    Literally started seasoning 45mins ago while listening to some other idiot give his block of instructions until I realized something ain't right. Thankfully I found your channel and saw the video and moved my coala from the main grill to the smoker( it was a significant emotional event). Thankfully, I did it and now I'm watching this thing season properly. THANKS FOR UPLOADING THIS. THIS SAVED ME FROM A LOT OF HEARTACHE

    I just bought the charcoal version of this (no side box). Interesting because the instructions tell you how to season it - which I never heard of. I noticed that there is a lot of smoke coming out of the grill when in use. I really like the idea of the insulation! Thanks for that.

    You made an amazing video full of awesome information. The only thing I would have done differently would be to use lump charcoal for the seasoning because briquets are full of such poisonous by products such as benzine in some scary brands. Again that's just me because i'm charcoal bias and only use lump. Again great video.

      Nice. So I ended up taking taking the bricks and baffles out and I decided to also use it for charcoal cooking. Works great for both. All you have to do is turn the charcoal holder upside down when doing a smoke and this works as the perfect baffle. The. turn it right side up when cooking with Charcoal. Good luck and keep us posted.

      Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I fell off a retaining wall and broke my ankle so I've dealing with that. So yes, our other friend commented to spray the grates the next time. That is totally fine. I just costed the entire bbq because I wanted a good coating seal and so far I haven't had anything stick in a year. If you season your bbq well the first time, it will last much longer. You may just have to season your grates a little more often. I spray my grates every time I cook anyway. Good luck and let us know how things are going.

Just turn the charcoal grate upside down and push it over to the smoker side for the smoking. Then flip it over to do the charcoal cooking. Have fun and experiment. It's really about trial and error and finding what you like. I have several cooking videos if you want to try some good stuff to cook and eat. Good luck my friend and let me know how it goes.

      Awesome. So I want you to do something. Dont bother going to the store to get baffle material. Save the money. Take your charcoal grate and flip it over and this is a much better baffle. There are 3 bolts that hold your smoker box to the grill. Rest one side into these 3 bolts and the other side will just sit on the bottom. Works much better than what I did in our first mod video. No need for the bricks either. Wrap your whole grill with tin foil also. This will help keep things clean and it's really easy to change out. Just make sure you push your finger through the drain hole. The gauges are awesome and the seal works wonders. Also, empty your firebox between each cook. It's good to get a woodstove style magnet gauge for the firebox. I like to get my fire at about 700 degrees and keeps everything cooking even and constant. You will have to try things out and find out what works for you. Good luck. Keep me posted.

      Ryan Kingsley. You are probably right. I just decide to season everything. I figured it couldn't hurt and it really made things easy to wipe out that falls through the grates. I also figured that the whole unit will be filling with heat and smoke so I want that continuous flavor flowing through the unit. I'm sure just doing the grates will be fine.

    • @thedadlifechannel6038
      @thedadlifechannel6038  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure. Once the rust creeps in, I'm not sure it ever truly goes away. That's one of the main reasons to season

    • @peterbatty7587
      @peterbatty7587 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rust needs iron oxygen and water. Clean rusty bits with a flap wheel or sand papering by hand, then wash with strong detergent to get as clean as possible. Let it dry completely then season as shown. Baste rusted areas several times during process to get a really good coating. This should seal the surface so water and air shouldn’t be able to get to the steel (iron). Repeating the seasoning will build up the coating so it might be a good idea to do it at each end of the BBQ “season” (real outdoor cooks just keep on keeping on!)

    I just purchased my first smoker and I am watching a number of these videos. For someone that is a complete novice, I noticed that several others have also used bacon grease, but you are the only one that I have seen that uses Olive Oil. Most use Canola due to its much higher smoke temp. Is there a specific reason that you use Olive oil rather than Canola?

    • @thedadlifechannel6038
      @thedadlifechannel6038  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Frank . It's just what I had at the time. I always use Canola oil to spray the grates before each cook.

    Do you ever season the outside/exterior of the grill? I've read comments about the exterior rusting from the elements, even though it's under the cover

    Two months ago I bought a King Griller. Missing and bent pieces. The manufacturer promised to take care of the problems with bent legs and other bent metal lid. They said it is in the mail. Tried to call back and no answer at all. I went to back to Lowes to purchase parts to fix it better. No, I did not return or ask for return, refund or exchange. I didn't realize it was made in China. I should have looked first for where it was made in what country.

      I love my grill smoker. Dont put the baffles in it. I did several tests and actually took mine out. If you take the charcoal holder and turn it upside down, it will rest on the the side and act as the best baffle. Just push it over to the smoker side and have the other side vented. Saves time and money and works awesome. I'm gonna do a follow up video soon.
