- We take a closer look into two 1950's true American land yachts! Those these two classic luxury cars may seem the same, there is much to talk about. We compare and point out the differences between a 1956 Emerald Green Eldorado Coupe with a 1956 Lemon Yellow Series 62 Coupe.

Wonder why the Eldo didnt have A/C maybe they needed more space in the trunk. You mentioned wonder bar radio what does that mean? Great job again. Thanks for sharing..and getting more people into classic cars.
Wonderbar means it was signal seeking, you pushed the bar (on you had the foot button) and the signal would change. Other makes had them too.
Wow, this sure brought back some good memories. My Dad was a true Cadillac man (although his race cars started with an MG TD and graduated to a factory prepared Jaguar XK150, later to an XKE), and he nought a new Caddy every 2-3 years. He had a new 56 Voupe de Ville in that pale green body with dark green top color scheme. In the summer of 1956 we took it from Wisconsin to Santa Monica, California (and return anout a month later), all via Route 66 after we got to Chicago. That was the second year of Disneyland, which wad the dream destination of every kid in America back then, anf, of course, we went thete too. Lots of afventures for my yoinger brother and myself along the way. It was a big, luxurious and distinctive car, really comfortable to travel in. He later traded it on a new 59 Eldorado convertible, Coral Blue with a blue top and blue interior, a true land yacht. He also had a new 56 Thunderbird with the port hole removable hardtop. He had a winch in the garage to take it off. It seemed that every time he took the top off we would get about 50 miles from home and it would start to rain. It is amazing how dry you can stay behind the windshield if you drive fast enough! Thanks for posting this video, back then cars had style and individuality.

Well done presentation and explanation. I never knew they had a vinyl top in 56 ! Any detail on where the series 62 horn from eldo came from ? I can see mine are NOT factory, why not upgrade ? Since mine is missing the jack, nice to see two complete trunks with liners. Any have the trunk pull down ? Look how they tilted the radiator cap. I'm thinking the coupe deville option had the chrome bars in the headliner, mine does, along with power windows. I will have to go see the sunvisors...

To me, the cool thing (literally) about that trunk mounted unit was that you could change the air on the left and right side of the car, adjusting for instance on whether you were driving on the sunny side or not. It was supposed to be the best car mounted unit in those early years.
My grandmother's cousin had one of these brand new.
Got a rough '58 60 Special with the Eldorado motor (3-2 bbls), air suspension, air conditioning, fog lights & gold kit. Whoever ordered it paid a ton of $. Be interesting to know how many were so equipped.

Some terminology within the first couple of minutes needing corrections: 1) The lights which you referred to as "parking lights" are turn signal lights/lamps. 2) The lights on the Eldorado that you refer to as "fog lamps" are also turn signals. 3) A Cadillac NEVER EVER had hubcaps. They are WHEEL COVERS--and there is a HUGE difference between hub caps and wheel covers. 4) The "fake exhaust" isn't fake at all (unless you re-routed it). Exhaust through bumpers went from 1952 through 1957 on all series. The 1958 Eldorado Brougham was the last Cadillac with the exhaust through the bumper. You need a little more accuracy in reporting. Facts can be so easily checked through the Cadillac and LaSalle Club to start with. This is how unchecked errors and inaccuracies get propagated on the web.
I love both, but the manual window cranks in the Series 62 is a letdown, especially considering that it's loaded otherwise.
Daddys was 4door but that 2 tone green was the color.

If they are fog lights at 1:17 where are the front turn signal lights?😀 I'm thinking they are turn signal lights as required by law, fog lights probably were an option placed up in grill next to or below those huge pointed dagmars and would be yellow/amber.
They were in the same bezel, 2 separate bulbs.
Darrell , I'll take your word for that as I never noticed two bulbs. I looked at the headlamp switch that, on both cars, is located below the Autronic eye. They are the same , I froze the video. I looked as video panned over the dash for a separate fog lamp switch and did not see one. BTW, the Eldorado engine set up with two 4 barrel carbs was available on the Series 62 from the factory. My Brother-in-law owned a 1956 Series 62 in the same paint scheme you show here equipped with the Eldorado engine, his had power windows but no air also, on his Series 62 the lamps were only turn signals. My first Cadillac was a 1963 Sedan DeVille Convertible, black with white top red leather interior, power everything including AC with AM and FM radio. Traded it in on a 1965 Gold convertible equiped the same.😀😀😀
@tomtransport '55 - '57 2-4 bbls were optional, '58 - '60 3-2 bbls were. On the fog lights there's a ring at the base of the light switch that turns those on. I believe left on, right off.
Thanks for the great comparison between the two remarkable cadillacs. Very nice job. My brother-in-law could never find anyone to sink up those two four barrel carbs. I remember he was alway cleaning black soot of the rear quarter panels above the duel exhaust ports in the bumper. It was a real sharp car, in 1956 I was 15 that November.@@darrellepickering8433
Not the height of Detroit design, these look like Chevys on steroids - puffy, bloated, and bulbous. The other 2 of Detroit's Big 3 were featuring much better looking cars in my opinion. Good video, thanks for posting.
They knew exactly what they were doing. Other automobiles offered the rectangle being skewed in design, and Cadillac knew they wanted to stretch and skew the shape of a oval. Every edge has a soft elegant curve, of course very similar to the early 1950-51-52 time period of automobiles.
People are so busy on modern, they ignore that we lived in the real world in 1956, not competitive sprawl Mr Sanders.

@@DSRQ1 leave the metaphors to me. People busy on modern clearly refers to favoring the newest design over anything that resembles prewar, usually choosing new over knew. Competitive sprawl is how you all associate and function today, often mocking older vehicles and only selecting a few like the 1957 Chevrolet or the 1955 Thunderbird or the 1962 Chevrolet Corvette. Never taking a chance on viewing the rest of the vehicle.
Also, the 1950s was an elegant age, and this design is the true 1950s, not the rocket facade, and it still wasn't the rocket facade since society was still wearing elegant suits and taffeta/silk/satin gowns, sophisticated makeup, and gloved hands, in very much what was a 1935 dress style mixed with the circle dress, and 1950 sheath silhouette. But this isn't a fashion circle but theres the general imagery you can pair the vehicles with then. That rocket look very much came out of nowhere, everything before that was typically jet inspired, boat, or plane. Streamlined and art deco.
