I don't currently have an answer for you, friend, but I'll pin this in the comments, and maybe someone else will. I plan on doing a lot of tall tales for a while, and if the chicken island one comes up, I'll keep an eye out for this problem. May guess is it could possibly be a temporary bug. Since the last update, there's been a few. Like Skellys not repairing so you can hit them once and just wait until they sink.
people abuse the living $$$ out of this... This tall tale should never have been a thing or find some way to stop ppl abusing it. As in if you dont go to do the quest and just get the totem and then do other things, your ship sinks... Seriously, f every single person that uses this to deny pvp. Exploiters deserve to play on the pve mode only
