Yeah, I feel bad for him. He seems like a pretty decent guy. He should be getting a fair chance. But the hate seems to be more directed at Lucasfilm/Disney(rightfully so) and it's spilled over to him. Had TLJ been good and fans had been happy, I don't think this poor guy would get treated the way he is. But the anger is still fresh in the minds of fans because of how shitty TLJ was, how smug and arrogant Rian Johnson is, the identity politics involved in the creative process, and Kathleen Kennedy's aggressive stance towards older fans and male fans.

Hes probably a good actor (personally I haven't seen him in anything) but i just can't picture anyone other than Harrison Ford as Han Solo, i don't think i should feel bad about that.
It's totally warranted no one is calling him a shitty guy they just know he can't do han solo. Even in the trailers he can't deliver his lines well, he doesn't have the coolness that Harrison Ford had, the original directors had the dude do like 30 takes for one scene. Even Ron Howard isn't excited about the movie and he's the director.
Wait until you see the film to judge his performance. Usually helps.

marquisDesign The only difference is, unlike Han Solo, we had never seen the young Obi-wan before the prequels. This dude should act and look as similar as possible to Harrison Ford, or give an outstanding job to live up to expectations.
marquisDesign you realize he just won an Oscar, has been in tons of good films since then, and is the most desired member from the prequels to come back as either a cameo or his own Star Wars story? He was the best part of the prequels, /smh.
Funny enough, he reminds a little bit of how Harrison used to be on talk shows at a younger age. Funny, but rarely getting a huge laugh from the crowd, invested more in the conversation with the host while still seeming a touch uncomfortable in front of the many eyeballs, doesn't seem to think he's a real hotshot, things like that. Sure, he's not a spitting image of Ford, but as others have pointed out, doesn't seem like he's trying to be.
I'd rather have a guy *feel* like Han Solo and then exist inside of that character, rather than try to mimic a person and performance from years ago. I think that all of his charisma and likability will show onscreen, regardless of how strong the script is. But boy do I hope it's good.

Exactly! As much as I like Harrison Ford I'm a Han Solo fan and wanted a movie about the character, not someone doing a Harrison impersonation. I also wanted to see the friendship of Chewie and Han on the big screen again, and this movie delivered! Fun exciting movie, well written, and very well acted by the two characters I cared about most.

I really enjoyed "Solo: A Star Wars Story." It had a lot of action, great acting and respectful nods to the Star Wars universe. Seeing it again this weekend. All you who boycotted the film really missed a fun ride, IMHO.

For some reason a Star Wars movie has to be absolutely PERFECT for it to not get TRASHED. (especially by Star Wars fans)
Heaven forbid a Star Wars movie just be "good enough."
What used to be considered; "a good movie with a few problems" has become, "a bad movie with a few good parts." And a perfectly fine, enjoyable film seemingly generates extreme hate and vitriol when it happens to be part of that particular film franchise.
Because I'm only a year older than Star Wars, I've essentially grown up with it being extremely influential on me, and my childhood. And, after Return of the Jedi was released there was an excruciatingly long period we all had to endure with NOTHING, until the prequel trilogy finally dropped more than 15 years later.
My brother and I called it the "dark times" lol and it WAS.
All we had from when I was like 8 onward was the original trilogy, over and over again and the "Extended Universe." Which is basically just fan fiction with a passing, unspoken blessing from Lucasfilm.
Needless to say, going without experiencing the Universe I loved SO much gave me a very acute appreciation for anything new. And, although the prequels HARDLY lived up to the originals, most fans like me still accepted and appreciated them just as much.
If you're waiting for Lucasfilm to catch that nostalgic lightning in a bottle again, you're only setting yourself up for disappointment. And, life's just MUCH too short for all of that!
I'm not suggesting that people aren't allowed to dislike the movies, or complain about them. Who the HELL am I to tell anyone what they can and can't enjoy?!
All I'm saying is, people shouldn't let the "perfect" become the enemy of the "good." And, a person is not wrong for liking something that you don't.
Temper your expectations, too. Because the higher your hopes, the further the fall. 👍

I thought 'Solo" was adorable and well done. I loved all the easter eggs and how deeply they explored the beginnings of Han's relationships with Lando and Chewbacca, as well as the events that lead him up to working for Jabba. Alden is a terrific young Han Solo and also seems like a classy guy in real life. Can't wait to see more from him.
The next day theres a delivery at his house that includes a golden pen with inscription "Sorry i took your pen. - Shaq"

Harrison Ford's Han Solo has such a distinct, unique personality and swagger that it will be impossible to impersonate. It would be hard to pull off but I wouldn't want to necessarily see Alden Ehrenreich just do an impression of him the whole movie. I've seen some clips of Alden acting (like Hail Caesar!) and he's pretty good. Even as a die-hard Star Wars fan (except for 1, 2 & 3 done in the 2000s) I'm willing to give him a chance.

One of my top anticipated movies this year. I guess I'm in the minority that thinks he looks like Harrison. I love everything he's been in so far. I have a lot of faith in this even though I'd love to see the Lord and Miller version too.

They didn't have anything against him but about the seeming lack of continuity. Because in the prequels they said all the storm troopers are clones. Jango wasn't white either.
Dalton When the trailer dropped people hated to see a black storm trooper and they did give John negativity until some saw his personality off-screen. True fans don't exist. Fans are just fans. If you admire Star Wars and support it, you are a fan, period. Of course there are people that love Star Wars and know exactly almost everything about the universe, characters and story but I wouldn't call them much above other fans that love Star Wars without knowing exactly everything or having read the books or comics.
TBH, all the new character actors are just average or even worse. Not to add up to the fact that their characters in the movie are horrible and uninteresting. As long as its a legit criticism I don't see how its hate.

Alden is such a good actor 😍😍
He comes off very different in interviews, and that´s actually a good sign. I never liked how Daisy Ridley and John Boyega basically felt like Rey and Finn in their interviews. Good actors are supposed to bring different characters to life, not to be their natural self in front of the camera.
