Bringing a 1989 Volvo 740 Back to Life - Will it Run?

  • Getting Rosalie the Volvo 740 to a point where we can turn the key and see if she'll run. I finish off installing the 240 block and 940 cylinder head, timing belt and encounter issues with the exhaust manifold not fitting and no oil pressure light on the dash...

    Very nice to hear it run! Never imagined that parts of a car I bought for 800 euros, got another life in Germany. I literally rescued that car from a field in the west of the netherlands. Roll on old blue ;)

    You can absolutely paint that engine while it’s in the bay. I did the same on my most recent video. Especially with the exhaust and intake out of the way and tape off appropriately. It’ll come out jice

    Great Job. Lovely to hear She is alive again. I have a 1996 Volvo 940 LPT Turbo Auto estate (B230FK) that I have owned for 5 years now. Paid £250 for it with 8 months UK MOT. No major issues. Runs well and has 207,000 miles, so run in. My works Van. Far from mint but still put's a smile on my face, as has character. May one day fit a MBC. Look forward to seeing Rosalie out driving.

      That's really great, such a bonus when you can get so much car for so little money. I had a '95 SE LPT in the UK, really nice. Never did get chance to fit an MBC but it's definitely worth it!

    Great job. Easiest way to paint a block once installed, is to buy some engine enamel and use a rag suitably formed to paint with. Paint can be wiped on not just brushed on. . Don’t forget to wear gloves . Lol. It is not like the nooks and crannies are visible to critic comment, once auxiliaries are installed,

    Excellent to see it fired up! Once you have it all wrapped up it'll be interesting to see if the severe overheating did anything to the catalytic converter. It would be fascinating to know just how hot the old engine got.

    • @Involvod
      @Involvod  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's a very good point, will have to keep an eye on that!!

    • @mathuetax
      @mathuetax 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Involvod It's probably unlikely since Volvo used decent-sized honeycomb-type cats but the prior engine seems to have REALLLLLLLLY gotten hot. Seemingly the exhaust manifold got so hot to possibly be glowing for it be to warped that much.
      So yeah, the exhaust temperatures were probably even beyond what Volvo had torture tested the B21/B23/B230 to so the post-treatment function of the cat could have been affected.

    Прекрасная работа, мне на 530 92 года на днях сняли 0.21мм, завтра повезу ставить на мотор. Следж, а ты посмотрел какой вал тебе достался в голове 97года? После 95го выпуск атмосферных версий прекратили(230F c 530 с М валом 117 сил слабым в 93году снят с производства, 230FB(FD G D) c 531 самыми продутыми каналами и великолепным вх3 валом на 135-140 сил в 95м сняли с конвеера. Остались турбо версии 230FK GK FT с 530 головами на Т валу, а установив с них на обычную атмосферную голову у тебя снизится динамика, так как турбины продували 530ю и Т вал был нормален, но для атмосферного мотора, своими силами втягивающего и выталкивающего поршнями воздух этого будет недостаточно. Для атмосферных версий в будущем подыскивай 531 гбц или же вх3 вал с нее, он и в турбо залетает на ура, верха хорошие мотор крутят.

      @@Involvod Самый слабый вал это М(b230F), самый отличный это V, хорошие низы и отличные верха (стоял в мехвпрысковых версиях 230Е, стоковый каджет гораздо больше мощности выдает чем инжектор, в том числе из за большего ресивера впускного, 1 литр против 0.5 воздуха у инжектора), но его просто так не поставить без разрезной шестерни, потмоу что перекрытия отличаются. Еще имеется тот самый легендарный vx3 вал с 531 голов b230FB, у него верха отличные, но низа похуже чем V, самый оптимальный вариант для атмосферника, на турбо тоже на раскрутку подходит. Также есть нечасто встречаемый А вал, стоял помоему на карбюраторных версиях b230К и b230A, у него низа хорошие, но он не крутится особо, для турбо не подойдет, на атмосфере хорош. И напоследок тот самый Т вал с турбовых моторов ранней и поздней генерации, средний вал, не знаю ничего выдающегося, просто затычка видимо чтоб он был, турбина делает основную работу.
      У тебя он как раз и стоит сейчас, я поэтому и написал много много букв как Лев Толстой в "Войне и Мире" чтоб объяснить тебе эти нюансы и в последующей эксплуатации расписной белоснежки с Т валом на атмосферном моторе узнать как себя он ведет на атмо, 99% если никто в ту голову 97 года не лазил менять что то там стоит Т вал потому что в 97 атмо версий уже не делали.

    Sadly soon all combustion cars and trucks including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-(
    In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
    on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Car washs will be forbidden too because they are climate killers, now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!! (BABVVEN & TEBBVEN & BEFVO laws)!!!
