    The need for SPEED!
    In this video I'm gonna try to beat my personal best speed windfoiling.
    It will not be easy because it's a personal best, which basically means that I've never gone faster before, but that doesn't mean it can't be done.
    If you want to know if i've beaten my personal best and how I approached this quest for speed, watch the video.
    Have fun, let me know what you think and.....

    Hey great video! lots of good details about how to push for max speed on windsurf foil. I knew tuning all the components was important - I appreciate your great description of just what to tune for.
    My current top speed is 44.4 KPH, set with a Sabfoil 671 front wing and a 6.0 freerace sail. I have since switched to F4 foils and find their components much stiffer and easier (and safer) to ride at high speed. Now I just need to get the smaller front wings and look for the right conditions - would love to get to 48 KPH without hurting myself in the process. I have had some brutal crashes.

      Thank you! It's always good to hear that it's of any help.
      I love my @f4foils as they are really stable and fast and they will definitively help you reach higher speeds with more confidence and hopefully without hurting yourself.
      Reaching 48 km/hr is possible with the F4 850/210 freerace as well (at least it worked for me), but it's absolutely so much easier with the 620/210.
      Changing from relaxed cruising on the foil to speedfoiling requires a few adaptations and a lot of practice.
      In the "FASTER" series I'll show you if I reached my goal and if I did I'll tell you how I did it.
      But be careful there as windfoiling must stay safe and fun and is not supposed to result in injuries.
      Only go for speed if you are fully aware of the risks and are willing to accept the consequences, otherwise.... don't do it!!!

      This winter I expect to do some equipment testing.
      It's actually one of the reasons why I switched sponsor to www.vandenbergsurf.nl this year as they can provide me with all the new windsurf, windfoil and wingfoil equipment for testing.

    Nice to hear that you're trying again.
    I would like to ask you about your gloves and board. Do these gloves not hinder holding the boom? Wouldn't ones with a hole for the hand be better? I'm planning to buy something for winter, and I don't know what.
    Would there also be a chance to break speed records on freefoil boards like JP 115-130 liters, or are they not suitable for that?

    • @Windsurfcoach
      @Windsurfcoach  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Michal,
      The gloves I use in this video ARE open palm mittens and they are great for windsurfing and windfoiling.
      For me they work till 6-7 degrees, below 6 deg I like to use the full mittens but work best for wingfoiling and aren't the best for windfoiling and windsurfing as they are tiring on the forearms.
      The Freefoil isn't designed to be a real speed demon, but with the right foil it can be pretty fast.
      If you are looking for speed, freeride and JP the Hydrofoil will do the job.

    This was cool, I like your analysis of what's going on onboard. I'm still trying to break 23kts on my foil gear, but I'm often on a 9.0 and 900, 725, or 650 wing. I'm also a bit heavier than you at 90kg

    • @Windsurfcoach
      @Windsurfcoach  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you!
      Control will be everything in reaching your goals.
      If your setup isn't stable it's pretty hard to go fast.
      I would first try to perfect the setup for the 9.0 / 900 until you've broken the 23kts barrier and take it from there to whatever you want to.
      What really helps a lot is using those longer harness lines to make sure you gear will stay upright in stronger winds (of course in lighter winds you need shorter ones so make sure you'll have the adjustable ones.
      Have fun chasing your goals and..

    @windsurfcoach what are the wind conditions (how many knots) you were flying in that day and what is your weight? Does the 81 board match those 2 the best or will you be flying on a bigger board in other conditions?

    • @Windsurfcoach
      @Windsurfcoach  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi Reinhout,
      The wind was gusty as it always is at my homespot surrounded by trees and the wind was ranging from 12 to 22kts in the gusts.
      The gust were often not strong enough and not long enough to accelerate to high speeds that day.
      I'm a pretty light guy (around 65kg) and the 81 wide is just perfect for the 620/560 front wings.
      The 420 works but it would be better to have a 71 or a 75 cm wide board for that.
      I use the board for 850/720/620/560/420.
      The 850 is the limit and it would be better to switch to a 85 or 91 wide.

    Hi. How do you go upwind on slalom foil. Im new on foiling and i have slalom foil aswell but im strugling to go upwind. Can you give an advice or make video about it :)?

    • @Windsurfcoach
      @Windsurfcoach  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi Justilis,
      it's true that it's harder to track upwind with slalom foils compared to freerace or freeride foils, but it can be done.
      Every foil has his own window in which it operates with optimum efficiency.
      The slalom foils are pretty small 700 cm2 (frontwing) or smaller and very thin to give them the least amount of drag at high speed so they are fast!
      The downside of these thin and tiny foils is that they only work properly at high speed.
      The smaller and thinner the foil the faster it must go in order to provide enough lift to go upwind.
      Also small foils like smaller sails and more wind.
      So yes they are fantastic and fast, but when new to foiling it might be easier to start with a freerace or freeride foil depending on your experience in the other windsports.
      Depending on the foil brand you could add an extra (freerace) front wing to your quiver.
      These are bigger and more forgiving and easier to go upwind even in lower wind conditions.
      See you on the water.

    • @Windsurfcoach
      @Windsurfcoach  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi @@justelis5179 ,
      I remember that one!
      It was far ahead of it's time and very fast but also pretty unstable due to the short fuselage.
      The modern foils are way easier, bur if you want to stick to that one you could increase the angle of the back wing to increase the lift which makes it easier to go upwind.
      Besides that tilt the board with the upwind rail low by increasing pressure on the board with your heels.
      A flatter profile in your sail will also help to make it easier to go upwind.
      Foil sails need to be flatter in profile anyway compared to fin slalom sails due to the apparent wind.
      (you are going faster in lighter winds)
      Back foot in or out of the straps doesn't matter that much except for that it will make it a bit easier to rail (tilt) the board.
      Have fun practicing and....
      See you on the water!

      Wise decision.
      Just stick to the bigger one for now until you're completely comfortable and want to go faster.
      The learning curve on the bigger front wings is just way steeper.

      race small
