    I know you Aussie guys are tough ones, but with the additives in diesel and oil now days, I'd be wearing gloves. Well you know that leak you need to take, you will wash your hands, but transfer stuff onto lower parts of your body. I didn't believe it caused Cancer until I started working for the RAC. I preferred to wear gloves (I had to get myself) but reading about dieseosis of the scrotum from oil additives has changed my working. Also those pesky little sharp needles of metal are a swine to get out. If steel, I use a strong magnet or a old solenoid. The Video is brilliant, I too keep old failures to look into, those lift pump springs can get weak, they are there to assist the vanes from sticking. But the vanes should be fairly tight and smooth in the grooves. Chatter from them acts upon the pumps surface and like a plane strips away metal. I tend not to trust pumps some gorilla has ripped off a wrecked motor, they tend to throw them on the ground, take them to a parts washer using old diesel/petrol with bits in and presto you have a almost new pump (full of crap). Tech is so tight now, I watch the odd channel on "How things work". You said assembly would be a bitch, well alot of this stuff isn't touched by humans, some robotic device can place things together without shakes. Common rail is a good path to go, but in places where roads are bad and tanker drivers fail to clean before filling up those forecourt tanks. Some garages can't afford the servicing of the delivery pumps. I had such a problem with cheap supermarket fuel, first the Pug (Peugeot) then the Range Rover. Petrol can cause drying out of these hi speed pumps, next time. Draw off some fuel into a sealed glass container and let it stand in the corner away from the sun. If there is petrol you will see a line of clear fluid. alternative is too use a old coke type bottle of milk bottle, seal it tight, place in a old thick sock and with it tied tight to a line, swing it around you for a few minutes (centrifuge) then place in a old box to avoid it failing over, untie and view the fuel. I used this method a few times on the auto club. Visual proof of the fuel being wrong. Call the bigger truck. Again thanks for the vids, first rate.

    Seeing lots of early diesel engine failures over here due to malfunctioning emissions equipment; one common problem associated with Ford diesels is with the high-temperature EGR; if it stops working it'll literally cook the engine!

    The same pump and injectors can be found on renault, ford, nissan, and dacia cars, and all have the same problem.
    The low pressure pump creates metal debris and locks the injectors.
    The problem can be solved by removing all low pressure pump components and replacing them with a electric gas pump mounted on fuel tank, if injectors did not failed allready. If they did you must clean fuel tank, clean fuel lines, replace rubber fuel lines from the return of the injectors and replace injectors and pump.
    On renault cars the system fails at about 80k KM or so, very few cars don't have this problem.
    Due to this, later models come whit Siemens systems, and don't have any issues.
    The problem is not the diesel, because these pumps fail woldwide !
    Delphi diesel system sucks big time !!!

    when DCI pump goes bad most of the times metal bits of the pump goes in fuel tank asswell by return line. its a big advise to check fuel tank before installing new pump. had same problem with jaguar x type 2.2 cdi

    Now you got more scrap bits and what not. The pump housing may be worth keeping for a scrap run instead of going in the bin. Along with the end cap.

    That thing on the back will be a PWM controlled solenoid for regulating injection pressure. It will just dump excess pressure down the return line.

    They are not pressure transducers, solenoid one is pressure regulator the other one is diesel temperature sensor

    put a Perkins or old Cummins in truck
    Fuel must be filtered down to 2 microns in these. Maybe get a pre filter for fuel there and add lube oil additives. Cheers from America.

  • @itsalwaysfake
    @itsalwaysfake 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hy! The biggest problem in a diesel car is not this pump! The pump will never fail when enough diesel is pumped from the diesel tank to this pump. When the fuel pump in the tank have a failure and therefore less/no fresh diesel goes to the high pressure pump immediately the high pressure pump can destroy all part of the rail...

    You think your diesel is poor try here, where some garages supply a blend of illuminating paraffin and 500ppm diesel, selling it as low sulphur diesel at a premium. Pretty much every diesel car I see driving around generally has a smoke trail behind it, even new vehicles. As they are often driven by plonkers as well it does not help particularly as they tend to service it on the " When it shytes itself on the side of the road" service schedule.

    Hello, I own a Kia Cerato 1.6 crdi 136 HP vehicle. My car is at 86,000 km. Diesel is mixed with the engine oil, the oil level is constantly rising. There is no problem in the operation of my vehicle, the idle is normal, there is no noticeable black or white smoke from the exhaust. It works immediately with a single start in the morning, there is no problem. The technician said it could be the DPF and he removed the DPF and cleaned it in the machine. The DPF was around 40% full, but it was still cleaned. But that was not the solution either. Engine oil level continues to rise in my vehicle. I think there is no problem with diesel injectors because there is no indication of injector failure. The vehicle engine has a timing chain. Could it be from the high pressure diesel pump seal? Or what could be the problem? Could you help? Urgent. Thanks in advance

    When these pumps go bad i see a lot of advise recommending replacement or cleaning of the tank and pretty much every other component in the fuel system but is this correct when everything that goes in (and i think out?) of the injection pump passes through the filter? Wouldn't it trap any metal particles?

    • @somejerk5295
      @somejerk5295 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know it's been over a year but I'm just bored
      Filters do help but the problem is with the injectors if there is very small metal shavings in the injector return lines it can destroy your pump really quickly because of the super tight tolerance that allow a pump to make 1600 bar or something like that

    Modern diesels are a laugh. Simply far too much technology under far too much stress trying to make an inherently dirty fuel burn clean. I'll stick with petrol thanks!

    • @williamklein3987
      @williamklein3987 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There making diesel engines like petrol but far much hassle. Modern diesel are better than old diesel in performance but there making diesel engine into pre engine petrol management where it gets confusing diagnostic equipment can't pin point or put you the right direction... It will come up with manufacturers code or unknown whether snap on delphi or ofcom in some way. Where as petrol diagnostic will put you in the right direction. For some reason I think diesel use to be work horse with more torque and petrol was for speed. These days people want power and speed and spruce up diesel yeah its good but now diesel is dearer parts cost more again more maintenance more problems and more tlc,. I drive a diesel now think I might go back to petrol.....its not like I have a tow truck fork lift or tractor🤣

    • @williamklein3987
      @williamklein3987 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      They strip more parts down on a diesel for cleaning or replacement, petrol use to be points and codensor diesel was injector and fuel filter now look at the pros and cons.... Today and past false economy but people will say diesel and there's more restrictions with government work it out false.... Freeze road tax or minimal compared to petrol but repair bills are higher with diesel. Who are the winners government peyrol Station are main dealers

      Yeh the car is long gone, got it running again after eating yet another pump and sold it :(. he did fix the problem tho, the pump was pulling un-filtered fuel via a failed check valve, hence why later on the car would run dry with half a tank left, it was pulling fuel (and air) from a return line that went half way into the tank :(. just a bad design. he re-designed the system so all unused fuel goes back to tank, and fresh fuel comes up via a pre-filter and water trap. it would be running fine even today, but his missus wanted nothing to do with it having been stranded by it several times :(

    • @lsd8497
      @lsd8497 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Aussie50 Bypass the low pressure pump and put a petrol pump in the gas tank. Although the whole fuel line, starting with the tank, is contaminated. The cause is the change in diesel's content of grease, less and less from euro 3 to euro 6. The low pressure pump can't grease it self properly anymore with the new diesel fuel.
