I really like Celtic and Arthurian myths. I do write some poetry on it, and your work is really a good rendition of how those myths sounds like to me : mysterious, epic, brutal but also hypnotizing, warm and calm. Good job man, keep up the good work.
These are incredibly kind words - thank you! 🙏 Keep up the epic poetry & writing - gotta stay creative ⚔️💪📜 If you enjoy epic poetry, check out “Y Gododdin” (The Gododdin). I was kindly gifted a copy by a good friend - a brutal, heroic medieval elegy / lament to fallen warriors at the battle of Catraeth (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Y_Gododdin). Worth reading for sure - totally epic!
Hey I just wanted to say fantastic work. I've listened to The Cailleach at least 20 times by now. That ending is just absolutely perfect. Looking forward to hearing more of your work.

This is an absolutely mammoth compliment - honestly. Thank you! 🙏 The DS scene sets the bar pretty high compositionally so this is incredibly humbling! I haven’t had any formal / classical musical training - I got started learning tracks I love by ear, on a crappy Yamaha SHS-10 keyboard (mini keys! 🤮) formerly owned by a sibling - learning keyboard melodies & riffs by Summoning, Dead Can Dance, NIN and others - who are classically influenced / trained, so I guess you could say I was informally schooled by Trent Reznor, and Silenius & Protector of Summoning 😂 From there, I read about music theory, learning scales / modes (discovering melodic & harmonic minor was a revelation!) and just “practicing”, playing and learning… and continuing to play and learn, striving to improve and get better at “the craft”… the perennial quest of the musician ⚔️ But ultimately, I just frigging love music. Making it, listening to it, being transported to another era, vibe or dimension by sound… it’s incredible!
Thanks for asking! The main DS influences for Carnyx are Vindkaldr, Carwylm, Old Tower, Hole Dweller, Thangorodrim and Mari Lwyd ("Y Ddraig Goch" is a great album!) - amongst others... Vindkaldr's "Enchantments of Old Lore" was the one that did it in terms of the birth of this project! So also a MASSIVE longtime Summoning fan, here - although not (technically?) DS - and they are a huge long-term influence. "Minas Morgul" is an absolute JAM 🤘 Aside from metal & DS - Celtic folk (Irish, Welsh, Scottish & Breton), some synthwave and 60's / 70's era psychedelic music are also big influences 👍
@@Carnyx-uk Thank you for the detailed answer! I definitely already knew about Vindkaldr, Old Tower, and Summoning (Dol Guldur is my go-to). I will surely check the others out. It's funny that you mentioned Hole Dweller among those big names. "Flies the Coop" was the very first dungeon synth album I ever listened to, I clicked on it because of the Tolkien-esque cover, and it has stayed with me since.
