    This looks like something straight outta the 70's or 80's! Way cool! I would like to have one of those big ghetto blasters with the 2 speakers that I could carry on my shoulder. Nothing too big though. Maybe something the size of a small sedan.😁

    The first one (CT100) is a Panasonic RQ-517S clone, but this one has me stumped. It looks like it's also made from another old Panasonic mold/template (the auto-stop badge is obviously covering up where a counter would have been), or at least parts of one. A variation on the RQ-512S, maybe?

    • @Recordology
      @Recordology  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting - I didn't think about the counter I bet you are right!

  • @RJDA.Dakota

    The CT 100 looks so much like a Sharp Radio/Cassette recorder that I actually had to do a double take. The Sharp really was a Great deal because it did play great and had great sound for it’s time. It had full auto stop, though and had something called APSS: Auto Programme Search System. The CT 200 looks more like a larger version of the same thing.

  • @pcallas66
    @pcallas66 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    When you opened the door, I saw the auto stop mechanism.

    • @Recordology
      @Recordology  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Turns out it does auto stop from play - just not from ff / rw.

  • @EddieJazzFan
    @EddieJazzFan 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Semi Auto-Stop means it stops at the end of tape play, but not when rewinding or fast forwarding.
    Great machine for the money. BTW can you record from the radio to the cassette?

    • @Recordology
      @Recordology  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will need to test the radio recording - I believe so based on the CT100. Interesting about the semi auto stop!

    • @christronicsdereksrandomness36
      @christronicsdereksrandomness36 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Recordology Yes also with semi auto stop, if the take-up spindle jams for any reason, the mechanism will not stop, therefore the tape will still be fed between the capstan and pinch-roller resulting in the tape being eaten.

    Is it my imagination or does the CT200b have a backlit radio dial? It looked golden while you were tuning the band.
    Your model is the ct200bt that has Bluetooth. An earlier model doesn't appear to have it.
    I like the look of this one, but too bad it doesn't have the SD card slot like the ct100 has.
    A comparable radio by Ion, the isp113s has the tape section, Bluetooth, the card slot and USB. There's also the bigger Ion Street Rocker with dual speakers.

    Looks great..I reckon the recording playback was slightly better on this one.For me the true test of a cassette player comes with time..Ie will it still play ok,after a few weeks of use without chewing a tape up,or just basically stopping every few seconds.This has sadly been my experience on some of the all in one players.People have suggested the tapes are likely tight,although i have wound forward and backwards a few times to loosen them.Someone told me modern tape players are just not up to playing old tapes !!!! ,But i guess that is like someone saying ceramic carts ruin your records Lol....Great review..Such uplifting presentation too..A joy to watch..Cheers.Ade

    If you bought that in the 1980s you would have still had stereo! Also metal capability. I don't believe we live in a world where we can't recreate the same technology we had 30 years ago now, so why can't it be stereo?

    • @Recordology
      @Recordology  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Its not a matter of 'can we,' absolutely we could- its a matter of what do consumers (the majority of them) want / need. A high end deck wont sell to the masses anymore so the market cant support it. Plus, Dolby isn't in the business of licensing their NR technology anymore.

    Breaking news: Tanashin quit tape mech production in the 2000s. Today's 'tanashins' are unlicensed chinese copies. More in the 2/2019 issue of Kilobyte magazine. They could not reliably track the manufacturer, but had a firm first-hand statement from Tanashin rep.

    • @Recordology

      Very interesting! So is this one company the last one left?

    • @nvo7024
      @nvo7024 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Recordology Quote: "it is next to impossible to say how many companies exactly are still producing the TN-21 mechanism today. There are two that might be doing it on their own, considering all the information they are willing to share online: Shenzhen Chaobotao Electronics Technology and Dongguan Wanjiang Mingjia Electronic Factory, the latter being the producer of the Aldi Boombox Techmoan reviewed. Digging deeper, there seems to be only one manufacturer of magnetic tape heads left in China, which is called East Sun Electronic. As you see, there is nothing definitive to be said in this matter. Inquiries via e-mail to those Chinese companies stayed unanswered."

    They don’t make decent cassette decks any more. Most are mono and made very cheaply. I wish they they made more then the cheap tanashin mechanism. Company’s like crossly buy the cheapest things they can find and sell them for 3 times the price. I wish they also made mechanisms that can play metal tape. Metal tape sounds much better then cd.

    It looks neat, but for $79, why not just buy a good Bluetooth speaker. What you have here is a cheap speaker with a cassette player attachment.
