    This is really pretty, sad there are no wires though, seeing all the wires is my favorite part, didn't even know you could hide them
    Was fun kinda just improvising a slow melody on my piano while this played since you have the scale right there in the bottom leftish

    • @massimillennium
      @massimillennium  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would love to hear your piano improv, you can send it via patch storage patchstorage.com/author/massi/
      I love the patch cables too. I remove them before recording the video because I am trying to cater to a wider audience also outside of the VCV community.

    • @nebbyott
      @nebbyott หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@massimillennium Oh it's not talented piano playing! I just noticed your quantizer on the bottom middle left there and was dancing around with one note on one hand, no chords or anything like that, nothing worth recording xD
      I know it would be a bit of a task, but have you/would you consider making a video where you break this patch down, showing off how you made the different layers, generated the notes and chords, effects, oscillators, And different tricks you use to do useful things with signals for generative music? I would love to learn from you, or if you know some excellent tutorials. I've been playing around trying to make some generative music of my own but I struggle with a) making good sounding voices and b) making good generative chord progressions, I can do random or preset but I want to generate chord progressions with some logic? so it flows together well

    • @massimillennium
      @massimillennium  29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @nebbyott I've considered doing some tutorials but I really don't have the patience, and there are so many great tutorials out there I'm not sure viewers would really benefit from my tutorials. The tutorials of Omri Cohen are really good with some really interesting patching tricks. VCV rack ideas channel is really good for sound design. For sound design I usually find something I like, maybe an aphex twin track, concentrate on a single voice and try to replicate (e.g. aphex uses a lot of 2 voice square VCOs slightly detuned) and then maybe modulate so it fits better in my patch.
      In terms of progressions and music theory I really enjoy the open studio jazz tutorials (e.g. cush chords lesson is so good I've applied those harmonies quite a few times) I play the piano a bit so that helps. In this case I believe I just took the progression of From Gagarin's Point of View of Esbjorn Svensson Trio, 3 chords and a couple arpeggios tuned to the key, nothing more.
      So in terms of progressions I sometimes just pick a song I like and start from there, maybe adding some slight sophistications but nothing more.
      Hope that helps in the meantime.

      Hi, thanks I am glad you appreciate it. I don't have the equipment or the experience to give video tutorials. There are some great VCV rack and modular tutorials out there (Omri Cohen and others). If you pause the video you can figure out most of the patching even if cables are opaque. Maybe off topic or not, I built this on a rainy weekend in Amsterdam, away from family, with many thoughts and inspiration. I have built way more "sophisticated" patches, yet viewers seem to appreciate this one the most. This is to say for me it is always love and inspiration over technique. Not sure you can put this in the essay 😅

    No such key as D flat minor. Its hypothetical relative major would have to be F flat major, which doesn't exist because there's no way to specify the key signature that would define it. (B, E, A, D, G, C, F, then B double flat??? That would be contradictory. But C# minor / E major is just fine. F#, C#, G#, D#.) 🙄🤣 IYKYK

    • @massimillennium
      @massimillennium  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are correct, while theoretically possible, doesn't make any sense.
      More than a year has passed so I don't remember entirely the process, but I remember using some cords and notes from a handwritten transcript of an Esbjörn Svensson Trio track I found online (written with the incorrect key).
      From the chords in chord-key and the notes in the quantizer it is in A flat or F minor. Thanks for noticing.
