"I'm a failure at this job!" - says a man who despite being stuck in a raging deadly HURRICANE casually decides to deep dive into CHAIR DESIGN as if its the normal thing to do in this situation, and while doing so pulls out a magnificently immersive full-ass hour and a half lecture out of his sleeve, and all of it in one take.... Imagine having this level humbleness.
This was so interesting I've watched this for another 10 hrs straight. Hats off.

Your familiar conversational approach is so refreshing, and I do not believe any apologies are necessary.

What you feel is "clumsy" about K.E.M. Weber's designs I find to be satisfying for those who desire solidity even from the "Streamline" aesthetic. Thrilling for me.

The story you have rtold about how Marcel Breuer got the idea for the monoframe/swingframe is axcactly the same story how Mart Stam figured it out. Mart Stam was actually the fist Bauhaus member who realised the chair. Unfortuanately bicycle tube was not strong enough. Through developments Marcel Breuer die manage to achieve a functional chair. Nevertheless thank you for the lecture.

Do you see what I see with Weber's designs? I think he is competing with Bel Geddes.

There really isn't one solid book to rely on. I use Carma Gorman's EXCELLENT Industrial Design Reader (primary sources!) and the Fiell's Industrial Design A to Z (a good easy overview with nice pictures). Let's hope someday the world gets interested enough that a real textbook is interesting to publishers!!!
