The symbols on Ben's secret room door apear to be HIEROGLYPHS that are determinative sings in EGYPTIAN. A basic translation of these HIEROGLYPHS is "TO SUMMON PROTECTION"
I feel bad for Ben. I don't think he really thought they would kill her. The devastation on his face was severe. I know people say he isn't her father, or she isn't his daughter, but even she would disagree. The look on her face when Sawyer wanted to kill him shows she still looked upon him as her father.
As Ben said, the rules changed and no one informed him. I think Ben was still working under the impression that they only wanted Ben and if he pretended not to care about Alex, they'd push her aside and let her live. I do like Ben. He's a fun character and the heartbreak in that scene when he's just staring out the window... what an actor!
This show made me believe Benjamin Linus was the creepiest dude imaginable and then suddenly I’m feeling sympathy for the guy. What an amazing show. I’m watching for the first time in the show’s 20th anniversary. I was 13 when it aired in 2004!
Sawyer in this episode. Just. . . My heart. Trying to save people, rescuing/taking care of Claire, being protective of Hurley. Ugh. The character development is flawless! 👌🏻 Also, Michael Emerson’s acting! 👏🏻
hello, im new to this channel! i’ve seen a few of your guy’s videos here and there but this channel is one of the best out there! your guy’s reactions!!! just perfect! you guys are killing it!
It's been awhile since I've watched lost but my goodness. I had no idea that all of this happened in a single episode. If only I could've watched this live.
Poor Alex. She didn’t deserve this. First her mother and her boyfriend get killed and then her father says, she means nothing to him. I know, it is a desperate attempt to save her life but he gambled and he lost. Pun intended.
We know that the island wouldn't let Michael kill himself (despite our desire to permanently get rid of this character). So when Ben says he can't kill Widmore, it's not because they're "playing a game", it's because the island won't let them kill each other until the island is done with them.
Those 3 npc's that get shot, one at a time, as they step out of the house, each one concerned for the previous one, is like a skit. Sawyer shooting for them to get back into the house was just the cherry on top. I was laughing so much.
The reason you see your breath when it's cold is not because your breath is cold but because the outdoors is cold and your breath is warm. Ben seeing his breath in the hot desert is like when you hear the sound of TIE fighters in Star Wars - it's not scientifically accurate but it helps tell the story.
The three characters get shot but somehow they constantly miss Sawyer. Is the island protecting him- it doesn’t make sense when he is standing near the other two that got shot.
The director kinda dropped the ball on a few scenes here. I mean I guess there could be a magical reason for Sawyer not getting hit, but it still looked bad and could've been done better. Also, why the hell didn't they just absolutely destroy Keamy after he shot Alex? He was literally standing out in the open, had no leverage left and they should've had guns pointed at him that whole time.
what I love about "he changed the rules" is that there really aren't any rules, but ben uses it as an excuse to blame widmore because he doesn't want to admit its really his fault
It's interesting that Michael was able to feel guilt for killing Ana-Lucia and Libby. Yet, other characters like Sawyer, Ben, Kate, Charlie, Sayid, Ana-Lucia, Eko and Locke were incapable of feeling remorse for some of the people they killed. Or characters like Jack and Shannon were incapable of feeling any remorse for their attempts to murder Locke.
Sawyer did briefly feel guilt in earlier seasons for the innocent people he killed. Other than that, he/Charlie sees other murders as justified. Ben... I feel like that is self-explanatory lol. Kate and Locke are def such complex characters and i think she justified her murders as well. Sayid and Eko definitely feel guilty and had to live with what they were given. I think subtle guilt is really prevalent. But Michael's murders were completely innocent people that had no idea what they were in the middle of, plus seeing Walt every day reminds him of what he did. I love the ways the show deals with death... its very real!
@@lizthom9434 You're condeming Michael's murders and at the same time, justifying the murders of the other characters? One of Michael's victims was a murderer herself. A "bad person". Does that mean Michael was justified in killing her? Sawyer had never felt any guilt for killing Tom Friendly. In fact, he killed Tom, knowing damn well that Ben had ordered the kidnapping. Which is odd, considering that Sawyer never went after Ben for the kidnapping. Yet, back in Season 2, Sawyer had made it clear that he wanted to kill Tom because the latter had shot him on the raft. But, Tom never shot him. It was one of the Others who shot Sawyer after he had reached for his gun. However, Sawyer has never admitted this. So, if characters like Sawyer, Charlie, Kate, Sayid, Ben, Ana-Lucia, Locke and Eko saw their murders as "justified" and felt little or no remorse for what they did, then I can only say that I found their views fucked up and disturbing. I can also say the same about characters who had resorted to attempted murder like Jack and Shannon. This attitude is typical of people who resort to violence to solve their problems or resort to revenge killing to deal with the pain they had suffered. I see nothing excusable about this. In Kate's case, it wasn't even about getting revenge or saving someone. It was about erasing her father so she could pretend that her discovery that he was her father was a mistake. Michael should be condemned for his murders. But guess what? So should Sawyer, Kate, Sayid, Ben, Locke, Ana-Lucia, Eko, Charlie, Juliet and other characters who had committed murder for reasons other than self-defense or the defense of others. And characters like Jack and Shannon should be condemned for attempted murder. I'm tired of "LOST" fans making excuses for most of the major characters and at the same time condemning only Michael and Ben. This hypocrisy has been one of the uglier aspects of "LOST" fans for years.
@@DRush76 I don't want to make assumptions. But race and gender could heavily play a role in this. It's in our nature to condemn any man who commits violence against a woman. Never mind murder against 2 women. Also there's this whole stereotype about black men and murder. So that murder could have triggered something. Again. This may not be the case. But seeing how people keep bending themselves into a pretzel to condemn Michael and justify other characters makes that possibility arise in my head.
@@x-man9473 That's not it at all. It's really a form of tribalism. The survivors are seen as one, so what Michael did that the others didn't was kill one of his own. In fact, after what Michael did, the one thing that shocked me the most wasn't another killing - it was Jack pulling the trigger on Locke. Again, a member of his tribe.
Remember when Juliet had went on trial for killing Danny Pickett back in Season 3? She had killed another member of the Others. That was the rule she had broken. It's why Widmore had ordered Keamy to kidnap Ben . . . and why Ben said to Widmore that they couldn't kill each other. There was a rule among the Others that they couldn't kill each other. Mikhail had killed Bonnie and Greta, due to Ben's order, but ended up killing himself while killing Charlie. Which meant the rest of the Others didn't know that Ben was behind Bonnie and Greta's deaths. Widmore wasn't so lucky. When Keamy had killed Alex (also an Other), Widmore had broken that rule or changed it, because Keamy was working for him. Sawyer is always thinking of others? Sawyer? C'mon! Where have you been? And judging from the expression on his face and his words to Widmore, I don't think Ben had expected Alex to be killed. It's amazing that after Ben told Widmore that he was going to kill Penny in retaliation for Alex, Widmore's last response was that the island was "his" and he was going to find it.
Ben could have saved Alex if he gave himself up. He got her killed by not doing so. It sucks for Alex, a lot, but for Ben you reap what you sow. He was so fixed on holding onto power on the island, nothing else mattered.

Season 4 is one of my favorites just because of all the bangers we get, as Eric said.

This episode is in my Top 3. It indicates a major shift in the series, imo. So amazing.

Yes to everything you said here.
Still remember watching this episode live. So crazy!!
One of my favorite episodes of Lost!
LMFAO at "He's Our You" statement
I love the title of this episode considering this was the first episode made after the writers strike stopped production.
the scene with Ben and Alex is just heart wrenching every single time

There's a Halifax in England too. Lovely place. Has a bank named after it 😅
And is the capital of nova Scotia, 🇨🇦.

It's funny that Rick thinks the Jacket says Hallifax lol. But he didn't get a good look at it I guess.

When you exhale, it's not cold lol. You also don't see "cold breath" when it's hot. You only see warm breath when its cold.
Indeed. It means Ben was still surrounded by some cold air from where he came.
wrong
The three characters get shot but somehow they constantly miss Sawyer. Is the island protecting him- it doesn’t make sense when he is standing near the other two that got shot.
A wizard (Jacob) did it
The answer is somewhat a spoiler if you haven't seen more of the show. Do you want to know?
Sawyer got shot in the Season One finale.

but that’s wrong. there are rules. it’s a big part of the show.
no, there were rules -- Ben never went after Penny -- but now he will
Judging from Ben's reaction, I would say there had been rules. And I don't recall Widmore stating otherwise when Ben confronted him in London.
