    Architecture
40:15 architecture) before it was hybrid maya and zbrush, but now can do it all in zbrush
41:10 look to break down complex architecture into similar and often used modular pieces like LEGO blocks, to build arch quickly, if you sculpt entire building by hand it would take forever
42:07 start with ref image, by using spotlight
43:04 turning on the grid of the cube and lowering the subdivision and changing basic shape
43:55 zmodeler brush magic, can stitch lines and delete lines easy
44:44 in zbrush basic grid to maya is 2cmX2cm
    45:10 inserting multiple edge loops
45:57 old arch method of maya and zbrush
47:30 using group by normals setting to see faces better
47:42 Polygroup tool, awesome, can select faces and then extrude like in Maya
48:23 troubleshooting) if sometimes extrude is only moving 1 face
49:50 if you want the 2 extruded faces to match I’m guessing extrude length, then this is how to do it
50:23 stitching points and roughly curving the edges , smooth edges/ bevel is easy to do in zbrush than maya so you can save for later
50:55 troubleshooting) if the scaling to curve edges is slow you can just do one edge at a time
51:33 using Boolean to “cut out” shapes by placing 2 models together and then subtracting ones form from another
52:06 turn on transparency to see and scale dow the huge primitive cylinder he just brought in
& then use the cylinder + Boolean tool, to cut in the curve
52:10 the specific curve he want is actually a combination of a sphere and rectangle, so he deletes half the cylinder then makes the bottom face a single face and then extrude that down to get the shape he wants
52:40 grab/select half of the cylinder> delete hidden to take out half
52:55 zmodeler tool, has the Close feature to close up the empty space
And if you want a clean topology on the bottom face, can deleted the edgeloops on the cylinder
And hold X to delete each edgeloops faster, by deleting on symmetry

Love this guy, he really knows his stuff. I especially liked the fact he prefers to use mouse to interact with the UI instead of the pen. I thought it was just me...

Great to see some enviro art stuff, but for modular pieces like this it is still much better to do that stuff in Max/Maya. The blockout mesh essentially is your in-game finished mesh. In this example Max's spline tools would be a far superior approach. Not to mention grid snapping, real-world scale, no retopology/topo cleanup, and the fact that N-gons(your best friend when modeling for games)are illegal topology in ZB and, very importantly, there are no smoothing groups. Also, using the Styx plugin for Max/Maya/Zbrush makes the app interop completely seamless/painless.
Once blockout/in-game mesh is built it's simply a matter of Styx>Dynamesh>sculpt>Styx. Everything is right where it should be in Maya/Max. No messing around with scale. Ready for baking.

learnt some new techniques from this. but wouldnt it still be easier to make parts of a building in a poly model program like maya. then UV it and if you need to sculpt into a clean UV'd model you export to zbursh? havent done much hardsurface in zbrush so I'm curious

Nate's part was painful to watch, he talks about speed when he does all of the things slower than he would in traditional modeling software, especially Blender with Boxcutter
