I’m playing a circle of the stars Druid for a spelljammer campaign and was looking for ideas, and then you uploaded this video shortly after. It must be fate…a fate written in the stars haha
I expanded on the base flavour with my Star Druid. My Starry Forms are all my Druid mimicking the powers of stars: a pulsar for the archer, a stellar nursery got the chalice, and a black hole for the dragon. Love these flavours too!
I once reflavored the star druid to make a character build for Aang from ATLA. The starry form was his avatar state and cosmic omen ability was consulting the past avatars for advice
Oh, these are so much more thematic (and dignified) than my idea for a Stars Druid. I might try one in the future but for now I'm definitely sticking with my take on the Astrology Bitch meme, who's part on-point armchair psychologist, part perma-tripping hippie optimist with impulse control issues. I'm hoping the DM will allow a self administered stick-and-poke star map tattoo on her arm. I haven't figured out if her character presentation would effect her other skill's appearance but I like the idea of a glass flask of some kind that she can read the weal/woe 'tea' leaves from. Overall, my aim is maximum shenanigans :D.
I once made a star druid aasimar based on biblical angels. Each form represented a different heavenly sphere. First sphere=dragon (after the fiery ones), second sphere=archer (after the powers), theid sphere=chalice (after the guardian angels). And yes, their celestial transformation was that of a many eyed monster

I once played a Stars Druid/Peace Cleric who worshipped Angarradh and their Starry forms were inspired by the three goddesses that formed Angarradh, Sehanine Moonbow for the Archer, Hanali Cenanil as the chalice and Aerdrie Faenya as the Winged creature (reflavored since she wasn't a draconic god lol) It's awesome to see that idea be in a video of yours! Your idea for the Abserd reflavor has shone a spotlight on how cool this subclass is to me. I'm totally going to do this now, thank you for the inspiration!
Funny thing about the spirit thing is that I was already doing that sort of since the start of this year for my current character. XD My current Druid is a Kalashtar Circle of Stars called Aurora and for how I handled her, since the Ethereal Plane and Astral Plane are the same in the campaign I am in, her powers come from the Spirit she is bonded to. The spirit is named Boreala and she is a ghost that has bandages covering different parts of her body. For what is done is that since druids get their power from being around their themed nature, he being contected a a spirit from the Astral Sea is a close connection to the stars. I basically decided to try and make a fun synergy between the race and class theme wise. So for when she goes into Starry Form, they are switching who is on the "pilot" set of the body. The different Star Forms (with a homebrewed fourth one added in) are reworked into being based off of the 4 elements of the Zodiac. Each form has a bandaged theme part to theme. Fire, Archer, would make a bow out of ghostly bandages. Water, Chalice, would have two bandages connect together on the arms like certain mythos healers and have bandages fly off to others to wrap around for extra healing. And Wind, dragon, gives a bandage themed scarf that acts as wings at later levels. Earth is basically Temporary hitpoints given.
Good stuff. Only Circle of Stars I’ve had was when I DMed a Theros campaign. My buddy played a Leonin iconoclast who viewed the stars as something above the gods. Pretty cool.
@@mslabo102s2 Depends how you interpret "Horizons." I did not include power over stars. He more or less looked at the stars as evidence that his ancestors were able to become just as immortal as the gods. You could spin Kruphix though, and play a similar character.
Using magic the gathering mana colors for inspiration, I’ve got a Green/Blue mana inspired Stars Druid studying the nature of magic, leylines, and in general the natural geomantic circumstances that affect all spellcasting.
I'm currently running a stars with split personalities from the TV show Farscape as my inspiration. Way more fun role playing. Primary is John Chrichton complete with nicknames for each of the party members, Archor is Chiana, Chalice was originally Pa'u Zotoh Zhaan but I went with Stark "Your side my side!" Dragon is Ka D'argo. The sci fi reference may be lost on the younger crowd, so if you don't know what I'm talking about, you should watch the series.
While watching this video, you really sparked an idea for me. Expanding on using the Earth as inspiration, i've thought of flavoring the abilities based on biospheres (for the msot part). The star map can be the Exo Sphere. You make a literal globe with a star map. Simple as that. The Archer can be the Litho Sphere. You throw rocks for your attacks ala earth benders. The Chalice can be the Hydro Sphere. Literally taking from the vastness of the ocean to bring life. Life did start in water after all. And the Dragon can be the Atmo Sphere. Clouds can cover you as fluffy protection. You maintain concentration better while comfortable. And well, wind powers for flight.
I saw an idea of a Giff Star Druid whose starry forms were the constellations of the lost Giff Homeworld. The difficulty is that it sacrifices a lot of optimization for flavor.
I did both the Aberd and the Cleric as a worshiper of Brigid of Irish mythos in a recent game. Archer was her smith aspect, Dragon was her poetess aspect, and Chalice was her doctor aspect. I also played one as a support NPC in my Ravenloft x Persona game. A therapy dog raised by wiccans, Riri could summon Maiden, Matron, or Crone as 3 faces of a singular persona.
Idea; a star druid whose powers change over time or between planes because the constellations change That would probably be a Wild sorcerer flavored as a druid
Great video! Love the reflavouring series. I think a cool, possibly a bit challenging, sub-class to reflavour is the evocation wizard. I tend to find there is one way everybody views evokers when played and I'd love to see your takes on them.
You mention how plants are the core of the druid class, but it actually annoys me how little flora is included in the class features. It’s mostly about animals. Heck, even the capstone is about wildshaping indefinitely. That just doesn’t feel right for a plant based druid. I actually have an int based Lore Bard concept at the top of my to play list, which is reflavored as a Herbalist. It works so well!
Seeds/bubbles for Archer, a giant flower for Dragon flight, and barkskin for the damage resistances? The Plant makes me think of Link's Deku Scrub from Majora's Mask. Maybe, the Chalice is just a Song of Healing, with the Song of Time being used for Weal, and Woe... Well... Perhaps, they're simply being met by a terrible fate.
It doesn't detract from the video at all but in the thumbnail, Ryker looks to be both high & possessed. Again, it doesn't take from the video, it's just somewhat amusing
No idea if you plan on making a better moon druid (or maybe you have and I forgot) but a suggestion is “the Ben 10” instead of turning into animals you turn into aliens or other species and use animal stat blocks
Could slightly rework the ‘absurd’ flavour to run it as multiple personalities inhabiting the same body, either as disorder or supernatural possession.
The thing I disliked about the Stars Druid was being limited to three constellations. It made sense power wiae but not thematically. There are just so many more constellations in the sky. Reflavouring it as you have here can fix the "problem" for me. Three runes for each of air, water and land animals might be cool and so much more druidic.
Could do one for each main aspect of nature: the earth and all its blessings, the sun and stars for their radiance, both dim and bright, and life - sapient, sentient, and all - in their durability and adaptations.

I multiclassed mine with a swarmkeeper whose swarm is fireflies. The light theme from the stars druid was the light produced by the lightning bugs

I use this subclass as a 2 lvl dip for a Sun Soul monk to get a "kamehaha" at a pb/day rate. really adds to the dbz flavor
