‘Treasures from the wreck of the unbelievable’ is one of the most brilliant art happenings of the XX and XXI century. Not just the extraordinary beauty of some of those pieces but the entire story that surrounds and supports those pieces. I feel so sorry for all of those people who cannot see how genius the entire project was. It must be awful not having the capacity to imagine, or a sense of humour or the intelligence to let yourself be fooled for a moment by a wonderful story.
It's extraordinary! I've watched the Netflix documentary several times, the first time believing, and the again to try to understand the complexity of this amazing presentation. ❤️
I believed this was all real till i got to the end of the "documentary" and seen mickey mouse statue standing next to a guy in a suit. Never been so betrayed
.......through most of the movie I was absolutely enthralled. I kept thinking "how have I not heard about these discoveries?" The Mickey Mouse at the end caught me as perhaps being just a funny sculpture to showcase with these amazing treasures that were found. I also thought it was very odd that the statues were being showcased with the coral and barnacles still on them (the coral would obviously die, so I found it very strange that they would go through so much trouble to recreate the coral for the display). I began looking into this shipwreck, only to find that this was all a fake......fuck. I do applaud the acting...most of it did NOT seem scripted...only at a few moments did I think "this might be scripted..." Anyway...My wife and I were trolled hard. Bastard.....
If you cannot realise how incredibly brilliant the idea is and you do not allow yourself to be amazed by the sheer beauty of the pieces and you beat yourself up for ‘having believed’ you really have a problem. It’s called suspension of disbelief. Just enjoy the extraordinary beauty of the story and the artworks. Allow yourself the wonder of believing.
People feel betrayed when they watch it on Netflix but try to remember Damien hirst is an artist first and foremost and this is an art show.he provided and amazing story to go with his art and he hd a lot of us believing.i love it all.well done
Nothing to be jealous of. I'm pissed. I sat down and watched a man $65 million dollar tribute to his own vanity for 90 minutes. Only to find out at the end that it's all fake. It's like buying a ps4, driving all the way home, and as soon as you get home and open it, it turns out to be a VCR.
Now I'm tempted to go - I've been thinking backwards and forward for the last few weeks. Can you see this in one day? As I'd need to fly if I'm seeing this!
Lol, I just now realized that Chief Amotan's depiction was actually Damien, only by seeing them side by side :)) I love how he smirks and says "Handsome devil" Subtle
I loved so much watching this on Netflix and in the end could not believe what I was seing. But what a ride. It still was woth it so much I watch it again but with a different mind set of course!
It's all pure bullshit and garbage. Netflix should be embarrassed showing a fake staged discovery of a Mickey mouse statue full of artificial coral. Hirst is a narcissisti . Calling a tripiphobia trigger art. If you wanna see a real shipwreck discovery watch documentaries on the Atocha. A spaniard ship loaded with tons of silver,Gold, Pearl's, ,emeralds. Gold Inca artifacts. The Fisher family discovered The mother load of shipwreck treasure off Florida keys. Estimated value in the 80s 400 million. Probably in the billions today.
I wowed the whole movie just got a few moment of why they didn’t mention to search the wreck of the boat itself. After the movie I searched where I can visit the exhibition and found out it is a fake story! What a fun genius!
Watching the mockumentary definitely had me fooled completely, which was great because it was a fabulous journey for me. That I've seen an exhibition at the Palazzo Grassi years ago that was complete shit and to me, an insult to that beautiful palazzo, this was amazing. I only learned it was fake when I googled the schedule for the "treasures" exhibition and saw it was all staged. But truly, a genius work of art he spent a lot of money on to get people THINKING. It is all very engaging, and that is the purpose of art.
For that he should of rated it Fiction. This was all bullshit. Gold doesn't look the way it did, especially 2 centuries in the ocean. A slave that was freed couldn't come up with the money to buy all that junk let alone a ship as big as they claimed it to be. Even if there was a power Ball lottery back then, Howard Carter must of rolled in his grave , watching this once upon a time fraudulent garbage . PS I forgive Mikey mouse, it's not his fault. He's innocent in all this.
my friend went to college for marine archeology, I suggested this "documentary" while watching it to give him hope... lol.. I definitely feel really let down
Don't feel so down lol. I honestly thought it was real even after seeing the buried Mickey. I thought that he was just showing footage of other under sea sculptures and that Mickey sculpture was somehow lost at sea on a production boat in the mid 20th century or something. Boy I feel dumb.
Man I went around telling people about this awesome documentary and how it was totally real. If there’s any comeback of this I’ll just say I was kidding and accuse them of not understanding sarcasm
I just finished watching the Netflix presentation. They should've waited till April 1st. Loved it though. If I was embarrassingly rich I'd like to buy a few of these.
I was so angry when I finished the documentary (and saw Mickey). I then tried to analyze my anger, and I discovered this: I wasn't angry with the documentary for duping me, I was angry with _myself_ for being duped. After further thought, I'm glad I was tricked because the ride was exciting, and I learned to always check sources!! Haha!
The work is interesting to look at. A gorgeous selection of materials. Sadly; simply glimpsing the texture of coral makes me break out in hives. I am itching all over right now. Does anyone else experience this kind of reaction to rough textures, like tree bark and coral?
I think this was brilliant. Because I couldn't 100% tell what was real and what was not right until the end. The made in China stamp made me wonder but still was intrigued. Hate him but this was just brilliant.
I was impressed by the background work of it...how he let others create these thing...and then submerge everything for TEN years...it's just insane that it worked. If I were him I wouldn't paint the corals and stuff in colors, only with fitting metal paint, like that on the huge statue...but then they could have added everything manually, hehe. Great project nevertheless!
Not planted - just planned. It was all a fake documentary. BUT ... the artist spent 10 years making 3 versions of every sculpture and something like $65M on the movie/story. So he created an art exhibit and a backstory for it. That's a grand scale creation for an art exhibit.
About halfway thru, something was very suspicious about this. I couldn't put my finger on it. Then, when the medusa head came up I was like, that is too perfect, that is too close too the look of medusa from Clash of the Titans. I immediate had to investigate. Sure enough....
So I just finished watching the Netflix documentary and I'm unsure what to think. It took me on an emotional roller coaster ride, I was excited, shocked, intrigued and then they showed the Mickey mouse statue without any explianation and now I'm just confused.
Its a mockumentary. Part of its point is to show how easily we are willing to believe in something just because some people in a documentary makes it look convincing. The entire movie was full of hints suggesting it was fake. For example Gold cannot survive under water for 2000 years, its soft metal which also reacts to the water. The same as all the statues which had limbs but were missing heads all of the limbs would have been broken of during 2000 years of oceanic exposure.
My mind really wanted to wrap around the richness of the culture & lifestyle of that era. Like wow, genius, such brilliant minds, just to find out today, it was staged. Urgh, why Damien, why?
Lmao when I saw those praying hands I was like WTF something is off lol then I did some research and I was like yup a fucken mickey I was all excited and was about to go back to school for ❗️Archaeology❗️
Look this is a wreck from The Unbelievable simply because the last sculpture they shared was freaking Mickey Mouse come on was it true or not I'll never know for sure
I started watching this on Netflix thinking it was along the lines of a PBS doc. Quickly became suspicious when every member of his “crew” looked like they were from central casting. I didn’t get past the 7 minute mark before switching to something else. Waste of time.
Thought it was real up until I freaked out behind the Nefertiti statue looking like a black person and thinking “I KNEW IT!!!” Then thinking that looks a lot like Rihanna. Then realizing that it was just Rihanna and this whole thing was fiction. I was really sucked in like it was an actual discovery. I was almost jealous. Damn. It would of nice if this was real though.
So basically, we didn't destroy the planet, or at least it was able to regenerate and future peoples are as bad as we are at ascribing meaning to ancient "artifacts" that may or may not have been intended. Hundreds of years from now, would people not ascribe all kinds of significance to Mickey Mouse, considering how many millions of times his image has been and is still being reproduced? I find the whole thing quite delightful and the sculptures are beautiful. I'd buy a cheap replica in the gift shop. Actually, I'd probably buy several to give as souvenir gifts. Were there any Star Wars artifacts? My son would love a BB-8. He IS from "A long time ago" after all. Art people are mad lol.

Incredible I believe there is a GOD ALMIGHTY all the myths have been blown out of the water with this find was Damien Hirst destiny and the poeple with him to find that lot my bucket is to see this exacerbation wow if this was a lie I fell for it hook line and sinker I still enjoyed watching haha.....
as a treasure hunter of 40 years, what a let down. I was wondering all along how a treasure of this magnitude be discovered and I never heard of it. after waisting over an hour of my life watching this fraud. at the end it only shows the only way Hirst can get a crowd to his exibit is to disguise it as a great discovery.
The point of the mockumentary was also to see how easily it would be to fool people. There were small hints along the entire film to suggest all of it was fake. And the further in you get the more ridiculous everything gets. Its a great piece of cinematic art, and it carries a message. Something is only real if we believe it to be. In an age where fake news is everywhere its important to know just how easily we are willing to bellieve in something.
Would be cooler if Damien actually made any of this. But I guess thinking of it and paying for it and erasing the actual artists to who created these to nothing is fine. Sigh. I’d respect this more if he was straight up and recognized his “fabricators” who are the ones who have technical skill.
I have seen the full documentary on Netflix and it is amazing. I do wonder though when the Egyptians are going to demand that they get those statues of the Egyptian Pharaohs back as they will claim them is they are real. And they will endeavour to find out which Pharaohs they represent.
I must correct the 2nd last sentence. I do wonder though when the Egyptians are going to demand that they get those statues of the Egyptian Pharaohs back as they will claim them if they are real. If the Egyptians do not claim these artifacts back it will be a real challenge to the artifacts authenticity.
Hi Harlow, Yup you are right. I have done some research into this and I have also found out that they are fake. But I must say they are beautiful. Amazing that Damien craved attention so much that he did this. Sad that he stamped his mark and got so much attention in copying others talent. Shew!!!
Hi *Lamees Ahmad* You are right, they really all are quite beautiful aren't they? Damien has done this with much of his art. When we think of artists in general we think of solitary painters. I also took a little exception years ago when I learned that Damien utilizes a team of artists and then gets the credit. But in time I have come to look at him as more of an architect, much like the architect for a building, he designs them but others build them in his vision. When seen this way, in a different light with a different perspective, I can really appreciate his work. I have to be truthful, out of all of his work, this is actually my favourite. Damien is an interesting man, he and I both collect ethical taxidermy from Darin, Sinke & van Tongeren. Though his collection far exceeds my own!
I like your perspective Harlow. I have a very open mind as far as Art is concerned. I enjoy works from Rimsky Korsakov to Air Supply, Imhotep to Alexander Yusuf, Leonardo da Vinci to Pablo Picasso, Carl Akeley to James Rowland Ward. I am however a bit biased about literature and do prefer the more classical genre as I consider them true art and I cannot tolerate the butchering of language which seems to frequently occur in modern works. I must say you have described Damien's work in a way which I can savour and appreciate. Best Wishes
The 'art' of FAKE "documentary" as filmed in my tropical fish tank! An Oscar for deception and to Netflix, you should be ashamed of yourselves for marketing this as a "documentary" 😡 At the end Mickey Mouse! He gets best supporting actor. Betrayal at its best. A 'movie' at its most magnificent. Netflix, you owe me! I don't appreciate being lied to!!
i have so many questions, anyone here know anything more. i got tricked and i'm glad for it, that mickey mouse gave it away. i just wanna know if that's real coral on the statues, if they are really made of stone and gold.
much better art can be made with way less than $10 million.. in fact, better art can be made with only $1000 .. there are better metaphors in death and immortality in graffiti in the street.
I do not see the point of going that far making people belive It was a real finding. At the end of the film all the previous fun and joy just vanished leaving me a bitter sensation inside. What a waste!
At least it looks like art & not the usual pretentious crap he has produced before. My one question is ... is it his own work or did he get a team to produce it? Having watched the Netflix video it just confirmed what a con-man he is, so I'm going with the team version.
Artists have used assistants from time immemorial, there's nothing new in that. While I may not always appreciate Hirst's work, your argument is false. Even parts of the Sistene Chapel were painted by assistants.
Hirst has never had an original idea as a "artist" ever , as well as having a team of people producing the shit he churns out. He himself has shit on the talent of all the real artists who went before . The sicking thing is that in the comment section people are talking about how that they know the shit he's a churning out is completely unoriginal and fake yet Thay still heap praise and glory on to the snake oil salesman. Shame oñ you All .

So this is what Damien Hirst has been up to? 🙄
Come on! All these people believing this!!!!? How can one not see the con? Its Hirst!
Great art but to modern. The Romans did not do eyeliner.
I do not get it? It is not a real story? If so me too never been so betrayed!!! If bullshit, it is the best one though AH!
as a treasure hunter of 40 years, what a let down.
If any one can't see this all take the piss Ha ! come on please.
You know his Sharks don' t you 🤓
Would be cooler if Damien actually made any of this. But I guess thinking of it and paying for it and erasing the actual artists to who created these to nothing is fine. Sigh. I’d respect this more if he was straight up and recognized his “fabricators” who are the ones who have technical skill.
I'm so disappointed! I want my hour and 22 minutes back!!!
GEt a stinking Life....
*Lamees Ahmad* Ummm... it's all a joke, they aren't real.
Hi Harlow, Yup you are right. I have done some research into this and I have also found out that they are fake. But I must say they are beautiful. Amazing that Damien craved attention so much that he did this. Sad that he stamped his mark and got so much attention in copying others talent. Shew!!!
Hi *Lamees Ahmad*
You are right, they really all are quite beautiful aren't they?
Best Wishes
brilliant artist incredible mocka inspires the shit out of me just brilliant
The 'art' of FAKE "documentary" as filmed in my tropical fish tank! An Oscar for deception and to Netflix, you should be ashamed of yourselves for marketing this as a "documentary" 😡 At the end Mickey Mouse! He gets best supporting actor. Betrayal at its best. A 'movie' at its most magnificent. Netflix, you owe me! I don't appreciate being lied to!!
I can’t believe Netflix showed this fake documentary, I was duped!
so was I 5 months later - ffs! - go find a real wreck Hirst!
i have so many questions, anyone here know anything more.
i got tricked and i'm glad for it, that mickey mouse gave it away.
i just wanna know if that's real coral on the statues, if they are really made of stone and gold.
them swimming up with massive supposedly gold statues and lifting them up on deck with no effort sealed the deal for me....FAKE
Damien on his memer shit ahaha
f me . fake news ? nick dose and his art to should be in question
The MICKEY MOUSE TO F FUNNY
much better art can be made with way less than $10 million.. in fact, better art can be made with only $1000 .. there are better metaphors in death and immortality in graffiti in the street.
I do not see the point of going that far making people belive It was a real finding. At the end of the film all the previous fun and joy just vanished leaving me a bitter sensation inside. What a waste!
they look like badly executed film props
At least it looks like art & not the usual pretentious crap he has produced before. My one question is ... is it his own work or did he get a team to produce it? Having watched the Netflix video it just confirmed what a con-man he is, so I'm going with the team version.
Artists have used assistants from time immemorial, there's nothing new in that. While I may not always appreciate Hirst's work, your argument is false. Even parts of the Sistene Chapel were painted by assistants.
È tutto falzo ed è un clickbait
Heel gaaf
Precies ,net waar je in geloof,ik zou niet weten wat je met zoiets moet ,wat een stofvangers, moet er niet aan denken zoiets in huis te hebben 😂
I dream of Baia every night.
What a disgusting lie the whole film was. I genuinely believed it!!! Appalled anyone could actually do that. Where’s his integrity!!!! Jo Stewart
bet you're a right laugh at parties aintcha
