All I can say is Bravo for the Zookeepers! who must have been holding the breathes and turning blue for those many months of not wanting to take another baby from dear Genki for hand-rearing, but all the while seeing Kinny still so skinny and then not being able to supplement him because Genki held him so close. You all made the correct decisions, but I can imagine just how hard it was to worry everyday about it.

I watch other gorillas. The babies are all around a year and a little older. They all look the same to me. I do not think kintaro looks thin. He looks like the others. He is fed lots of fruits and vegetables by the keepers. 🌹

If you follow this baby he grows into a beautiful healthy young gorilla. He has a great Mom and Dad and sweet brother. I love the care givers and you seen to love your charges. Wish I could visit your family!!!
Kintaro is 5 months but so so tiny.... baby gorilla Thandie of Antwerpen zoo in Belgium is 6 months and she is already crawling and eating and walking.....
Mermaid, it worries me that he is so tiny. I wonder if he is able to get enough milk from mum. She never lets him go, so it must be hard for the zoo to check him properly.
The same thing happened to Gentaro, he was dying and the staff had to take him from her and rear him. The keeper said he will never forget Genki's scream of anguish when they took Gentaro away. I think this memory still haunts Genki and she is too scared to put Kintaro down but I'm sure the staff are watching closely.

These beautiful souls share our emotions and no doubt mom fears she may have her little prince hand reared. @@maryeddy4871 Thanks for those links Mary they were most interesting and wasn't Gentaro a real little cutie. ;) As for this situation I just hope it works out well. Helping with some bottle feeding would be the thing but I think the baby needs some training for that. I don't think the zoo staff would want to put Genki through another separation trauma unless it was a last resort. I guess we just have to hope for the best.
Genki is a great mom, but I think she is not producing enough milk for Baby Kintaro, Baby Kintaro should be bigger than what he is now. just very concern. Zoo please look into his health.
If I remember correctly , I think they are giving one bottle feeding to help. I watch several chimps and gorillas. But I think this is the one that gets a bottle.🌹
@Shenoski Travoski why would I have to be a vet to say.....I think they are giving bottles to kintaro. I can have an opinion without being a vet. I still think he looks normal. Your opinion is he looks skinny. We don't agree, so what ? Kintaro isnt very old in this video. He's not going to be overly chubby.
I’ve been following this family and I’m concerned! I don’t mean to sound negative but the baby is way too skinny. You can easily see his spine and also his ribcage. Clearly he is not progressing normally. This makes me sad.
Holly Kane I agree, but 11 mos ago when I wrote that message he did not seem fine. I’m glad that they started supplementing him at some point after that. He sure seems healthy now! Hope all are well during this Covid time. 🙂
I love this Gorilla Family , But baby Kintaro is way to small and skinny for his age. He should be crawling , walking a little and standing, Zoo please look into Baby Kintaro health. LOVE!!!!
She's looking and checking him out to make sure he's ok. And some human mothers have their babies ripped out and thrown in the trash. This gorilla mama is so in love with her baby.

They did give him milk from a bottle as you can tell now he is fine. They can give him supplement like our babies need if dehydrated

Genki must be tired by raising the baby on her own. Gorilla father seem like just a symbol, did nothing to help raising.
