- St. Johann in Tirol is in the heart of the Kitzbuherler Alps and strikes you as a lesser-known skiing destination in Australia, and makes a perfect winter break away from the crowds.
It doesn’t have the size of some of its bigger brothers, but it certainly makes up for that in the quality of skiing and picturesque scenery. You'll be in the middle of nature, with photogenic mountains covered in untouched snow.
Couple that with very seriously friendly locals, who from the outset welcomed us in every way possible and took the time to enlighten us on all the things that make St. Johann in Tirol such a great ski spot in the Austrian Alps.
The snow in St. Johann in Tirol is pretty much assured all season, with a great covering and a huge investment in snow cannons, should the need arise. There are plenty of slopes for all levels, all with fantastic views over the valley.

My village I come from there. Greeting from Canada
So missed not visiting this year. Next year rodders.
what's the name of the view point you snow shoed to?
I ate there as a treat with my Grandparent. My godfather Franz Klausner was the owner creator and builder of the Huber Braeu. His mother was the richest woman in the province and also had a Emmentahler factory and 2000 cows. She stopped my godfather to marry my mother as she was poor and if he had done so his mother would have disinherited him. My mom married a South Africa tourist and then I was born in the Congo. I returned to St. Johann at age five as a survivor of a terrible cruel war my mother and I managed to escape. The hotel next to the tower, it was the name now was the Goldener Loewe andalso had the best and nearly only dance "club" in the Village in the 50s already. Joephine Baker sang there for four weeks when no one else in the world wanted her. My Godfather was an avid Paris visitor where I got to know her. I used to ski on begged funds from touristes for tickets to the Angerer Alm. My Granny would not allow me to go up there when I was only seven. It was famous for topless German tourist tanning up there on their skis. That's probalby once I met my grandfather up there with a friend. We made a packt never to reavel having met up there. I think Anne Marie is the sister of Christl in 97 still owned the middle Station with their brother Sepp. Great place to relax in the middle of a ski run down the hill day. Her parents owned the Park Hotel in St.Johann just 100m from our home. Next time you visit stay at the Narzenhof in St.Joann on the other side by the lower Kaiser. They have a bio pool and the best holiday apartments in a 400 year old house. My grand parents and my mom age 12 where let to live there for five years in the 1st floor corner room 5x5m after the war which saved their lives as refugees from Vienna. My grandfather designed tombstones and my granny made ragdools she exchanged for bread. My mom did odd jobs after school for eggs mil and butter when available. I would not be alive without that family. I am still in touch with their grand grand children. My grand parents Mrs and Mr Langer were the Stonemason in the Village for several decades and most monuments in the area. My mother at 21 became the first woman Stonmaster in Austria. At the village choir stands a now half million Euro over hundred year grand piano Boesendorfer she gave away before passing. Well thank you soooooo much for the lovely tour of my village. I lived and worked as designer boredpanda.com/stiletto-on-destination-peninsula-by-vstarchitecture-visual-senses-design-vancouver-bc-canada/ in 13 countries including Hong Kong New York Johannesburg and now in Vancouver Canada since 07. Your video made my day. I hope I can visit again before getting to old. Next time at Kaffee Rainer try the "Schaumrolle" that was the nec + ultra for children as a treat. It's a vanilla mousse roll cruchy like a Croissant. Cheers
