Together they did what the unbalanced galacticos couldn’t in 4 years, and win La Liga after the dominance of Ronaldinho, who had humiliated Madrid at the bernabeu the season before. Ruud was instrumental in that win, scored every type of goal and played better than he had for his last 2 seasons in Manchester. Without Ruud, Beckham would have left Madrid trophyless. Madrid then repeated the fear in 07/08. It was a great era in Madrid, although largely forgotten now as the late 2010’s are remembered for the emergence of tiki taka.
I'd build a team around Ruud, before I'd build one around Ronaldo or Messi. Big and deliberate. Good presence of mind. And a true finisher in and around the box.
