  • Jefferson didn't believe in miracles, but he did believe in the teachings of Jesus Christ. His biblical compilation played down the supernatural while highlighting moral teachings for a modern world.

"Jefferson's Bible", the one that excises all the distortions added by the Romans and fills in the clarity of the sovereignty of Jesus as the example of individual love vs. group or collective hate. And they say he was an atheist, if they only knew. Guess who twisted and added all the miracles, those in power, they wanted people to identify them and their government with the "miracles" as a way to confuse the public about Jesus' real message vs. what the Romans wanted people to think.

If you’re talking about the 1804 bible, it was all the words written in red to give to the Indians. The 1820s Bible was a collection of 80 something moral teachings of Jesus. Nothing more, nothing less

I mean sure but that would include all of the rich history related to the Bible too would it not? Like Yahweh being a Canaanite god who eventually became who we know now and how originally the followers of Yahweh and it’s religion was Henotheistic which I guess some of that remains in bibles although council of gods and other mentions of multiple beings is now attributed to Angels

Ras J all of you guys are idiots. He was a Christian deist, not atheist not agnostic not anti-Christian. He calls himself “Christian” multiple times in “The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth”, because he believed in the moral and philosophical teachings of Jesus, but rejected the divinity of Jesus, as do I, because almost everything that orthodox Christians say he did corrupts and perverts the morality of him, and does not abide by any natural law, and nobody today is doing anything that Jesus “did”.

  • @onebadboy2

Boloney, Thomas Jefferson didn’t believe as the Smithsonian claims. He created a 1804 pamphlet for the Indians that included a chronological story of Jesus’ like that included all the miracles, resurrection, everything. The 1820 collection of 81 moral codes to live by wasn’t his attempt to remove the miracles, but to list the moral principles that Americans should live by, this it was called the collection of morals. Come on, this is easy stuff and they want to politicize this issue to destroy or attempt to discredit an important conservative and God loving founder.

      Letter to William Short (1820):
"Among the sayings & discourses imputed to him by his biographers, I find many passages of fine imagination, correct morality, and of the most lovely benevolence: and others again of so much ignorance, so much absurdity, so much untruth, charlatanism, and imposture, as to pronounce it impossible that such contradictions should have proceeded from the same being. I separate therefore the gold from the dross; restore to him the former, & leave the latter to the stupidity of some, and roguery of others of his disciples. Of this band of dupes and impostors, Paul was the great Coryphaeus, and first corrupter of the doctrines of Jesus. These palpable interpolations and falsifications of his doctrines led me to try to sift them apart."

Imagine thinking Jefferson was a conservative! Jefferson was one of the most radical of the Founding Fathers in his desire to alter society, the very antithesis of conservatism. Jefferson supported public education, a very controversial idea during his lifetime. He grew up in a world where practically every country was a theocracy, yet cited establishing religious freedom in Virginia as one of his 3 main accomplishments. He literally wanted to abolish all hierarchy.

Jesus without the supernatural is an arrogant guy who speaks non-sequittors. If Jesus wasn't the son of God who came to die to take the wrath we deserve, then he is just a nut.

They want to paint Jefferson as a "petersonian" atheist, one who only pretends to believe in God because of the results. This is because the Smithsonian is run by those kinds of people. Notice how they never discuss how Jefferson believed Paul the Apostle to be a corruptor of Christianity.

Take the supernatural out of the Gospel and you have no Gospel....All you have a is a good man saying some good things.....and that cannot save anyone.....You have to know that Jesus was God himself for you to be saved.....The ressurection of Christ is the very thing that keeps Christians going and hoping for Jesus to come back....Take that out and folks wont be motivated to live this Christians lifestyle.

+judgmental 84 I will agree that taking out the supposed miracles does diminish the bible a bit. all that you are left with after that is bigotry violence and a warped sense of morality. On the plus side, it shows that Jefferson was on the right track. He was one of the few people of his time that didn't think like a sheep. I have confidence that after he eliminated all the magic, he realized how ugly the so called "morality" of the Bible was. If you want to break free of the dogma of the bible, read it. Then all you have to do is think critically about what you've read. you will quickly realize how backwards and hypocritical it all is. For instance. Jesus says that you need to love him more than your mother and father and more than you own kids, otherwise you are not worthy of his love. ( Matthew 10 : 37) also apparently women are supposed to sleep outside during their period (Leviticus 15:19-33) and call their husbands master (1 Peter 3:5-6) further more the world is flat un-moving and the universe was made for little old us to enjoy... or more accurately, us men, because God has a penis for some reason, and woman are just the stuff of our rib for us to use and exploit. You're right though, the bible is sooo much better if you leave the miracles in it.
