I find these repurposing projects super fun and you can really end up with something quite unique. My Free Plans: paskmakes.com/free-plans/ Many of the awesome hand tools I used in this video, from Niroc tools can be found here www.niroc.com.au Use the code paskmakes to get free shipping
Yes, I find it worthwhile. First, it's useful to you and fills a need you had in your shop. Second, it's a wonderful example to others how to repurpose items, especially items that seem to have no other use. Mostly, this was entertaining. To watch you figure as you go was so much fun. Thanks, Neil, for another wonderful infrastructure video.
Heh heh - more importantly, it shows how you can clean up something that to all intents and purposes looks like it's probably useful for nothing but scrap metal and turn it into a respectable, utilitarian piece of workshop furniture 🌞 Not saying it involved a trivial amount of work though - because although it _looks_ easy and only took 20 minutes on screen, this was _not_ a minor undertaking!
You and Matthias Wandel have been really hitting the spot for me recently- it's not necessarily always about the big grandiose projects. I love seeing the creativity and unique style that comes out when a craftsman aims to accomplish a small or quirky task. The attention to detail is a pleasure to observe. Thanks Pask!
Definitely some of the best content in maker TH-cam, always something to learn in their videos, be it a technique or some insight on their workflow that really opens up your mind
Brotha, the amount of content that goes into one of your videos is so amazing. Just the mold for your logo could’ve been a whole standalone video. I always know that whenever I sit down to watch one of your videos I’m getting my moneys worth.
I love this kind of repurposing. I loved the repurposed bandsaw cabinet. I had a similar shelf like that I used for quick access tools. It had 2 lever knobs. It ended up being annoying having the 2 knobs. I eventually made the door hold closed with magnets, when you open and close a cabinet like that several times a day, it can get bothersome unlatching two knobs. Everything about your quick access storage needs to be as convenient as possible in my opinion.
Glad you enjoyed it! I have to tell you that even though the bandsaw cupboard has two knobs on each door, I only ever use one. I reckon this cabinet will be the same. :)
Neil, I am not a metal worker, or any type of maker. However, I have lost countless hours watching your excellent videos! Your down to earth commentary and obvious skill make the videos seem to fly by! It is clear that you get as much pleasure making these projects as we do watching them. I love when you say things like "The easy way to do this is (whatever)... But I prefer to make it myself just because I like it!!" You never seem to take the easy way out or take short cuts. You are also very encouraging to others, when you explain how a job can be done just as well with simple hand tools - you don't NEED all the big machines to get the same results. Thank you for all your work, and keep it up! Cheers!
Making neat things of the stuff we keep lying around is the best kind of project. Big projects expands our skill set and opens up more opportunities to just wing it on the smaller. Love to see more of you winging it 😉
Videos like this are awesome because they show people that almost anything can have a new life as something else. It also keeps something out of the bin (even the recycling bin). I was born in Africa and came to the UK when my grandparents and Mum decided to come home to the UK. In the Western world, if something breaks, it normally just gets dropped in a bin and people buy a new item to replace it. Thankfully people are finally learning from the developing nations that always try to fix things or turn them into something else. We're getting better at it, but we have so much further to go. Emagine a future where there are no more rubbish dumps or land fill sites? Where anything and everything can be fixed and everything that has finally reached the end of its many lives can be fully recycled. I'm hoping that I might see that day. It's videos like this that will help to push our world in that direction 😊👍👍👍👍👍
As always, I thoroughly enjoyed your video. What a practical and pleasant repurposing of an old part that most people would have just taken to the scrap yard. Thank you for sharing.
Very nice result! Remember that empty space also serves an important function in design. So I'd keep that space above the oil can empty... It balances the layout, imho.
What impresses me most is your ability to spend so much time on one basic item. I would have whipped something up in 1/2 the time but it would not have had the same style as your solution. I just can't dedicate that much time to a basic need. You really are an artist.
I call it first order recycling. The item basically never leaves service at all and wastes the least amount of fuel and energy getting recycled so its like the most efficient form. Awesome video and the final product turned out really great in my opinion.
Really miss your "Scrapwood. Challenge" and then you used scrap aluminum in this project! Excellent! So maybe you could start a new series called Scrap Alumimium or Scrap Metal Challenge?? You are one of the few persons that seem to be as comfortable working with wood as metal. Great work! Plus I enjoy your re-purpose work as well.
Hey mate, you could connect the two opening/closing knobs with a bracket to serve as a handle, so by pulling it down and backward it unscrews the locking mechanism and you could open the door easily.
I enjoy your videos, so many skills on display, with a low key delivery, really appreciated. A nicely made, useful item. My only comment would be that the logo isn't needed.
I think the logo and raised bars at the top and bottom would be cooler in Black, but regardless It's so awesome watching you reuse things for new purposes. Much love from Scotland.
I absolutely love watching your videos and look forward to every single one of them!!! This is a phenomenal cabinet and it was a blessing to watch you make it. Thank you for everything you share with us. You are a wonderful maker Sir! ONE LOVE!!!
I did a similar thing with an old oil barrel, it was for my painting stuff. I made shelves and hooks in the door an put Teak shelves in the body. Loved it Neil, yours looks so much better than mine 😅.
Now I’m looking around the garage for some old cool junk I’ve held onto for far too long 😅! Very nice!!! Love the rotating knobs!!! Reckon you’ll wish you only did one with a bit of everyday use…
Definitely worthwhile. You killed two birds with one stone - repurposed something that otherwise would have been scrapped, and improved the functioning of your milling shop. It was fun to watch you put this together.
amazing as always. I've got a while till I retire, but i think your shop will be what I model mine after. Gotta get the kids through college first and then move my shop out of the basement.
Some of my fondest memories of my first house and garage shop were the days that I spent doing projects like this one, repurposing things that I had for organizing and they brought the character that makes a shop feel special. Thanks for this video and a trip down memory lane!
10,000 yrs from now that cabinet will leave a future archeologist scratching his/her head 😂. Great job as always your creativity never fails to impress!
Another great job. Thank you for the video. Like you, I also like to re-purpose things rather than buy or build new when possible. It makes things interesting & keeps my mind working.
That's the kind of fabrication I love to see. I love the older green "machine" color but the patina is always appreciated in a machine shop, in my opinion. Excellent either way
Always an adventure - starting with "I'll just do this little thing" then 3-4 jobs later you ask yourself what was I doing again. Nice repurposing of materials. Had a niece give me a musical birthday card which she got a kick out of - in return I made a toy chest with a Greeting Card mechanism that plays music on opening. $8 on ebay & record whatever you like.
Love it neil. It goes extremely well with the rest of the cupboards you've made and gives the whole workshop a fabulous industrial feel. Brilliant video sir
Thanks for sharing, that turned out really great. And also thanks for sharing the "mistakes", it's always good to know, that no one is alone in not thinking their projects fully through. ;)
You're so cool. I was so excited when the mold pulled away clean and then got happier and happier as you added all the things towards the end. Definitely a worthwhile project.
Hey Mr. Pask! I spent my birthday today attending a carpentry basics workshop. I look forward to recreating some of your projects with some more practice!
Definitely like the repurposing/recycling projects and try to do the same myself whenever I can instead of sending more stuff to the landfill unnecessarily and the actual storage unit turned out great, personal logo just adds the last bit to it. Also thought I'd mention that it's cool to see the channel growing/changing now including more of the metal working side, but hoping the wood working doesn't disappear completely, not stagnating like a lot of other channels are because they've run out of ideas.
yessir it was a worthwhile build. using what you have with a bit of creativity means more fun time in the shop. i am sure there are reasons to buy that kinda stuff. however, i see these one off creations as a confident sign of craftsmanship whenever i get to see them. thank you for your years of inspirations Mr. Pask.
I find these repurposing projects super fun and you can really end up with something quite unique.

Also, it makes tools findable. The satisfaction of such utility is difficult to describe.
Thanks very much Vickie! I reckon it's going to be awesome having those tools organised in their own place. Glad you enjoyed it! :)

Nothing goes better with morning coffee than a pask makes video! Thank Sir.👍☮️
No worries- hope you enjoyed it! :)
No excess talk and absolutely no horrid music. Love your channel. All your builds are worthwhile.

Amazing Neil. Your projects are always so interesting to see. It's cool that you've ended up with such a useful and unique item.
Thanks very much - Glad you enjoyed it! :)
It never ceases to amaze me how creative you are and the vision of what can be created out of old forgotten items. Cheers!
Cath was sorting some stuff out and asked if she could throw it out. In that moment I had the idea for this. :)

I may have said this before. You are one of the finest craftsmen I have ever seen. Your attention to detail is on another level. Well done.
Not sure about that Stephen but thanks very much! :)
Always impressive. A place for everything and everything in its place. That's the way to do it.
Repurposing old stuff is why pallet wood projects are so popular.
I enjoy taking scraps and gluing them up to butcher blocks to use when I build.
It's always fun to make things from scrap. :)
Knobs and posts are brilliant. I know you didn’t invent this, but to think of it and take the time. One of the reasons you inspire and entertain me.
I really enjoyed those too Matt - they were fun to make. :)
I'm a bit surprised you didn't make your own oil can. Beautiful work as always, very well done!
I really like how this turned out - it's not just functional but it's quite lovely too.
Thank you! :)

Great project, Neil! In my opinion, it's always rewarding to see an item repurposed into something useful, rather than buying something new.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! :)
I call it first order recycling. The item basically never leaves service at all and wastes the least amount of fuel and energy getting recycled so its like the most efficient form. Awesome video and the final product turned out really great in my opinion.
Thanks very much Ryan! :)
What gets me is the work you put into finishing your projects. I get to the point where the thing is functional and then all work grinds to a halt! :)
At least you're out there making stuff - that's a good thing! :)
15:06 Something as simple as the cinematography on this shot is so satisfying for some reason
Really miss your "Scrapwood. Challenge" and then you used scrap aluminum in this project! Excellent! So maybe you could start a new series called Scrap Alumimium or Scrap Metal Challenge?? love watching how you re-purpose old items instead of just tossing them and making new
Hey mate, you could connect the two opening/closing knobs with a bracket to serve as a handle, so by pulling it down and backward it unscrews the locking mechanism and you could open the door easily.
The knobs are probably a bit small for that but a cool idea. I have to tell you that I'll only use one knob, the other will be just for show. :)
Upcycling projects are some of my favourite to watch, & that’s especially true when you are the craftsman doing it!
Thanks very much! :)
I enjoy your videos, so many skills on display, with a low key delivery, really appreciated. A nicely made, useful item. My only comment would be that the logo isn't needed.
Your projects are ALL "worthwhile". Thank you!

Fantastic work. I love it when my tools have special places to live and it's even better if those places are convenient to where they get used!
Some of my fondest memories of my first house and garage shop were the days that I spent doing projects like this one, repurposing things that I had for organizing and they brought the character that makes a shop feel special. Thanks for this video and a trip down memory lane!

Another great job. Thank you for the video. Like you, I also like to re-purpose things rather than buy or build new when possible. It makes things interesting & keeps my mind working.
Brilliant idea, it's got me thinking about using an old metal toolbox on the wall for all my different drill bits
That's the kind of fabrication I love to see. I love the older green "machine" color but the patina is always appreciated in a machine shop, in my opinion. Excellent either way

Was it a worthwhile project? 🤔 Hell yes!!! Outstanding in every way. 👏👏👍😀
Any project that gives you pleasure is a “worthwhile project”
Really love repurposing and the JB weld stamping is an awesome idea
Wow what an amazing job. Your skill level and your imagination is on another level. I was glued to the screen watching you work..
Love it neil. It goes extremely well with the rest of the cupboards you've made and gives the whole workshop a fabulous industrial feel. Brilliant video sir
Thanks Ian - the workshop is slowly coming together! :)
Love this lil cabinet, it is just cute and fits all its tools so perfectly
Great use of old "stuff". That's my favorite thing to do is repurpose old items into useful things like you did with the guard.
That'll come in handy. Very efficient. It is quite handsome too. Nice workmanship. The logo for the artisan touch.
Thanks for sharing, that turned out really great. And also thanks for sharing the "mistakes", it's always good to know, that no one is alone in not thinking their projects fully through. ;)
That is a fantastic piece of work, love to see you re-using old stuff that would otherwise be scrapped
You are my favorite maker. I love watching your repurposing and in-process problem solving.
Thanks very much Susan - Glad you enjoyed it! :)
Sending you my best wishes for a speedy recovery from the UK
Absolutely gorgeous. A real sweet mini cabinet.
Great work. I always get excited when I see your videos pop-up in my feed. Thanks.
Super clever idea, wonderful execution! YES, REPURPOSING IS COOL! Thank you for sharing.
You always make such cool stuff and your process is always so good. You're honest and inspiring
Great job. Any origanization of tools is always a good thing.
Great little cabinet; practical and stylish, the essence of good design. Thank you.
You're so cool. I was so excited when the mold pulled away clean and then got happier and happier as you added all the things towards the end. Definitely a worthwhile project.
I love repurposing projects and you Sir made it even more fun and inspiring. Please make more repurposing projects in the near future. Thanks.
Great work with the JB WELD! Now you helped give me a few ideas.
Great job working through both the design process & fabricating
Glad i stayed up til 2am (NSW), cos this popped up. Nice end to the day! Love watching your videos, theyre so relaxing.
Hey Mr. Pask! I spent my birthday today attending a carpentry basics workshop. I look forward to recreating some of your projects with some more practice!
Another great project, I particularly liked casting your logo with JB Weld very clever idea, something I need to write down in my shop notebook.
Very cool! I loved your idea of using JB Weld for casting your logo. I hadn't thought of using JB for that and I'll keep it in mind for sure.
That is so very nice ! You always do such nice work !!!! TAKE CARE !!!!!!! 🥰
i love your style of "classic looking" shop projects, they are always an inspiration, i wish i had enough space to make them all
Aside from the functionality of it, it's a great looking piece for the wall!
Pask, I love the attitude you have when attacking a project: “I’ll buy a 40 mm wrench or, hell, make it.”
Really amazing work, Neil! It looks fantastic! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
One of my main inspirations to try making things and start a channel!! Thanks Pask!
Your jb weld logo / impression technique is stupidly brilliant 😍
You really are an amazing craftsman with so many freaking skills!!! Well done on the repurpose project; looks great!
That looks magnificent! So handy and stylish, clean and comfy 💜
Always enjoy your videos. I don't work with metal, but I'm still able to take away an idea or design that I can use with wood. Great video.
Great idea, and fantastic workmanship as always, Neil!
The color you chose for the inside leveled up an already cool project. The whole thing is classy!
Of course it’s worthwhile!
It’s just a pleasure to watch you work
The attention to detail is unbelievable!
I always am amazed and inspired when I see your projects!
Thoroughly worthwhile as always
Awesome job! I really like the way you saw potential in a discarded object. -Rick, USMC
Really really nice , excellent craftsmanship , thank you for filming it . Kind regards Brian
I let out an audible groan with you showed the fly press jig.
The cabinet looks awesome, but not surprising when it's made by a super skilled craftsman
yessir it was a worthwhile build. using what you have with a bit of creativity means more fun time in the shop. i am sure there are reasons to buy that kinda stuff. however, i see these one off creations as a confident sign of craftsmanship whenever i get to see them. thank you for your years of inspirations Mr. Pask.
Something new from something old - very nice!!!
Yes indeed. It was quite worthwhile. Good job.
Absolute knockout! fantastic…happy st Patrick’s day from Dublin Neal!🇮🇪
I think it's great, Neil. It's a bonus anytime you can make something useful like this and have fun doing it.
Bill
I'm always impressed by your machinist skills Neil, that's a nice way to repurpose that cabinet.
