Omg this is so so good!!! I always appreciated the subtlety of their friendship and you portrayed that perfectly here. That scene where Seth says the bagels are stale was always one of my favorite Seth/Marissa moments lol
you could legit teach a class on how to vid a ship with so few "meaty" canon scenes and make someone come away from it thinking that the ship was a main focus of the show. like how did you make me ship these two so intensely in these 3 mins?!? i mean i've always enjoyed the few scenes we got of them, but my main AU OC ship was ryan/summer. but now i may need to rethink that... damn girl this was phenomenal. i started writing down all the moments i wanted to point out in this and then realized it was practically the entire thing. even just within 1:30-1:48, you included so many small looks that just felt so big watching this. and then around 2:27 when the music starts swelling and you tee up the iconic pier scene, as if the whole vid was building to that moment, ugh just perfect. loved loved loved this (in case you couldn't tell)
omggg, so first off, the editing and the flow of the video, so perfect and on point! 😍 such a good eye for the similarities, like the 2:49 - 2:52 the little lean forward he does, wow!! and the whole "i know what you're going through right now" parallels part, so so good! and for some reason a real fave part was also the 2:40 - 2:45 one, haha? perfectly put together. i really really enjoyed it in a friendship-y way, because i have to say, one of the things that stood out about this show imo was that they set up the couples and stuck to that, which made not only the couples buuut also the seth/ryan, summer/marissa and the whole fantastic four friendships actually believable and genuine. i don't think that any other show managed that? and i will just always appreciate the non-problematic ship-wars-free experience of this show, lol. ❤ (that being said, on a different show, i'd probably ship it 😂🤷♀️)
This is so amazing and wonderfully put together! I've been actually rewatching the show along with the podcast these past few weeks and I noticed so many moments between these two: early season 1 was the best for them and I wished the writers had kept up with that in actually showing their friendship on screen (also, I'm a sucker for romantic Ryan/Summer, so I'm always looking at subtle moments between AU couples that never would have happened :(). And Seth having a crush on the girl next door (and the daughter of his mother's young great love)?? Would have made total sense, definitely more than SS did!

AND I’m so glad you brought up jimmy/kirsten because weirdly enough I always pictured seth/marissa having a similar dynamic as adults where they had a lot of history together but were always there to support / bail each other out. I remember loving ryan/summer when I was younger too - their scene in 2x02 still sticks out as being so adorable. I respect canon but it just gets boring sometimes lmao and au shipping is just so fun! watching shows becomes infinitely more enjoyable when you have a rare pair to root for & subtle moments, like you said, to look out for.

Secondly, although I love Seth/Summer, I've always loved the idea of Seth/Marissa and shipped them since the pilot. I'm not ashamed to admit it. I felt there was so much potential that could've been explored. The classic "next door neighbors since childhood" trope is a prime example for a potential slow burn. In many ways, I felt they made the most sense. If there was ever a perfect set-up where the writers could've explored something more down the road, it would've been the iconic pier scene. Lastly, did Rachel Bilson really said that on the podcast about Seth and Marissa? OMG, I love her even more for putting it out there. The way I'm forever shipping underrated, or non-canon pairings on any show I've ever watched. *cries a bucket of tears*

I always thought it was a shame that there were hardly any scenes between Marissa and Seth, they weren't even really friends throughout the show, they only inevitably spent time together because she was with Ryan and he was with Summer but otherwise they had nothing to do with each other except being neighbors (in season 1).
i actually feel like both of these characters as individuals were killed after season 2. notice how everyone only used seth scenes from s1 and 2 to edit him.
