The sweet spot on the detector coil is at the tip. When you have it in pinpoint mode and you go back and forth, as soon as you come off the target, that's where the item is. Also, a solid 12 is a nickel, 11-12 is beavertail, 13-16 is pull tab, 21-25 is copper penny, 17-18 is bottle cap or can be junk jewelry. Low tones like 5-10 can be gold but 8-10 can also be foil or can slaw.

On the beach I would use it on jewelry mode and yeah I would dig up the low numbers for sure because sometimes its gold 14 and lower
7 to 11 is kind of a sweet spot, but gold can be on either side those numbers depending on what metal its alloyed with
