- Today, on LCD Longplay, we play through the 1989 Konami release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
CONTROLS
Besides the directional pad, the handheld has two other action buttons for use in the game.
Which LCD game would you like to see played through next?

Oh the memories... i cried when my dad gave me this in the early 90s, i was a tmnt fanatic but we were poor and i didn't have a game console, getting this for my birthday felt the same as a kid getting a PS5 now. It doesn't work anymore but i still have it and i keep it as a priceless treasure.
If you had this in your book bag, you ruled the school bus! I still have mine.
That's awesome! I never had this one as a kid, but I did have the first 2 TMNT Game Boy games which I played to death. I found a green one of these at Savers that was face down on a shelf. I immediately assumed that it was TMNT and got really excited only to flip it over and see that it was Contra...
Hey, I didn’t make the rules. That’s how it was in the 80s.
the kids at school would light this thing on fire if you brought it
after they beat you up
32 years ago, I was 10 and my mom got me this game. My first ever game. Thanks for this. 😢
Amazing just to see that again. The feeling I got from watching this was great, thank you.
I'm already 41 .. but thanks for this video, i'm 9 years old again.
I remember getting this from my mom in the promise to get my self an surgery (had a severe tonsillitis). Played it all day after the surgery. Now my mom is gone and I find this video and have all the memories she sleeping beside my bed all week in the hospital. I miss her so much :/
This video catapulted me back to 7 years old. I'm 39 now. Thanks so much!
This is a core memory as a kid. I had this, Turtles 2, and so many Tiger handhelds. I was glued to these on road trips until my parents bought me a Gameboy.
You know what's really sad? Years ago, I saved up some money to get a Goemon (Legend of the Mystical Ninja) LCD game that came from Japan. It turned out that the game was just this, reskinned with different characters. They didn't even bother to change the TMNT music! Augh!
The music popped into my head randomly the other day, which brought me here!! I remember being about 7-8 years old and having the time of my life with this game. Thanks for the upload and the memories - definitely took me back 🙌🙌
Got this for my 10th birthday in 89. Haven’t seen it for years. Thanks for uploading.
This was actually a good lcd game. I got it when I was so young though that I wondered where the second level was.
I agree. These Konami handhelds weren't half bad. They knew what they were doing, Tiger didn't.
one of my childhood memories
I Once Had TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES 3: SHREDDER'S LAST STAND
I spent hours with that thing when I was a kid. Completing it felt like such an achievement but it can be finished in minutes lol
I remember getting this game for my bday. Countless hours spent on this!
This was the first "video game" I ever got. I think I was maybe 4 when I received it for Christmas
This is amazing. I feel like I’m 10 again.
Totally Bodacious Play through, Dude!
I remember my mate had this when was 8 I was wow 😲 if you ever find this Chris what a childhood we had mate
Got this for my birthday as a kid. Like many others, I didn't have an NES, SNES or Megadrive at the time so this is how I got my gaming fix 😂. Crazy how far we've come but this still looks amazing in its own way
Just finished watching all your live video game hunting videos! I go game hunting at thrift stores and vintage stores like 3 times a week. I finally hit up a flea market and found some goodies!
I hope you enjoyed the videos! Great to hear that you're getting out there and hunting! What did you find?
@@GettingYourNerdOn some cib gameboy advance games, cib sega génesis games, and splatoon!
I Go Game Hunting at Flea Markets and on EBay
Wow my little brother had this game but I spent more time playing it, it came out at a time when TMNT were big business. Thanks for the memories
Thank you so much for uploading this - nostalgia overload! I remember queuing up in Argos one Saturday morning in (probably) 1990 to buy this. I would have been 12. Loved the game LOL Cowabunga!
Im 42 years old remember a friend having this, i thought he was a G at the time cos there was no way my parents would dream of wasting money on these. Was levels above the other handhelds we had at the time.
THANK YU
i knew it was a matter of time this would show up on TH-cam! i checked like 6 years ago and there was only 1 video related to this! lol perfect Vid Thx Again
i had this & never Beat it.. frustrating i remember but felt good to rescue! haha crazy to hear the tunes & sounds again!

My dude... My inner child thanks you so much.
Collecting matters, preservation. I had a TMNT3, Megaman 3, and Top Gun IIRC. Favorite was 1988 Tiger Baseball.
Also had Altered Beast wristwatch Tiger game.
Always thought they had April chained to a tire, lol. Good times
For an LCD game this was pretty fun. Would love to know what sorcery allowed for gameplay capture of an LCD game. To the internet I go!
Yea, it's one of my favorites. I play these games in MAME and then record them using OBS. Feel free to send me an email if you need help setting anything up.
oh my god i owned this and a NASCAR one as a kid; it's so surreal seeing this so up close xD
My childhood right here…
I used to have this as a kid! And another turtle one
I've not seen this in a LONG time !
😮😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰🥰
Que de souvenirs d enfance
Merci
Amazing image quality! Thanks for uploading this!
I remember thinking that this had a bootleg instrumental of Grandmaster Flash The Message, it does sound a little bit like it
retro gaming at it's peak
This was the very last LCD game I ever got. I got it around Halloween 1989. Two months later I got a Game Boy for Christmas and had no interest in LCD games anymore.
Loved this when I was a kid
Ha. I forgot about this. Thank you
Just bought one in great condition for 5$
Great video, thanks!
The first game related... anything, I ever owned ❤
Had this and loved it. Would max out the points
Two things I don't get about this game: 1. It's possible to blow up April and trigger a Game Over while setting the bomb in modes 2 and 3, as I just did in my latest play of it (lol). The game's instructions hint at this, but don't explain the bomb setting mechanic at all. Is it random, or do the controls do something while you're setting the bombs?
2. In modes 2 and 3, when getting to the Freedom Key icon, it triggers a mini-game where you have to select among three boxes that appear on the lower left of the screen. Presumably, where the key is might be random, and selecting the wrong box can kill you, though this hasn't happened to me yet (I rarely ever get that far in the game). Is it actually random, or does the same box hold the key every time? And can it actually kill you, or is it just to wear down your breath timer underwater? This sequence seems to be omitted from this emulated version.
Oddly, I probably think about this fact every month or so! Bugs me too!
Yes you can blow up April. Happened a few times to me as a kid. I never understood the bomb setting mechanic either. Also the mini game for the key is random too. I believe it’s always in a different box and it’ll take away your breath timer if you pick wrong. Also, there is a message April will scream “Help Me!” I have only ever got this to appear as a kid playing this game a few times. I recently bought this game on ebay a few years ago and still cannot get this message to display.
There was something wrong with my game where if you played game 2 or 3, it would freeze when you got the key
I have this one and the TMNT Basketball game.. #TURTLEPOWER
Well done!
Thank you bro!
Love these
I love making them! I have about 15 more to play through :)
COWABUNGA!!
Thank you 😊
Funny how nostalgia makes you like things that are quite frankly terrible. As I didn't play this as a child, this one did not give me a raging nerdon 😋.
I had this as a kid but my older brother broke it...
the insanity of watching this in 2023
It gets a mention in the Cowabunga Collection. I thought it might be hidden somewhere, but I don't think it is. Whomp Whomp
@@GettingYourNerdOn kinda disappointing tbh, also I'd buy a tiger formfactor all-in-one with a cheap lcd screen and the cowabunga collection on it, actually tempting to try whipping one together
I don't understand, how does emulation work with these type of games??
They have scanned the images, which is quite impressive. I don’t know how they have done the game logic and sounds. Could very well be a remake.
It sorely needed some coloured sprites and or relatable Master Splinter to give the Mutant Overgrown Ninja Turtles.... not trying to be sarcastic just opinionated. 🤦♂️🤠🐢🐀
How do you record this ?
MAME and OBS. Feel free to send an e-mail if you want help setting anything up.
how was this recorded?
MAME and OBS
emulator name plz 😢
These are done in MAME. Some of the games can be played right in your web browser. You can check the description to see if there is a link for them. Feel free to send me an e-mail (also in the description) if you need help obtaining or running any ROM files.
When I was a kid I thought this was cool but growing up I am really disappointed. Turtles Basketball was way better
I was surprised with how quickly this can be beaten when you know what's going on in it. Normally, I just play through the game once, for these videos, even if there is a second mode, but this one is so quick I was able to do all 3 modes and it is still the shortest video in the entire series. I've been looking for the other TMNT games but, I haven't found any yet.
@@GettingYourNerdOn Could you demonstrate some gameplay that shows the Game Over sequence when the bombs are wrongly placed around April? I could never find any instructions on the bomb placement, and sometimes poor April gets blown up when you do it wrong.
I can probably make whatever you're looking for. What exactly did you have in mind?
@@GettingYourNerdOn Essentially, failing to properly set the bomb around April's tube. I think the game gives you a limited numbers of chances to "press the correct button or directional arrow" once you reach the tube with a bomb. Sometimes a sound effect plays and you can try again. Make a "mistake" too many times and April blows up too. Not sure if it is exclusive to Game 3 or not, but obviously would not be relevant to Game 1 with no bombs in play.
