These days, the old post office is a bar and music venue, aptly now called "The Old Post Office". Prior to that, it has been home to a comedy club, an art gallery with studio pottery makers, plus 2 other pub/bar ventures, over the last 16 years. The former NatWest building isn't owned by the city council, so they have no control over the weeds growing on the roof area. Bournes Sports was in that big shop, opposite Sapphire restaurant. There used to be Dewhursts butchers shop, next door but one to the market entrance on Queen Street. The whole block where Boots used to be, in privately owned, so not under council control. Almost all of the dilapidated buildings are privately owned, which is a shame. The council has stepped in to take enforcement action against some owners, where safety is a concern, but other than that, the council is limited in what can be done. The trophy shop moved from the corner of Nile Street, to a few doors down on Nile Street.
I can remember in the 80s, opposite the leopard there was toilets, they flattened this area, also down the side in swan bank, there was toilets down some steps, it's not changed alot, also at the back of the town hall, there was a takeaway of some kind before kfc, I remember getting a burger from there, can't remember what it was called, used to go there at weekends
The ally way that leads from Brickhouse Street to Market Place in Burslem. It gained the nickname 'Cock’s Entry' during the nineteenth century when the 'sport' of cockfighting was a popular pastime.
The large building on the crossroads next the pub was Josiah Wedgwood house nicknamed The big house.
