Out of all the players I've seen, if you'd have told me 20 years ago that *Stephen Hendry* would run a show like this (and do it so well), I'd have laughed at you. It's rare to see interviewers who are not only as honest as he is (in what he asks and what he reveals of himself), but also have that way to completely disarm the other guy, and make them feel at ease and ready to tell you anything. It's a pleasure to watch this. If Hendry didn't do interviews, he should ask for a job at the police department.

Shaun looks like the most delightful person in the world, looks like the friendliest guy and someone who you'd just love to have a beer with. Such an amazing smooth cue action, one of the best (certainly the smoothest for me) cue actions in the world. So knowledgeable. I always enjoy listening to what he has to say and he just always wears a smile on his face. One of my favourite snooker players, I am so much looking forward to seeing him lift another big title very soon, because he deserves it. The only reason why he didn't become World Champion in 2021 was that Selbz was absolutely determined to win and when that happens, nothing can change the course of nature. But Shaun deserved it so much. I really hope to see him lift the World Championship trophy again or at least a few ranking titles, the man bleeds snooker. Wonderful video again, Stephen :)

This is a very interesting interview, getting to know a player I really don't know much about! Understanding the character and motivation as well as personal issues and mindset is a refreshing change too! Shaun Murphy I could see at first sight in this video is a sharp dresser and that means a degree of personal confidence! While I do play snooker, but not very well these days, I am a pool player, by English rules with only red and yellow balls in the main set! I enjoy playing the best players because it improves my game, so I tend to tell less experienced players that losing any game is your next step towards success and winning again! Learn the lessons and apply them to your next games! No one should be ashamed of losing to someone you perceive as a better player! This is how you will get better, find a way to change up your game, this is your personal challenge! That is why your channel Stephen is invaluable to all players of the table games! Thank you! Good luck to Shaun too!

That was SO good. It's funny, as soon as Hendry began commentating it was obvious he wasn't allowed to criticise - which is insane, considering he's a better player than most (if not all) he commentated on. It makes no sense for the superior to praise every inferior. There's nothing for us to learn by tying his tongue that way. Imagine Yoda telling Luke 'You're perfect as you are.' It's stupid. Hearing Hendry here, unstifled, plus Sean Murphy who can talk 24/7 and never be boring, a first rate storyteller for sure, is just superb. If commentary was like these two even the dull matches would be a real treat

Honest, open, respectful, self-effacing at times, honest about his past & personal problems, matured gracefully over the years, tells awesome stories about snooker, gives Ronnie respect but also is properly critical about some dumb things Ronnie has said & done, is a great knowledgeable student & fan of the game, and a proper assertive polite British speaker. The insights of player mentality on this channel, is absolutely fascinating! You can apply the thoughts and feelings of these amazing players, to everyday situations. It just goes to show that legends of a profession have their good days, bad days, quirks and moments (and let's face it, it's likely magnified ten fold for them, due to being in the public eye) - it brings a real degree humanity to the proceedings. I think that listening to these kinds of conversations can really help people who battle with stuff every day, and it just goes to show that it's not exclusive to us 'mere mortals'.

Love your channel. Shaun is a great guest. I can understand if someone is criticised for being a bad loser. But for being a ‘good’ one is harder for me to wrap my head around. The game is over at that point.
We all prefer to win, but understanding and respecting your opponent for wanting the same as you do should be, and can be, a source of strength to be admired. I have a background (many years ago now) in gymnastics, a sport you can’t really do on a high level into your mature years. We worked hard in practice. But when it came time to compete, our trainers did their best to make us relax and not give in to focusing too much attention on our opponents, which is what unchecked competitiveness is likely to do. I think Shaun’s attitude is healthy, even if he is hurt on the inside, as we all are when we lose. Losing is an essential component in winning. That may sound like a contradiction to some, but we learn so much more from losing than from winning. Losing gracefully is the mature person’s way of learning. Bravo, Shaun!

Practice is vital for touch and feel. In my case I've always been able to pot balls but because I only played a couple of times a week my positional play was never as good as it needed to be. Had a few 50+ breaks in my time but if I practiced more I think it could have turned those 50s into centuries.

The one thing I habe learned from watching these long form interviews on this channel is just how professional, well spoken and genuine snooker players are. So far every single one seems like someone I would enjoy talking to.
Now I am a massive football fan but I think I would rather have a night out with a snooker player

Shaun is an absolute gentleman. Met him 15 years ago in q’s snooker club in Blackpool. So refreshing to see him talk about his struggles and to be fair he looks great and hopefully a good win comes soon. Would really love to see him get nasty/angry/annoyed/upset/ferocious. DONT FORGET WHO YOU ARE SHAUN ! YOU’RE A CHAMPION!!!!

Im not 100% sure but i think shaun was talking about chris henry who shaun had been coached by since 2013 and was very close to and shaun always used to praise him at most interviews, but then chris started working with other players a few years after, including mark selby who reached the world final in 2021 with shaun and beat him, it must have been weird to have the same coach going to both dressing rooms at the same time, and i assume after that world final thats when shaun had left him.

His cue action is my favorite. It's so silky and fluent. He plays at a brisk pace. Plus he just goes for his shots. He'll turn down easy safety for difficult pots. So many players are scared to go for anything with an element of danger. I respect his go-for-it attitude. Hendry was the same. Maguire is another.
