    Hi Jen, just a little side note on Babel. As a fantasy reader, I would not classify it as such, but rather literary fiction with a fantastical element. I wasn't a fan but can appreciate the commentary on academia, colonization, translation, race and so forth. 🌈🌹🤓

      The commentary is what makes me think I might pick it up. We'll see ☺️ x

      Is that what it was? I had no idea, not being English.

      @jenvcampbell  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it's the dramatic music they play at the end of the episode, normally on a cliffhanger.

    I also really enjoyed Yellowface! I picked up Babel right after. I'd say Babel has some fantasy elements, but the emphasis is more on colonisation, translation, and the British empire in Victorian times. There's some magic in there but it's definitely not high fantasy. So perhaps it might suit your fancy after all. 😊
    Have a good week Jen!

    Hi Jen, loved this vid! I’ve recently graduated, yay! and so I’ve finally got time to read. So far I’ve read Lowborn by Kerry Hudson, Autumn by Ali Smith and I’m about half way through Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro. So happy to have time to read for myself!

    Recently finished an audiobook called "The Secret of Haven Point" by Lisette Auton which centres on a lot of young disabled characters but shows them in such a nice light. I think it's a children's book but not sure which age range.
    As a non disabled adult, I really enjoyed it and shows how each side of the fence can react to one another in both a good and bad perspective. Think you'd enjoy it

    I adored Yellowface! I loved the audiobook so much that I got a copy of the HB too.
    Thanks for turning me on to Tim Logan’s books! I started with The Curfew and just finished Trust Me last week. I thought Trust Me was even better than The Curfew. I’ve got The Catch on the way from the UK and I’ll be listening to his other books after the 15th as they become available on Scribd. These aren’t books that are going to stay with me for long, but I consider him a new favorite thriller writer.

    Hi Jen really interested in the Logan and Craven books. Wanted2 read a crime novel but was diverted by a book brought in by a customer: The Gathering by Anne Enright. Seems v much a Maggie O' Farell or Marion Keyes Irish family novel without the humour. Must read on.

    If you like books about language and translation I wonder if you may enjoy La Tercera by Gina Apostol. I have mixed feelings about that one, as the writing was quite repetitive, but it deals a lot with translation and the intersection of languages in the Phillipines

    I'm currently reading a mystery/suspense, Long Bright River by Liz Moore. I'm enjoying it so far, which is a relief after a couple DNFs: Razorblade Tears by S.A. Cosby (I so wanted to love this crime book but found the writing cringy) and Bunny by Mona Awad (I was enjoying some of the bizareness but it was too much after a while)
