    Your videos are great! I camped at Gandy Creek Dispersed Camping area the middle of this month and then drove to Spruce Knob Lake and Spruce Knob then headed to Seneca Rocks and headed home. My youngest son was with me and due to an injury he wasn’t able to hike but I definitely want to go back and hike that area. It’s about 2 hours from me. I’m almost to the point where I think I’m brave enough to camp alone in my Suburban. I’ve been hiking alone for almost a year and I love it. Thanks for your videos, they are inspiring, beautiful, and just enjoyable because you have a great personality and positive outlook.

      Julie, thanks so very much for your kind words! That area is so gorgeous, Spruce Knob felt almost religious to me (and I'm not the religious type!) I hope you are able to return before too long and that eventually the time is right for you to try solo camping. If you can "driveway" camp first as a dry-run, I'd recommend - it might alert you to some issues you hadn't thought of, and it'll give you a little boost of confidence when you venture out on your own. My very best to you (and I hope your youngest heals well!). Take good care, TT

    The fire tower was great. My dad worked 30 years for the forest service

      It was So windy that day! I was white-knuckling those handrails for sure. Hats off to your dad for his service!

    As a life long West Virginian, thank you for posting such an awesome and positive video. I am glad you loved the Sods (Dolly Sods). I hike there at least once a year. You can't beat the beauty or the views. Dolly Sods, Seneca Rocks, and Spruce Knob are my favorites. I hope you got the chance to check out Blackwater Falls State Park and the beautiful views there, especially the falls, Pendleton Point, and Lindy Point have spectacular views. If not check it out on your next trip, it is not far from Olsen Tower.

      Hi Donnie - wow, thank you so much for your kind words, and for tips on other places to check out. That is very much appreciated! I haven't been to the spots you mentioned and am excited about researching them. Take good care, and thanks again!

    Spruce Knob is sublime! Spruce Knob Lake has an unforgettable camping spot, but it's a hike in and tent site. Love Dolly Sods!

      omg Right?!! This video was my first trip to the area and I absolutely fell in love. I actually got a little emotional at Spruce Knob, it had such a feel to it. And the folks I encountered fishing along Spruce Knob Lake were the friendliest around. Thanks so much for watching!

    I like your truck. Looks like it is set up well. I have a Silverado set up for camping. I have camped in it a month at a time on Arizona trips. I live in south West Ohio. With gas prices so high I am looking for closer interesting areas. West Virginia is now high on my list. Thanks for this video.

      Hiya Keith - thanks for watching! I would love to do some longer trips - your month long excursions to Arizona sound amazing! Monongahela and the George Washington Nat'l Forest both have a lot of really good boondock camping options - hope you're able to check them out.

    I’m curious how are you lock the tailgate on the cap end of the truck. I’ve done some travel in my Toyota with a cab but did not know how to secure the backend after I was in there. 🤔

    • @thewanderingway
      @thewanderingway  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jean - I have a tight bungie that I can attach to the cap clamp at one end and the lid strut at the other. It wouldn't do much, but would make it harder to open the back and would definitely give me warning that someone was trying to get in. But I've never felt the need to use it. I've heard of some folks using vice grips on the locking bar, attached from the inside to keep it from being able to move/open. That didn't work on my cap but enough folks have mentioned it that it must work for some.
