    John is the voice lol no seriously, that’s what he gets called down here in Australia. He’s a living legend and this song is an unofficial anthem. He’s still going now at the age of 72 sounds “almost” as good as he did 40 years ago . You got him down, John is a top bloke all round. Check out his live stuff too 👍🏻😊

    John is easily one of the greatest male vocalists in the world, and yet he comes across as a very humble person. You need to hear more of his stuff. Australia has been loving his voice for years now…

    Seeing/hearing this live is something else. He has a supremely powerful delivery. The version on TH-cam he does of The Beatles’ song Help live with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra is very cool.

      Yes John is best listened to live. It's probably better than the official videos. His vocalabilityis insane &I'm only now comingto appreciate this even thoughI've always loved his songs. He's such a larrikin & has such an amazing rapport with his audiences its just so awesome to see his old concerts.

    You are right about John. Down-to-earth, superbly talented without an inflated opinion of himself and he just LOVES to sing - you hear it. Watch some of his live concerts and the way he interacts, his genuine respect for the musicians he performs with. He's our John here in Australia. Hope the world gets to hear his wonderful voice - no autotune for him.

    Johnny's in his 70's now, and can still belt them out just as good as ever! Long career, not widely known here in the U.S.A. Took over as lead singer for Little River Band for a short while and KILLED IT! His live performances are vocally as good as his studio stuff. This song has become, over time, Australia's unofficial National Anthem. Rewarding rabbit hole, if you go down it

  • @whiteapple2313
    @whiteapple2313 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    John Farnham's live performances from 1986 to 1994 were amazing, no auto tune, he just belted them out. His band were also one of the best. Great singer, gave it his all whether it was 200 or 25,000.

  • @maryhanrahan

    His voice is legendary to Australians - you cannot miss with any of his songs - I personally love 'Burn for you' and 'Angels' - live is usually the best because his passion makes it with an audience

    I was lucky enough to see him when he temporarily was the lead singer for The Little River Band, in a small club in South Amboy. Amazing Aussie singer. He did an entire album with them called The Net. He’s amazing and so are they, with both lead singers. Love the bass player singing Night Owl while chewing gum.
    It’s on TH-cam. So cool to arrive and see them tossing around a football.
    Excellent choice!

    Live pub/hotel music was the greatest building tool for Australian music. Nowadays there’s no “trying out” or “ testing” the audience reaction. There was also the trial by fire of appearing raw and live on TV.
    The soul edge of a band and musician comes from that unique connection to people. John Farnham comes alive at concerts.
    Composing in Garage Band then trying it on the soulless sound of Internet will never fill the gap. So many young people can’t explain why they feel something is missing. Your Dad is absolutely 💯
    But if you ever rocked into a pub performance of COLD Chisel, Farnsey or AC/DC - you experienced heart and soul happiness!

    You’re right about the shift in music nowadays. I find it difficult to wade through the new bands to find something truly special. It all sounds the same as so much stuff from previous decades, which isn’t the fault of the new artists, but it is true nonetheless.
    One thing that often stands out to me with a lot of (by no means all of) songs from the 70s and 80s is the actual effort that went into constructing a song. A great example is Magic Man by Heart. If it was written today it’d be verses and choruses, and not much else. Maybe a solo, maybe a middle-8. But the original has so much going on, it is by no means a straightforward arrangement.
    The artistry and talent of people like David Bowie, Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel, and bands like Rush, and Pink Floyd, and Fleetwood Mac, and Queen, The Who. The Beatles. The power of bands like Midnight Oil, The Police, Deep Purple, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden. The performances of bands like Kiss, U2, Bowie, Kate Bush, The Rolling Stones. It’s truly a difficult task to really name modern artists who can hold their own against those names, let alone exceed their work.

    • @brunett93
      @brunett93 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Very true. I'm so sad I can't experience concerts by artists like those now. I know some of them are still touring etc but it obviously isn't the same as having been there in the 70s and 80s, and some legends are no longer alive. I was born in the 90s so I missed out.

  • @richardvandeursen2395

    Midnight Oil a Australian band in the 80's was a social commentary band but with good/great music. Lead singer Peter Garrett became a member of parliament..

      Yeah they definitely hit their straps in the mid to late 80s... so much so that most people have no idea they actually formed in 1972... it took a while for their style to catch on... even in Australia.

    John was born in England in 1949 and came to Australia in 1959 as a 10 year old. By 1967 he was on Australian TV singing SADIE THE CLEANING LADY (it's on youtube). He was a good friend of Olivia Newton John (she being born in England too in 1948 and came out as a 3 year old I think from memory). Both ended up in Melbourne, Victoria. They have stayed buddies ever since. Check out Olivia and John at the opening ceremony of the Sydney Olympics singing DARE TO DREAM. BTW John was the King of Pop.

    What you're hearing is the difference between real and fake. Artists back then actually had talent. They didn't need auto-tune, pitch shift or click beats to make them sound better than they were. Also they seem like nice people because this was a time before social media and the pathological narcissism it creates

    I think you’re wise to stay away from politics too much in the channel, but artists often use their work to show what is wrong with society and/or government, and Rock Music has been a powerful platform for those messages.
    If I was to choose one song that I think is not to politically divisive but a great example of what music can do, I’d recommend you listen/watch the song Sun City by Artist United Against Apartheid.
    It was a collaboration of a large number of high profile performers like Springsteen and Bono (just to name a couple) who were protesting against Sun City in South Africa where they had a resort for the white people and they’d try (and succeed) to pay big money to draw in artists to play for them in the midst of the wrong of the Apartheid era.
    It was put together by the guitarist in Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, and he features heavily in it.
    It’s a banger of a song, with a great message
