    Wow, how many legends and "national treasures" did this childrens show spawn?
    Almost all of the, to be, Monty Python team
    Bonzo dog band with Neil Innes, who worked with Eric idle on the "legendary in thier own lunchtime" Beatles spoof, The Rutles.
    And if that wasnt enough..David Jason...now a national treasure and well respected actor.

    I'd never heard of this until it was on a programme about Sir David Jason. It was for kids at 5.0 pm but eventually was aired later at 7:0 pm because adults were dashing home from work to watch it. Jason was left behind when the university three moved on to start Monty Python. He wasn’t too pleased.

We hardly got any comedy when I was young on TV. It was like the craic and humour was illegal on the TV. No wonder my dad who lived in England during the 60s loved UK TV. RTE didnt have much funny stuff when I grew up.

      In his autobiography Jason writes that Palin, Jones and Idle got increasingly frustrated with the limitations of writing the show that they simply refused to write any more scripts and buggered off with Cleese and Chapman leaving Jason and Coffey in the lurch.

    David Jason was not asked to come along with the three Python's when that programme was being put together... I have often wondered why he was not invited to be part of that team... Then again, if he had thrown in his lot with them there may never have been a character called DEL BOY in the superb Only Fools And Horses... Prior to that of course there were episodes of Porridge and co-starring with Ronnie Barker again in Open All Hours.... This show is pretty good but lacks the finesse of MPFC.

    • @neilinely
      @neilinely 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      David Jason was probably not asked to join the others because they were old friends from university days whereas he didn’t go to university. In his autobiography he recalls going to a party they were at with lots of “pretty intellectual conversation” and feeling “out of his depth”. I suspect they felt he didn’t quite fit in with them or their humour.

    Thanks for uploading!
    But it's funny that even though the video is in B&W and of poor quality
    It's also was uploaded in 144p,10 fps...
    Quality's already bad,why adding to it LOL

      It makes it easy to imagine sitting in front of a tiny black & white TV set with an aerial, snowy reception and garbled sound in 1967 - verisimilitude!

    I object to the fact that there are far too few episodes of this outstanding programme. Also apparently some cannot understand humor unless it is something that can be directly applied to their current position in life, ie current fads, politics etc. Ahem, SNL sucks! My deepest regret for their shallow unimaginative lives. Sincerely Brigadier General Smokestoomuch Mrs.

    Was it Neil Innes playing the harpsichord for real in the orchestra sketch?
