- The Arbore live in Southern Ethiopia and have developed a technique of building large houses from natural materials. Reeds are gathered from the shores of Lake Turkana and carried for many miles before being placed, still in their bundles onto the frame of the house. Building is a community process and shared equally between the men and the women, and the whole house can be built in a single evening, so it is fresh for the newly wedded couple to move into.
After three months a front porch is added which symbolises the fact that the marriage is successful and the family is about to start.

And not to mention that this is the richest naturally resourced continent with and yet its people live as you mentioned 1200 yrs ago makes you wonder how Europe as exploited our people.

Fantastic video. Educational, informative and absorbing. What a wonderful way to concrete the relationship between two families; this community cooperation is what is missing from the Western world. Don't ever say these people are primitive- they are head and shoulders better than we are at making things happen. Diplomacy in action. And using what is available instead of buying stuff they can't afford and really don't need.... Thank you I've watched most of these videos; they really are wonderful. ☮️

There is no Home Depot over the hill and even if there were, these people do not know modern building techniques. They build the same way their ancestors did using the same materials.

I have often wondered how much humanity had before they dispersed around the world. Clearly pointy sticks and some basic weaving skills as these are shared with our common ancestors the great apes, but maybe the knot was there too.

Os Arbore vivem no sul da Etiópia e desenvolveram uma técnica de construção de casas grandes com materiais naturais. Juncos são recolhidos nas margens do Lago Turkana e carregados por muitos quilômetros antes de serem colocados, ainda em seus feixes, na estrutura da casa. A construção é um processo comunitário e compartilhado igualmente entre homens e mulheres, e a casa inteira pode ser construída em uma única noite, por isso é novo para o casal recém-casado se mudar.
Depois de três meses, uma varanda frontal é acrescentada, simbolizando o fato de que o casamento foi bem-sucedido e a família está prestes a começar.
