its pretty sad that you didn't know about this stuff before stockpiling, your ignorance can get someone killed. You shouldn't be anywhere near a stockpile operation with your lack of intelligence and training my god man.....how pathetic does someone need to be to be in an industry and have no experience? Reduce risk of killing people, get out now before you kill someone
I was more concerned about spontaneous combustion. Had a couple of fires, in a stock pile you can open it up but in the pit we had one burn for over a year until we cut round a hill with scrapers and broke it open
Look at the underground fire in Centralia, Pennsylvania I believe. The town used to burn their trash which accidentally ignited an underground coal mine. It has been burning ever since almost 50 years* and counting. Entire town had to be abandoned.
@@seanriopel3132 yep, the underground mine here back in the 90s was on fire, they sealed up some of the drifts, they were bringing in a semi truck load of liquid nitrogen every 3 days and injecting it into the drifts until one morning, the gas levels were to high so they sent everyone home and later boom.
I never knew feeders and drawpoints existed for taking coal from a stockpile. I wondered how they got the coal out efficiently without scooping it up into a conveyor or hopper.
@@mfbfreak The voids are at the intakes to the conveyor systems. Those are at known locations. Some of these dozer operators get in trouble because the intake gets covered and they lose track of where it is, and drive over it. A cell phone GPS could easily let them know where the intakes are.
Radar has been around in a usable state since the 1940s, but it may not be so easy/cheap to use in this kind of equipment. It’s cheaper to make safety videos and use cheap methods of warning than to actually value employee safety if you’re a mining operation.
Every year on newyears i used to survey all the stockpiles for the mines we worked for. Walking all around feeders and dropping a 200' tape to measure silos . Dozer guys usually walked the stockpiles in good for us
there was a rather bad (and documented on video) incident where a guy and his dozer got eaten by one of those drawpoints, which is why these exact safety regulations were implemented, and why breathing apparatus became required. The video of that incident should be on youtube, but cannot recall what it's called
No mention of fire hazards? Would have thought this could be a very serious issue, with hot equipment working on top of coal, possibly emitting dust particles or gases which are extremely combustible.
I'm here to watch the R/C bulldozer and plastic guy get buried. They could have set the miniature coal pile on fire too, for added drama. And then have a R/C firetruck come out. 😅 😂
Yeah but how many companies actually follow their rules and safety of their employees ? If that's the case we wouldn't have lost a lot of minors if the companies have followed the rules and safety !
There was an accident in Eastern Utah and my friend told a woman friend that 17 miners were lost . She was horrified and asked who let children into mines

Sadly this is probably the video they still show new guys. I know all the videos I've had to watch for work over the last decade were older then dirt
Don't know why this was shot on Tape in the 90's lol with music made on some random casio.
I bet the composer was totally felling it

respect for the brave toys who volunteered for this video
Toy story isn't real? can I assume that was auto correct and you meant to say boys?

You have a surge pile and you take away one lump of coal. Is it still a surge pile?
This was fierce interesting.☘️👍
It is,ya bog hopper! 😂
wouldnt some sort of simple radar set up help spot voids?
if we can find a fish it seems like we could find something that will swallow a dozer

This is a great reminder of how "clean coal" is neither a new concept nor "clean" as most people understand the word, it's just processed.
I believe the concept of "clean coal" is the process of capturing the gasses that are released by burning it.
I listen for the screams of people trapped in the feeders and use them as a guide for where I should drive.
The opening music made me feel like I was watching the intro to a steampunk JRPG.
