game that can be easily missed.

Can't wait for this to blow up further. Seeing people talk about their real world jobs regarding otherwise innocuous details in a game is such an interesting concept.
Another game that might be worth checking for stuff like this is METRO:Exodus, the Aurora(the train) is very important there after all. And I recall many railway focused locales like depots, junctions etc. EDIT Oh dang I just noticed someone else recommend it under Fallout 4, oh well.

I watched this video while on the shinkansen to Tokyo. More BF1 content is always better! You should definitely check out the railway system in Red Dead Redemption 2, it's got some cool depth to it.

The only thing I wanted to get into but was too big of a subject was the civil engineering of all the different bridges, there’s some good stuff there I might do a different video on. Thanks.

You should totally consider giving a look at Red Dead Redemption 2s railways, the developers put lots of detail and consideration into their game so it would be cool to see it reflected and analyzed by someone like you. Also the game itself is spectacular on its own

You should check out the game Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic. It has a lot of train options with semaphore signaling. It's very fun and challenging setting up rail lines for logistics and distribution.
As a railway volunteer, I approve. It'd also be interesting to see you tackle Team Fortress 2. Specifically the maps Banana Bay, Rotunda, Pier, and Frontier.

9:45 thats the work of the spline system when they model it. basically you make a small section of a rail in 3d and then stick that model to a spline system and you can just draw a line where you want the rails

Foxhole, a massive multiplayer online war game. Everything gun, bullet, or tank is built by players. You can transport these supplies by trains I would love to see you check this out. However it is in an alternate timeline, pc only, and in a top down pov only. They do take inspiration from irl things as the game is set in a ww1-ww2 era.
Always amazes me how realistic modern games can look in terms of polycount and texture. And then technical details like these rails and switches not being right just breake the immersion, you just cannot unsee it. But I guess they didnt have a model railer on the dev team and are happy if the game runs at all :) One game that comes to mind when thinking " old britisch rail in gaming" is AC Syndicate.
Can you react to Metro Exodus? Trains and railroads are basically its whole thing. Its also post-apocalyptic, so I think it'd be interesting to see how you think things would work after 20 years of neglect.

I’ll admit I’ve spent more than my fair share of time looking at railways in games and just ranting over the graphic design and everything that’s wrong from a railway worker perspective of my own, including in games with proximity voice chat, so sometimes my team just hears the distant ramblings of a lunatic while their getting actively blown up.
The Metro Exodus game might be another you might want to look at. The game uses an old Soviet steam engine as a focal point when progressing through the story. It’s a good game as well.
are the water towers realistic in this game? i feel like you would want the water towers pipes to be closer to the top of the train to be more accurate on delivering water to the necessary area.
@@Tr_Fast This question caught me thinking, in real-world applications, water towers are designed to ensure efficient water delivery, as pressure is essential to distribution it would be ideal to have higher water towers, the higher the tower, higher the pressure and thus loss of head would be minimized. But higher structures require more maintenance and can be affected by the elements, specially winds. About the position of the towers, you are pretty right, ideally the train's tubulations would be plugged in a flexible pipe from as close to the bottom of the tower as possible, or a pipe positioned a top of the train.
The way you are understanding, respectful and appreacitive while pointing out such small details is something I long for in these types of Videos. However, somethings that did strike my mind, and I list these with no ill will: 1. You didn't mention the Tsar dlc, wich has railroad. Is it due to you not having it or it being too similar to the ones you reviewed? 2. The coaches on Ballroom Blitz are really comfy. Just wanted to get that out there. 3. The reason that Fallout 4 could and BF1 couldn't is because of them, obviously, being made my different people, but also, Fallout 4 is a game where the player has reason to look at the ground enough to spot these mistakes, while in BF1 you have no real reason to look down. 4. @@ConNuclear hi! I looked at loads of maps and I found that there’s a lot of repeated models and components so they were similar. I did want to revisit and do a separate video on all the different railway bridges in BF1 though. Yes games like fallout and other games have more reason to make the infrastructure realistic. Especially in games where it forms part of the missions or quests. I appreciate this and love BF1 regardless. Yeah I’m a better pilot than motorbike rider 😂. I only came from spawn on it but think I made a jump near the big arch. And those bikes are made of cardboard and tin foil and filled with helium. Haha.
I have 900+ hours in BF1 now and I love all the little details. One big thing I wish for is the armoured train in game to be able to cap more objectives! Have you been on the bluebell railway in E. Grinstead?
I think I'd not be doing my job properly if I didn't politely ask for a Railway review of a game that's secretly all about railways. Half-Life, Half-life 2, Ep1, Ep2 and HL:Alyx. Plus HL1 Opposing force and Blue shift. Literally every game has a ton of train content.
