    [The Yinon plan] is an Israeli strategic plan to ensure Israeli regional superiority. It insists and stipulates that Israel must reconfigure its geo-political environment through the balkanization of the surrounding Arab states into smaller and weaker states.
    Israeli strategists viewed Iraq as their biggest strategic challenge from an Arab state. This is why Iraq was outlined as the centerpiece to the balkanization of the Middle East and the Arab World. In Iraq, on the basis of the concepts of the Yinon Plan, Israeli strategists have called for the division of Iraq into a Kurdish state and two Arab states, one for Shiite Muslims and the other for Sunni Muslims. The first step towards establishing this was a war between Iraq and Iran, which the Yinon Plan discusses.
    The Atlantic, in 2008, and the U.S. military’s Armed Forces Journal, in 2006, both published widely circulated maps that closely followed the outline of the Yinon Plan. Aside from a divided Iraq, which the Biden Plan also calls for, the Yinon Plan calls for a divided Lebanon, Egypt, and Syria. The partitioning of Iran, Turkey, Somalia, and Pakistan also all fall into line with these views. The Yinon Plan also calls for dissolution in North Africa and forecasts it as starting from Egypt and then spilling over into Sudan, Libya, and the rest of the region.

    The reality Israel gives orders to our presidents.AP reported recently :
    "Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said he called President George W. Bush to seek an abstention from the U.S., a key Israeli ally at the United Nations.
    "I said: 'Get me President Bush on the phone,'" Olmert said in a speech in the southern Israeli city of Ashkelon. "They said he was in the middle of giving a speech in Philadelphia. I said I didn't care: 'I need to talk to him now.' He got off the podium and spoke to me."

    very good point, I had forgotten about the 90s clip that showed Cheney's more grounded views. Interesting, what changed between that time and the 2000-ish PNAC and pre-911 planned push for war in Iraq? AIPAC got more influence? Saddam's switch from Petro-Dollars to Petro-Euro?

  • @benjiemation
    @benjiemation 17 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I guess he's maybe speaking in regards to th 1994 clip where Cheney was giving reasons for not invading Iraq then for the same reasons we're in he War now...Chaos, sectarian violence, How to replace the previous government, massive troop and civilian deaths and Nation Building. I guess Cheney is eating those words now...

    Well, attacking Iran would be complete madness. You are hardly making the case in favour of this lobby by pushing this argument. That they advocate mad policies in defense of Israel is not uncommon. Luckily USA lawmakers isn't as just as mad as the lobby, only almost.

    My view is only narrow if I'm wrong about oil security being the PRIMARY motivation for the invasion. The argument that the administration was truly animated by the WMD risk, I think, is weak, especially given that the administration knew the wmd evidence was very very questionable. Yet, they stretched the evidence to make their argument. Why? Because a wmd risk was something people could support. Long term energy security was not.

    To the contrary, invading Iraq to "right the wrong" of harboring terrorists and having chemical weapons (we knew there were no nukes) is narrow, given the huge risks and costs of invading. What made the risks and costs worth while (in the eyes of the Bush administration) was the biggest strategic prize on earth: energy security. Sadaam was a threat to the Gulf in general and an impediment to the US securing its long-term oil requirements (i.e. its economic future). What could be broader?
