The A3000's case is a beautiful work of art IMHO, and it's incredibly awesome that it's now available again, with a modular design to boot. Stephen is certainly one smart chap and is wise to the ways of Kickstarter. It's very inspiring to see him take this idea and make an actual physical product out of it. I wish him all the success in the world, he certainly deserves it.
That is a man that loves what he is doing! Great to listen to and quite refreshing to hear someone talk so open about their project. Thanks Neil for supporting him and introducing us to Stephen's project! Also, these Tea Breaks are awesome. So far nothing but interesting characters! :D
He has so much passion for this product I could listen to him all day Neil 😁 it's a great product that needs no introduction in my eyes and quality will always sell itself🦁🦁🦁Kim🦁🦁🦁
Blimey Henderson Fabrication - we used them in the 90’s to reproduce/clone the mounting brackets for the drives in Olivetti PC’s - made great margin on those compared to the oem parts. Glad to hear the are still going.
Awesome work by Stephen. I love his energy. I nearly got the 1500 back in the day but ended up with the A1500 by commodore instead. Did not understand it back then, I do now. Sadly I missed the Kickstarter so really looking forward to your coverage.
Awesome. People do not realize how much planning and design goes into making a product, then as mentioned, how things change by manufacturers or supply by the time a project is funded adding to the difficulties. It is great to see this come to fruition. :-)
it's a small world for us geeks. I saw a guy in my office showing off his Raspberry Pi and I shouted over "hey you have levelled up your Raspberry Pi with genuine Sanwa arcade parts" and three other guys all laughed, turns out we are all fans of the channel
I backed this and bought a bunch of the extras. Thank you so much Stephen for sitting down and talking about Checkmate case. I am waiting as patiently as I can for my black case and extras to arrive!!!
I am writing this on June 4th, one day after this video was posted, and I cannot believe 17 mean-spirited miserable viewers have voted this down. I don't know Stephen personally, but I admire his work and enthusiasm. He is patently honest and will delivered what he has promised. I wonder what achievements the 17 down-voters have ever achieved in their lives?. I bet they have done nothing as practical and constructive as this great project.
@@ct6502-c7w Agreed, but I am of the belief that if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. I think anyone who does anything constructive and practical, especially for the love of it, should be encouraged. Those 17 must be very sad individuals!
I absolutely love this project and the passion Stephen has clearly shown for it. I have a Mini-ITX machine that serves as my home server and live stream encoding machine. It's currently in a Fractal Design case but I have to admit, I'm really tempted to transplant it into one of these. Will they be made available for sale beyond the backers and what price point are we looking at?
Great video! Stephen has done really well bless him. I wanted a black and a white one until he PM'd me saying the CD32 is not one of the supported systems. Nobody has mentioned this yet however. Bugger 😢
Another great video. Love your channel. You and your viewers should check out TH-camr Hey Birt and his vlog on the rare Convergent Technology ‘s Workslate. You’ll be blown away by his detailed restoration.
I remember I so wanted to back this but at the time I did not have money to do so. I will be ordering one for my A1200 as soon as I can (assuming I can ever get my A1200 to work! I am having no luck with getting internal IDE working for CF card) :)
probably a faulty ide2CF controller.(could be you got one thats a little bit to PC oriented) i hope you get the right one. try ordering one at VESALIA. btw. why not go for IDE2SD ?
@@janwiersma1449 I bought 2 different ones and neither work. I did make sure they were for the right machine. One worked for a single boot but then stopped working. Floppy drive is saying every disk I have has errors so that must also be faulty. Made me give up trying fix the darn thing. I would love to have it working but I lost the motivation to move past these 2 problems as I do not have people I can turn to for help :/
I wonder why the cases could not have been cast in Aluminum and the waste could be recycled to cast more cases and anyway a metal case will reduce RFI coming from the unit. Has anyone considered getting an old OLIVETTI M3030 taking the back of and gutting it and building a COMMODORE AMIGA A3000 into it in place of the old electronics although you will have to do something about the combined Duel 8" Floppy_drive/Line_printer but that should not be to difficult.
is stephen going to do a redesign of the case, to say take a full size ATX board, and say seperate SATA hdrive housing etc. Not to mention I would love if a redesign could fit a C64
Awesome case! I just wish that I could afford it :( The price is totally right and justified, but I can't spend that much more on my old Phenom II X4 system. I did not afford an Amiga, and now I can't afford a nice Amiga case. Such is life... Nevertheless, I am happy for everyone who gets one.
@@RMCRetro :/ unfortunately I'm waiting for the Vampire 4 stand-alone before I order his amazing case... Then I'll have a V4+RasPi all-in-one retro machine. I know RasPi can emulate the Amiga, but since it's the Amiga being closest to my retro heart, I want more than just an A500 emulated. I want the Amiga I could not afford, and more on top, and one of those things on top is a beautiful case like the A1500+.
How much weight does it support? Some people might want to put a CRT on top. For example, right I'm using a modern laptop plus a 17" CRT for emulation. Works perfectly with DOSBox and WinUAE to run games in true 320x200, 640x256 and so on, by creating custom resolutions with high refresh rates as a workaround for this CRT being too new to support 15khz. LCDs simply don't look right with their fixed resolutions and other issues.
"Wanted to ship by March because of Brexit when the world was going to end". How strange. I'm sure he produced and shipped the original Checkmate 1500 in the late 80s, and the EU didn't exist until 1992... Not immediately clear to me how the production of a piece of kit in the UK and China would be affected by leaving the European Union, other than importing the case from China will cost less when the EU's tariffs are removed from our trade with China. Shameful how ordinary people have been scaremongered into thinking like that.

Lovely chat - been quite a fan of Stephen Jones' new Amiga inspired case.

Not gonna lie I've been looking for older school cases that support mATX for a while now, this fits the bill perfectly for me
Same. And I'm gutted I missed the Kickstarter.
Gosh I was there and didn't even see you filming this, I really was absorbed that day! What a great little interview :)
I can’t wait for the cases to be available to order. I missed the Kickstarter by 1 day
Good retro tea break, love Stephens enthusiasm comes across as a really nice guy
Awesome awesome awesome! I'm so looking forward to mine, love the passion, energy, enthusiasm and communication Steve has put into this. Top bloke! 👍
i love this channel!! The way emulating is getting so big now, it's nice to see such a love of old hardware and stylings :)
Great video - I like this new format for these 15 minutes tea break videos. Looking forward to my lovely case coming in the next few months!
Looks SOOO good. I KICKING myself for not getting the dough together to grab one of these! Congrats to you lucky few! Nice work, Stephen!

Love the black one...
Wow the case has turned out fantastic. Looking forward to the review :)
Used to love my Amiga 600 think I might buy one off eBay. 😁
Great tea break, thank you
Fascinating stuff. Great insight into the Kickstarter process and design to manufacture
I had to put the captions on this one. I’m too murican to understand you two going. 😭

Gotta love it when a company jacks up their price to rip you off but you can say see ya and go to their competitor.
absolutely, competition is always needed for just such a reason
I like the idea and great to see the sdcard but gotek i think will be the prefered option
Nice well done
Can I ask what show you are at. I only know of the replay event in the uk . Desperate for other computer gaming shows if they exist
Yes! This is the wonderful South West Amiga Group. More info here: www.southwestamiga.org.uk/

Nice!
I wonder if you could find a PowerPC board that would fit in there so you could run AmigaOS 4.1
I have a G4 Mac Mini... that could work
Thanks for this, was really interesting. Didn't back at the time but I'm def going to buy one when he offers them for self! Really want an A1200 case.
Is it too late to back this project to get one?

Any idea how long till you take preorders again? Desperate to order one even if I need to wait a while

Thanks :) I really want a case

Miss that form factor in the pc space.
Please don’t put a PC in there! Put a powerhouse Amiga board in!
i ordered the case with the two different PC backpanels. i keep my Amigas in their original cases.
Kickstarter is awful. Will never fund anything through them again.
