  • An except from "Brexit the Opera".
"Brexit the Opera" takes a sardonic look back at 2019 as the UK decides to leave the EU, set to the music of Gilbert and Sullivan.
Written and performed by - Ian Back and Iestyn Moris.

Great minds think alike, until mid-1999 my surname was originally Sullivan, at boarding school my eardrums were frequently and unmercilessly bashed "where's Gilbert?" from my schoolboy associates. W.S. Gilbert wrote the words whereby A.S. Sullivan had written the music. I'm a highly prolific pencil sketch artist and I am currently drawing "Grimsdyke House" where Gilbert had lived until 1911. I would love to communicate with the talented individual who had written the words for "Brexit The Opera".

"When I, dear friends, was called to the bar...". It's the Judge's Song from Trial by Jury. Not to be confused with "When I was a lad.." which is from HMS Pinafore, and also parodied:

@@obiterdictum1510 Recalls to mind "How to write your own Gilbert and Sullivan opera" by the late, VERY Great, incomparably funny *A*N*N*A *R*U*S*S*E*L*L*: "Oh, it's veddy, veddy funny /when you've lots and lots of money / to be horrible to those with none!" Look it up; must be on YT somewhere! Not to be missed (ESPECIALLY as she sings all four parts in the obligatory quartet!!)! BTW, as an American who is alternately amused and appalled by British politics, I have to say that "Brexit, the Opera" is hilarious . . . but now that the Tories are out, will we see a revision??? Gawd knows, Labour has plenty of its own oxen to gore!
