John Smith was a marvellous Labour leader. He would've been a brilliant prime minister.

I would certainly have preferred him to Tony Blair.

Twenty five years on and his memory, values and humble desire to serve still remain. Todays politicians would do well to heed John Smith’s example.

I remember this well. It was a tragedy for UK politics. He was a fine parliamentarian. He'd had made a great PM.

Still mourned in 2018, as politics has become devalued beyond belief.

John Smith was a very clever man and no doubt would have made an excellent prime minister

When John Smith died, the possibility for a proper Labour government died. RIP.

The UK would be a different place if he had become pm instead of Blair.

One of a very very small number of decent MPs from the last 30 years.

Brings back memories of a great Labour Leader and totally effective leader of the opposition. There's not many like him.

It's a shame he never got to finish the job he seems like he would be a brilliant Prime Minister and I'm sure if he has been Prime Minister the war on Iraq and so many other terrible things that have happened would never have happened

What are you talking about, John Smith died of a heart attack, Tony Blair was elected as leader by the Labour Party, then elected as Prime Minister 3 times by the British public.
