By the way, the instructions that come with the pan and online both say to use soap. I knew it was wrong, but that's definitely that should be updated!

A smal amount of soap is ok and helps remove smells and gunk. If it doesn’t have lye in it it’s not harmful at all really.

That's absolutely right. I watched videos from the high-end cast iron companies and they recommend it.

Just throw about 2lbs pounds of bacon in the pan and cook it, it's done! I am a pro I am older than you and cooked in cast iron all my life. The rest this woman is telling you , listen!!. she is right. Lard. work great. too. We started early..bear grease is amazing..never stick eggs.never ever use any dish soap, steal wool and elbow grease and re -grease and you should be good to go in a flash.

I use a brush, didn't hear recommendation for brush. I read nothing but bad reviews from Amazon. Great price at $20 for an 11 inch and yet I think I'll pass after so many said terrible things about them.
