@@severanceflames2201 u didnt think it was bad bc the video is edited to look nice but ryu had to play that level and the same parts over and over and over again w/o knowing what to do and i bet that got old real quick
I think the second checkpoint not doing anything in that level might have been a mistake, but he only realize it once he beat the whole level in one go and then had to clear from checkpoint. At which point he wouldn’t have wanted to fix it and do it all over again.
He explained in one of the comments that he didn’t know the second check point didnt work. And when he have to clear from check point, he thought that this is how clear check point work
Mechanics of that level were cool. A few tweaks with indicators and better second checkpoint placement would make it tough but fair.
To the creator of the big boy level, don't be afraid of negative feedback.
He may have been harsh with his words, but it was a rare and genuine feedback.
Even more if you aspire to work with level design some day, try to understand why he felt the way he did, what could be improved, your mistakes, what went wrong and what went right.
Your idea looked really good and I believe you can achieve even better levels in the future.

Damn I'd be pumped if Ryu played one of my levels for 40 minutes and then said it was shit hot garbage.
I thought the mechanics were quite creative.
When you try to ask or get feedback from people many times you will not have all the information you need to understand what went wrong, where you can or need to improve.
If you ask for a friend "hey test this level and give me your feedback" they will not be completely honest because they most likely don't want to be harsh with you.
It is also difficult to have feedback from your specific target audience.
Having someone that is really experienced in your target demographic, that is able to give feedback to you being completely honest about how he or she really felt, and being some random person on internet able to give you feedback without attacking you as a person, that to me is rare.
And Ryu gave his genuine thoughts on the level (at least it looked to me that it was genuine)
I also believe that it was a great level that only needed some more polishing,
and to acquire experience you need to practice practice practice.
So again, don't give up, you have potential and can grow even better.
It was his first level. Definitely an innocent mistake
I think the idea with the second check point was that you grab the key, and go back through the key door, and grab the checkpoint. But the level designer didn't realise that key doors don't stay open after death. But why he didn't just put the second checkpoint there instead of the door is beyond me...
Poor checkpoint placement on an otherwise alright level.
I couldn’t put the checkpoint there because they only allow 1 checkpoint per world/subworld. I SWEAR I DIDNT KNOW :( I feel so bad lol

Hey Ryu, probably what happened about the checkpoint is that when you are uploading a level, first you have to clear it from the beginning, afterwards from the checkpoint, when he noticed the error he would already have cleared from beginning, then he wasn't willing to clear from beginning again.
Think that's it...
I never actually thought there was an error lol. It was my first level and I was unaware of that mechanic. Turns out I was horribly wrong lol

To the creator of the Big Boy Cave level, don't let the harshness of the review get you down. I saw many things in the level that I found promising. I enjoyed watching Ryu figure out the level and I applaud you for your effort. Personally, I think when you get the mechanics down for each situation, the level is rather fun. Just a little mishap with the second checkpoint. Keep positive.
Nah, that level was absolutely atrocious for all the reasons Ryu mentioned. You don't have to be positive and nice at every single second when you're served a shit sandwhich. I think he articulated exactly what his problems were with the level perfectly. Then you feel like you have to come in and sugar coat it so someone doesn't get their feelings hurt?

@@Nunya644 Seriously. If creators gave up because their first level wasn't good, we wouldn't have any good creators today. Ryu's critique was rough, but that kind of feedback is valuable, and I would say that Ryu was being nice about it.

Because someone didn't mean to hurt you but did in a way doesn't mean you should hurt them back. Best you can do is give some constructive criticism and don't be an ass about it. An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind, don't ever forget that.

The creator probably tried to design a mechanic so that respawning from that checkpoint would give a key, since there's no way to die at that checkpoint (besides timing out) as seen in a lot of troll levels. But I'm guessing that maybe when they realized it didn't work, by then they had already cleared the level in one shot from start and really didn't want to have to edit and beat it all again, so they left it as is.
The creator is somewhere here in the comments. He had a wrong understanding of the checkpoints, and didn't realize the mistake even during clear check. Only now did he get it.

Honestly, that level seems to be pretty fun, even if it's very punishing due to CP2 not working.
I think it would work better as a red coin level, where the various challenges can be tackled independently.

I feel bad for the guy. He obviously didn't know that the checkpoints dont give you back your keys. Plus, since the uploader cant rely on checkpoints anyways, he wouldn't have realised.
I honestly think the level was pretty creative, other than one of the checkpoints not functioning plus the set-ups being confusing, I think it's pretty nice. If it was tuned up a bit to make the intended path more clear and to move the final checkpoint after the key door it would be a pretty good level I think

I too was convinced there was some kind of cheese in this level concerning those checkpoints but when I looked at this level in a level viewer, I couldn't find anything. There's a weird unused section at the top of the main world, where you have two red shell turtles walking back and forth, but there's no way to interact with them and they don't do anything, and neither of them have a key, so maybe this guy's level was just janky.

When he hits the P-switch at 5:36, I swear there's some kind of flash with all the blocks deactivating and then immediately reappearing, meaning he must have hit it at like the last possible frame. Messes with my brain and eyes.

I feel like he might intended to have a second checkpoint behind the second key as an extra, but then he realized the whole setup wouldn't work so the link between CP1 and CP2 came as an afterthought. So that begs the question, why not just do away with the second key and just place CP2 forward, or add a third key next to CP2?
Could it be because the creator wanted to pick something up from earlier in the game? (hidden powerup?)
I actually thought that it would be a speed run method. I didn’t know that it wouldn’t work lol and I wanted people to be able to skip the red coin section if they wanted to :) unfortunately, I was unaware of this issue :(

Having an extra key door is always confusing; it’s better if you can find some way to arrange stuff that people can more easily guess what door does what. Or, if there’s enough space, you can even write something in the level using course parts if you have to!

The second checkpoint go into left pipe you can see a track leading to a bomb, you go there and wait about a minute to get a key

I have a level that's impossible to beat from the first checkpoint(I was providing video evidence of how to clear the section because it was "very easy" And came across the change) because at some point one turtle turned into a block making it impossible to spawn a vine needed to get a coin xD
