I came to the comments to make this exact statement. The theming isn't done. It will look like a mausoleum when completed. It's been placed over the giant hole we've seen in previous weeks (suggesting that hole is at least partially-filled). It's not in the concept art because it's outside of the bounds the concept art shows.
Just a heads up, there were no personalized tiles in the brick paths between the monorail and the esplanade trees. It has always been purely brick so none of them have been removed or lost.
I had the opportunity about seven-eight years ago to be in the front. There was me and another passenger- both of us teachers and we were talking teacher stuff and how much we love Disney. At the end of the journey, the driver asked us if we wanted to sit in the driver's seat and take a picture. Wow! That was the highlight of my trip! I will never forget it. It was a huge thrill.
David, I have to tell you, you do a fabulous job on these construction updates, you couldn't be anymore thorough unless you were working on the projects too!. Great job! Keep it up!! 😁😁
My kids enjoyed riding in the front of the Monorail this weekend...it was a first for them. CMs even kept a couple pairs of Mickey hands up there so we could wave to everyone down below.
David, you were sort of correct when you said that those white bags where for soil. It's bags of crushed rock. All that they need to do is pull on a string on the bottom and it opens up and drops it load. Most likely its for the base material before a concrete pour.
The white bag with the blue straps that was being moved by the crane was a giant sand bag which is used for transporting sand or gravel to specific location. Usually used to transport material over walls or into tight areas without getting the rest of the area dirty.
David the cinder block building like others said it is going to probably look like the crypt in the cemetery like in the first movie for the ADA. I would be so ecstatic! about sitting in the nose of the Monorail, so cool Dave.❤
The arches over the Tiana's Bayou queue are possibly junction boxes for the Waiting Time indicator signs for the ride. They're going to paint the arches and maybe place a Shade covering for the CM working on the ride lines. 10:13
At the Mansion it’s a bummer that they’ve removed the long planter from in front of the brick wall and iron gate along the main front facade (from the main entrance to the exit doorway). That was a nice place for folks to sit in the shade of the big trees along the main path. It opens up the big walkway quite a bit so that’s a bonus I suppose.
I agree with the you on not liking the look of the train station all covered up. I enjoy your posts on the parks. and what a pleasant surprise it was to finally see you in the park! My daughter was laughing at me for being all excited seeing you "live" in the park.
The haunted mansion virtual queue is horrible. I went to Disneyland yesterday and joined the queue at 12 noon. They finally called us to join the queue at 10PM. I was already in bed by then. That was very disappointing since I brought my grandson there for his birthday and that is the only ride he wanted to go on. Get it together Disneyland
LOADING IN THE NOSE!!!!! I didn’t know that was back! I’m gonna take my little guy the next time we go! We went last Friday after the monorail was back in service, and it had been so long that when it honked it spooked him lol. I told him it was ok, it was just the monorail, and he said Hi monorail!
FreshBaked. David, I remember when all those buildings backstage were all just wooden sheds. Nice to see all's been replaced with much larger buildings now. On the railway track there is also an oil trap where the track turns left as it leaves Frontierland. You can tell how tight that corner is by how much the rolling stock squeaks as they make the turn. When I saw the train station the first shock curled my toes right down to the far end of my booties. Lets hope it's only a month or so otherwise I'll be reaching for the smelling salts. Cheers, Chris Perry.
26:39 Is that HEY BRICKY?!?! hehehe, I think it is... Hi there! 🤣 The white bag on the end of the machine bringing something in was probably dirt or some sort of "powder" type substance (most likely dirt) as the circular fabric tube at the bottom is where you pull a string and it lets the contents in the bag out. Could be gravel/crushed rock as well. Though that's usually just dumped in with buckets.
David, if you look right below that cinder-block structure, you can see an opening underneath it. This could be the second floor of a structure. Other than that, I don't know what that is.
In the concept art you can just see some posts, I originally thought that was there to represent the house, but I think those will come off that structure, which is now going to be the entrance to the elevator. It may also be the top of the elevator shaft itself.
The Silvacells installation is likely to prevent Root rot and tree health problems that would have trees falling over on pedestrians and damaged buildings. Fill the cells with Vermiculite and potting soil and "engineered soil" for long term plant health 🎉 Ask DL horticulture department at City Hall, they'll gladly tell the Horticulture department and get you the answers. They're traditional fantastic about it. 😊
I was so proud of myself I was yelling my elevator before David said it. Whenever I watch hotels or apartments build the first thing that goes up are the elevators bricked floor to top.
Rode the monorail yesterday and did notice people in the nose. Also rode my wife's favorite ride, "It's a Small World" for the last time for two months while they start long overdue maintenance and upgrades prior to the holiday season. Then it closes again after the holidays for three more months of refurbishments.
Could we get an update/mention on long-term "abandoned" projects? I know you've been emphasizing Tom Sawyer island quite a bit recently, but how about the Tomorrowland entrance walls and the Gadgetcoaster fountain. Any more? A segment on these would be nice!
Disneyland heard you. We showed up at the park this morning and the brown covers were gone, replaced with covers with the image disney railroad station
My daughter is taking a 12 day trip to Disneyland in a week. I've told her about them seating guests in the cab and she's going to try it. Thanks, Dave!
@@WindowtotheMagic One day at Universal. She's a Disney head, like her dad. Boogie Boogie and 10 full days at Disney. It's wild. She's 19, she can handle it.
Depends on what goes in for Tortillas Joes, they cab di remodeling mostly Internal only and leave the exterior walls alone. Trench for sewer ,water and electric underneath the slab alone, and not mess with exterior walls if they don't need to. Much less expensive that way.
20:48 my guess is that it IS the elevator, but obviously having an elevator in the middle of a haunted house’s greenhouse area would be an eyesore, so the weird shape is probably because they’re going to theme the exterior of the elevator to a crypt. It takes on the same shape as one.
Hey Fresh Baked: Any signs of them fixing that New Orleans Train Station that had that fire? This would be a great time for them to fix it, while the RR is closed!
The block structure in the Mansion queue is the elevator shaft. I'm sure they will theme it to fit in. The white bag hanging from the lift iss a material bag, generally to bring in sand. You can ssee the open portion on the bottom that unties to let the sand out. At Luige's and the Cozy Cone it definitely looks like irrigation and drainage. The green pipes you see are usually used for storm drain lines.
They put Soil Amendment and potting soil in the big bags with a spout on the bottom, and lift it with a Telehandler forklift over the planters to place the soil in the Silvacells. They're replacing the Trees to stop the trees "falling over" like in the past. 16:02
I’m glad they open the front car to the monorail again. I rode the front before and was talking to monorail operator it was fun. I had a question for you, do you know if Disneyland will put there magic keys back on sale again. I have tried to purchase a magic key but the last few months it said it was only available for renewal. It would be nice if it was available to the public again. Have a great day! 😊
I agree that the current amount of construction in the park is pretty awful, and I personally wouldn't visit the park in its current state. However, like others have mentioned, I strongly suspect this is all in preparation for the 70th anniversary next year, at which time we'll (hopefully) see a massive reduction in the amount of construction and refurbs, or even a complete absence of them. We saw something similar in 2019 with Project Stardust. Prior to the opening of Galaxy's Edge, there was construction all over the park to prepare it for the projected increase in attendance. Remember the scrim over the castle? That was all completed in time for the opening of Galaxy's Edge in June of that year. When I visited the park in September of 2019, there was virtually no construction going on at all - save for one small area at the entrance to Tomorrowland - and every single ride was open. I mean, there were literally no closures. So it is possible to see a construction- and closure-free park, even in fairly recent times. I'm hopeful that will be case next year, as well, and we'll look back on this period as the vegetables we had to eat before we could enjoy dessert. ETA: Actually, the Tomorrowland side of the Matterhorn was closed during my 2019 visit, because a big chunk of the mountain facade had fallen off. However, since it wasn't a full closure, my feeling was it didn't detract from the guest experience (at least if you used a FastPass). In fact, one of my favorite memories of that trip was riding the Fantasyland side at night, and watching the final Main Street Electrical Parade go by as we were heading back into the loading zone at the end of the ride. No lack of magic there!
Wait how long is main street station gonna be like that? Going in ten days and already really sad about the train, jungle cruise and small world being closed as I havent visited the park in years.
Those white things on the cranes were bulk poly bags with a bottom dump.. typically contain rocks, dirt, sand, gravel etc. If they don't have dump trucks or dump trailers this is how they are transporting their yard materials.
18:18 I would argue that Tiana’s also improved the sight line there- it arguably looks better next to New Orleans Square/ Haunted Mansion than Splash Mountain did- and looks more distant!
Looks like Disneyland is pretty well torn apart in many areas. I travel from another state to get there and spend thousands of dollars doing so with plane fare, airport shuttle, Hotel, and food so, I'm holding off going to Disneyland until more than likely after the first of the year. I usually travel to Disneyland, Universal Studios, Knotts Berry Farm, and Sea World about once every year. Best time was 50 year anniversary.
I was there for the 50th too! It was very special for sure. I live in SoCal and I won't go till things are mostly done too. It's too expensive and special to ruin it with closures and maintenance. I don't blame you for holding off.
Yeah, they’ve been doing a lot of refurbs and construction projects in the last year or so. They seem to be pushing hard to get these done in time for the 70th anniversary next year. It’s a small bother to have to deal with these projects, but the park will be better for it.
All steam locomotives drip oil and grease, its the nature of the beast. The ballast that is very dark is probably covered in that mess. Also, they used to fuel the engines at Toontown. There is likely a little diesel fuel in that mess too. I'm glad they are cleaning it up.
Hi there David. Thanks for the update. I noticed when you were in the monorail that when you past the Indy ride attraction building there were workers on scaffolding around the structure - any idea what they’re doing?
That's probably NOT cinder block som type of fire blocking panels to prevent fire spread into the elevator access ramp up from the underground Service corridor exit from the portrait gallery.😊 23:28
16:05 Looks like either a statue or fountain to me. Perhaps that could be a one eyed cat statue depicted in the concept art! I’m also personally hoping that they add the Leota tombstone like the one at WDW- given part of the queue will be themed to Madame Leota in addition to Master Gracey and the one eyed cat!
I'm curious about the roof of the Tiana's Bayou Adventure building... is it wood shingles that will age naturally to match Pooh and Hungry Bear? Or is it a synthetic/composite material? It seems so uniform whereas the painted wood of the structure has a weathered and rustic look. It reminds me of how many McDonald's from the 1980s had that red plastic-looking "shingle" roof. That's kind of the vibes I'm getting from what I'm seeing in the video...too clean and perfect and the color seems artificial.
The cinderblock structure will house the ADA elevator and will be themed to look like a crypt or mausoleum.
That's what I was going to say, although, he seems to realize it during the video.
It looks like it might be themed as a small mausoleum
That's exactly what I was going to say, too.
It looks like those found in New Orleans cemeteries.
I came to the comments to make this exact statement. The theming isn't done. It will look like a mausoleum when completed. @WindowtotheMagic Yes! I'm always impressed at that and when people are narrating over recordings in Reality TV.
The Monorail was one of my favorite things when I was a kid. Can't wait to ride it with my kids.
What is outrageous about the railroad is Disney makes some of the most beautiful scrim in the world. And they wanna greet guests with burlap.
Wow.
The building for the lift will probably be themed to a mausoleum, based on its shape. They’ll probably add some pho pillars to the outside.
I thought the same thing
At least more of the Disneyland RailRoad is being refurbished than originally thought. It will be all shiny and new for the 70th.

That's kind of the vibes I'm getting from what I'm seeing in the video...too clean and perfect and the color seems artificial.
Thinking the crypt structure is the new elevator shaft.
