I made this video in efforts to save people time and money in diagnosing and fixing a no-start problem caused by a broken crankshaft position sensor (CPS).
Feel free to ask extra questions in the comment section!
This video was made for entertainment purposes only: I'm not a mechanic so it's quite possible some or all of this advice is bad. That said, a mechanic checked the job over whilst fixing a different problem (exup valve again...*sigh*) and he believed the job to be fine. Even so, I am not responsible for you mis-diagnosing the problem or/and damaging your bike, property, yourself or other people as a result of a lack of skills or knowledge. Or just incompetence. Or stupidity :) Actually, don't even attempt this if you're stupid. I wrote that on a laboratory risk assessment once, nobody called me out on it.
Just replaced my cps on my 2009 675r Daytona followed your video it was a cake walk , I had to replace my rectifier regulator few months ago also bike runs great again thanks for the video
I had this exact issue!!!!! Your video Helped me out quite a bit! The cleaning took longer than the actual repair and that gasket was a pain to remove. Didn't get to enjoy the beer but I did get to ride the beast once again! Thank you :D
Exactly what I needed! No bullshit, just information. Thanks mate
This video saved me hundreds thanks brotha
No worries bro. Ride safe :)
Dagny & Gman Hi there, my daytona always fails me. the issue that I was told is the stator coil not charging. not even 3 months after I change a new coil it happens again. do you face this too?
Quick question, how did you manage to line up the cover and the fly wheel? My flywheel kept getting bumped because the bottom of the cover would get pulled in from the magnet and then bump the little gear out of place and I ended up breaking my gasket pulling it back off... plz send help
Just did that, and it worked. thanks.
great vid! helped me a lot just changed mine. Thanks for posting....
What kind of threadlock and silicon to use? I cant find something thats high heat and oil resistant, and what kind of silicone?
Any recommendations for the solvent to use when cleaning the inside of the stator cover?
awesome video bro, helped heaps
Have you ever had to do the Breather valve seal I need The Replacements and never done it before don't even know what I'm looking for any advice would be good thank you in advance
Don’t know if you’ll get to this but I’m not sure if it’s my stator that needs replacing. Thought it was the battery being dead as I haven’t been able to ride due to the covid going on but I charged it went to turn on the bike it turns over but never turns on after that if I go to try to turn the bike on it just makes a clicking noise. Would that mean the stator needs replacing?
955i speedtriple showing same symptoms flickering dash display on last ride got home but now won't start
Why you have changed stator? If you change only sensor the problem wasn’t solve?!
does the tank have to come down?
What brand stator did you buy? I've tried Ricks Motorsports and Caltric ones and their wiring harness doesn't fit nicely under the bracket...
I bought this from Electrex (UK) but I also had trouble getting the wires under, it took a lot of fiddly rearrangement and holding the bracket down whilst I screwed it in. Think I also trimmed the protector cuff back a bit. Best of luck!
I have simmilar problem. When i try start my Daytona 600 when it is hot sounds like that. When cold, starts normal without any problem. On this video u try to start cold or warm engine? u can check my video on my profil with my bike
Did you have to put any type of sealant on the rubber grommet and/or the gasket?
Gasket: no. Grommet: yes. I used the Threebond 1215; some say it's not necessary, but I prefer to be safe. Best of luck!
Nice video, thanks
I have already replaced the R/R on my Speed Triple as the Triumph garage said it had gone, but looking at TH-cam vids there is no charge coming from the Stator, so needs replacing
Thanks!! Sorry to hear of your problems, I'm not expert at all and I don't own a 1080, but be sure to check that the battery doesn't charge whilst the engine is running -- i.e. if battery voltage doesn't raise to ~13--14V whilst revving the engine then this may indicate a borked stator -- be sure to check TriumphRAT for forum topics. R/R tend to break on high-performance bikes a regular occurrence, but best to check that it's not just a simple battery fault first! Ideally replacing the stator should be very simple on any inline engine bike. Hope this helps -- Gman :)
Help! Starting issues. Spliced a new cps from ricks but still no dice. It only started once for 3 seconds and died. And that was random after trying to start it multiple times. We read 212olhms steady on the multimeter for the cps. Perhaps we soldered the wires wrong? One thing to note my power commander is flashing the status light, when it started it shut off. Any ideas on whats going on? Ps my stator looked like yours slightly darker brown on one side. Guna ty a multitude of things today. Jump starting it, bump start, disconnect PC, re solder the CPS wires, testing more fuses. If anyone has any input please chime in. Thanks
Also, i keep the bike on a tender so i never noticed any discharging problems if any. The bike is 2009 with 11k mi
Nice video. I got oil in the stator box. is that normal? sorry for my bad english.
Yup that's normal :)
uh which bolt had the copper washer?
Hey bro sry for late reply. @0.37s, 2nd from the right. In reality, it doesn't make jack dick difference :) Spoken to 2x triumph-trained mechanics and neither have the faintest clue why the washer goes there; nothing to do with the bracket, apparently. If anyone knows, actually, please post as I am curious :)
This might sound stupid but do I need to take out my oil before doing this?
yes, you do
I got a Street Triple........same engine, and I have removed the alternator cover a few times and only lost a tiny amount of oil.
