    Thank you for making this video. I'm one of those Mac platform laggards who just stopped managing photos after support for Aperture finally ended. Your walk through of the import process was thorough and concise. I think I'm finally ready to return to managing my images, thanks to you.

    This is very well done. It’s precise, easy to follow, and easy to implement. Thanks for the info.

    Informative video. I liked how you not only explained what settings you use but what the other options are. A lot of videos when it comes to previews say "just leave it at standard" but don't explain what the choices are.

      Glad you liked it! My goal is to help others understand the tools and make your own choices to fit your needs... good to know I'm on the right track. 🙂
      Any other topics you'd like to see covered?

    Thank you, Michael. Really enjoyed your presentation! I am in the process of deciding whether to stay with my long-time editing system (Zoner Studio X) or making a change to Lightroom Classic. The Photography 20GB package that I am considering is a bit more expensive than Zoner Studio. I am currently on a 7 day trial of the Adobe package. Your presentation was extremely helpful! Looking forward to more of your presentations.

      Glad you found it helpful! I'm not familiar with Zoner Studio but, to me, the Photography plan with Adobe is a great value considering you get all versions of Lightroom, full Photoshop, and Adobe Bridge, and all updates over time. A lot of people complain about the subscription model but I don't really have a problem with it given the cost of those programs when they were sold separately.

      @@MichaelRungPhotography I don't know alot about Photoshop just yet, but learning as much as I can in 7 days. I really don't have a problem with the subscription model.
      Thank you again!

      I don't use Photoshop all that much but it can obviously be an extremely powerful tool. Just depends on what you're looking to do with your photos. 🙂

      @@MichaelRungPhotography Hello Michael. I am primarily into landscape and travel photography. At this point, I only know that I want to improve my editing skills. I recently retired and have much more time to devote to my photography hobby. I'm at a point where I am exploring and learning all I can about photography overall. I know I still have a lot to learn and become more creative with composition.

    Hi Michael, thank you for this helpful video. What will you do when you run out of room on your SSD ? Will you "replace" the SSD with a larger one, or add one - if the latter, how will you have to adjust catalog, etc?

    • @MichaelRungPhotography
      @MichaelRungPhotography  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Glad you found it helpful! This video is a bit long in the tooth at this point. I added a second SSD a while ago now. Nothing to do, really: Lightroom recognizes your connected drives, so when I import I just select it as the destination.

    Good directions, Michael. I like that you pointed out the renaming of files during import. I also use that, but I don't separate them into folders. I do extensive use of keywords to help me search for photos later on. I can't decide whether to put them into separate folders since at times a photo would fall into different categories. So, I create smart collections to address that. One thing I do differently during import is that I do apply a preset but only for automatic lens correction during import. I have mine set to remove chromatic aberrations and also enable lens profile corrections. That saves me some time later on and all photos will have the correct lens profile I used during shooting. Do you see any negative impact to doing that? Thanks for putting these videos together. They are very helpful, especially for people not familiar with detailed LR features.

    • @MichaelRungPhotography
      @MichaelRungPhotography  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Egidio, thanks for commenting! I don't see any negative impact to applying lens corrections during import, other than it possibly taking a bit longer to process. I don't apply the lens profile corrections universally as, sometimes, I prefer the image without that correction. Fair point on chromatic aberration, though! 🙂
      I used to get more specific on my folder structure but these days it's strictly Year > Location (or Year > Event, or whatever). Since 99% of my work is landscape oriented, the Year > Location approach works well. Even if I were to visit a spot more than once a year, I'd still want it all together... but the beauty, of course, is once you understand the tools you can use them as best suited for you!

      Let me know if there are any other topics you'd like to see me cover, too, Lightroom related or not!

    •  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MichaelRungPhotography Thanks for your replies, Michael. I presently rename my photos using the year/month/day the shots were made. That works for me along with the smart collections. I mostly do landscape (national parks, state parks, etc.) photos, and with smart collections I can have a collection named Big Bend and also another with cacti, which may include Big Bend shots with cacti. The key is what you said: find the workflow that is best suited. As for other topics, I'll be looking forward to when you cover more advanced topics, such as tone curve, etc. I've been a long-time LR user (since version 3, when we used to buy the CDs), but no matter how advanced one thinks he/she is, there is always something one has overlooked. Your videos are proving that for me. :) Keep up the great work!

      Yep, plenty more to come. Just have to find the time to keep cranking out new tutorials! I had hope to push for a weekly release schedule but since this isn't my full time job I may have to fall back to every other week. :(

    How will you import Images already adjusted and with a. Xmp sidecar file so you will keep the work already done? (adjustment, etc...) thanks!

    • @MichaelRungPhotography
      @MichaelRungPhotography  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Paco, I assume these are images that have been edited in another catalog and you now need to bring them in with the XMP data to a different catalog. This isn’t something I’ve done, but my understanding is that as long as the XMP files are in the same folder as your image files, Lightroom Classic should automatically recognize them upon import.
      If the images are already in your catalog, you can also select all applicable images in Library, then select Metadata > Read Metadata From Files in the menu. This also requires the XMPs to be in the same folder as your image files.

    • @pacovillalta4910
      @pacovillalta4910 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MichaelRungPhotographyThank you very much for your replay. I'll try if needed. So far, I vae found that importing files already worked on, with xmp in the same folder, I just have to select "none" editing profile in the import menu. That way it will read the xmp and apply.
      Thank you again

      That *IS* trimmed up from what it was a couple weeks ago. 😂 I had a pact with a co-worker about not shaving until we're back in the office. He finally cracked a couple weeks ago, and I'm probably going to keep trimming mine back since there's not ETA for ending work from home.
