Thank you for a great reaction.🙌🎵🎶😎✌️The album Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star was released in 1999. The whole album is fire 🔥!! When I first heard it, it was poetry to my ears. Hi-Tek was the producer and he sampled The Fox by Don Randi. 🙌🔥🎵🎶🎵-Patricia
That Talib verse has to be one of the best in the history of hip-hop. And the chorus, man... In a 2003 interview, David Bowie said that "Blasting holes in the night 'til she bled sunshine" is one of the most beautiful lines he ever heard in a song.
Black star is so slept on. I actually bought this album because I like the way it looked and at the time I knew very little about Mos Def and Common and just a little more about Talib Kweli. Anyway the whole album is good. They have a video for Black Star - Definition it's also a good song.
Yes yes yes Black Star always!!! For me it was tribe, Jurassic 5 and black star that introduced me to hip hop. So glad they did. Talib and Mos are both bananas
Bro.....I just remembered.....I bought this album on the exact same day I bought my first Ween album "Quebec" - Teez...that album flip your brain inside out.
So I'm late with viewing this video, but I'm finally here and I LOVE your comment!! If it's takes no talent to make rap music, then why don't you make a rap song?? They most definitely can't and surely won't because it takes talent to be a rapper! Of course there are going to be ranges in talent of different rappers as with anything else. But yes, I hate when people say stuff like that, too. It's incredibly dismissive and ignorant.
Other suggestions on same level "Get By" (Talib Kweli) & Mos Def whole Black on Both Sides album. Classic. This same song was also sampled by reggae singer Chronixx in his remix of "Perfect Tree" ft Eesah, the visual is beautiful & they did a good job sampling. Worth watching.
Good album....had this on cassette first & then cd...I grew up loving East Coast Hip Hop...Beastie Boys being my #1 4forever....West Coast Hip Hop just as good but u easily ID East from West. Great tune by the way ;))

Pinnacle of boom bap. This is one the greatest hip hop tracks ever made. Period!!!
No lies detected
“For trees to grow in Brooklyn, seeds need to be planted, im asking if y’all feel me and the crowd left me stranded” ufffffff! I felt that!

When I first heard this album in middle school, I was sure it was the best music I had ever heard. It still holds up
One of the best hip-hop albums of the 90s...

No way! Top 5 favorite rap album.
This joint is poetic
Damn that was the soundtrack to my freshman year of high school.
Hip Hop Evolution on Netflix has a great episode on the New York alternative rap scene featuring Mos Def and Talib Kweli - Black Star.
They revitalized hip hop in that Era from an underground Label. Legendary
If I’d ever have to show someone, a song that defines HIP HOP, this one’s it! Favorite song period!
Best conscious hip hop album of the 90s, no doubt!!!
This album is one of my all time faves!
I,ve always Listened to Rap lyrics and it's Poetry with truth messages to a hip hop deep bass beat 🔥 Just love the word play / rhyming formula 💯

Great pick. Check out Definition on same record. My favorite track.
That one is fire 🔥!!
Dope! Blackstar and Common are the illest!
for sho one of the best songs of all time!!!!
It really bugs me when people say rappers don't make music. Like... YOU read the dictionary and come up with a song. Or a poem.

@@ijustneedmyself thank you. But seriously, though... I'm amazed at how well rappers use language.

Black Thought remix of this is also great.
With a Pete Rock beat of course.
