2003 🇺🇸 USA vs South Korea 🇰🇷 🏐 Women Volleyball 🏐 FIVB World Grand Prix

2003 World Grand Prix was the 1st time held in non-Asia countries. The location changed to Italy because of the SARS outbreak in Asia that year. The broadcast quality with huge room of improvement. 12 teams split into 2 pool and top 3 team entered into final round and played round robin to decide the champion.
Post-Match Commentary :
This was Day 4 match of final round. USA lost to Russia and China while Korea lost all 3 games earlier. Korea was 1st rank in preliminary round including beat down Russia and Brazil unexpectedly. Their coach was 1994-96 & 99-00 coach Kim.
USA was the 1st runner up of 2002 World Championship. Japanese coach made this American squad defence improved. #18 Metcalf (25yo, 1.84m) played with #15 Logan Tom (22yo, 1.84m) as outside hitter while #3 Haneef (24yo, 2m) as opposite hitter in Montreux but #1 Prikeba Phipps (34yo, 1.9m) & #13 Tara Cross battle (35yo, 1.8m) back in WGP. USA each position with 1 backup player can be used. The team was mix of relatively new and experienced players. Korean squad played defence and 'Zero-error' tactics volleyball. It was very passive but it worked sometimes. Vs Brazil they made less than 3 mistakes in 3 set match. There were no key outstanding players at all in the team, they played as team work. But #17 main spiker was injured during the match vs China, it made Korea wasn't their best form in this match and all the outside hitter was only 1.7m somthing tall, it was hardly to pass through the block of America.
