Not sure about the environmental footprint of this. Also, cannot understand the idea of harassing wildlife for pleasure. Seems so outdated.

Hi Rose, thank you very much for your message. I hope you have started this conversation with a healthy exchange in mind. Because, as mentioned in your first sentence, your are not entirely sure about the Carbon Imprint: Guilt-tripping individuals provides a handy distraction from our failure to make any progress at all on the measures actually necessary to solve the problem. When a resource is as useful as fossil energy, individual abstinence is not a way to reduce overall consumption. Even if Europe as a whole were ever actually to reduce consumption with a cap-and-trade scheme, reduced demand would depress fossil fuel prices, and consumption would bounce up elsewhere.
Of course, shifting the problem out of our conscious space is not a solution at all. In this particular case, the 35-minute flight from the Krka region into the Soca Valley has replaced a 4hr ride for two Vans full of equipment. Admittedly, most helicopters are not as fuel-efficient as most cars are. Helicopters burn about 4 times as much fuel as a car over the same amount of time, in this particular case, we did safe a lot of time though. We did combine it with our mission to obtain footage of Slovenia's highest mountain, which would otherwise be impossible (No drone territory)

Sorry, my message was cut in half - too long.
      Fishing
While fishing might not be your cup of tea, it's overall one of the fastest-growing recreational outdoor activities. During Lockdown 1 in the UK, the number of fishing licenses sold peaked at a staggering 114% plus. Anglers are spearheading countless sustainable projects ranging from small local projects ( simple bank cleanups from local fishing clubs) to global initiatives like No Pebble Mine, Patagonia's Safe the Blue Heart of Europe, Sin represas in Argentina, Multiple dam removal projects, Fundraising funded river and creek renaturation projects, repopulation of nearly extinct wild fish and so on. The list is endless. Anglers are stewards of the waters and have proven that sustainable angling and water management approaches will ensure healthy populations for generations to come. Catch and Release angling being part of a sustainable harvest approach. Certain animals are more suitable to maintain the genetic integrity of a river/lake/etc. Of course, motives might be selfish at times. As anglers, we do like our fish wild in wild rivers and lakes. That doesn't diminish the positive effect though.
As long as people are willing to pay top dollar for wild resources, people will preserve them to make a living off it. Often creating safe havens and restricted fishing areas. A living fish is usually much more worth and a dead fish by the lb.
The Slovenian tourist board holds anglers in high regard as their breadwinners amongst other outdoor enthusiasts. Here some numbers from the Florida keys:

Fantastic video of our tremendous sport. Rose obviously has no understanding whatsoever regarding the connection between fly fishing and the preservation of numerous species that would go out of existence if it wasn’t for the conservation efforts of fly fishermen (and the women who fish too...).
I’m astounded by the willful ignorance of people who make such comments. So sad. So pathetic.
My warmest congratulations to everyone involved with this production. It was very inspirational and since my own daughter is one why fly fishes and is teaching her daughter to fish, I especially applaud the young lady who hosted this film. It’s great to see the younger generations promoting our beloved pastime.
Rose, you should open your mind and expand your horizons and pick up a fly rod and have the experience of a lifetime. Then you can get involved in your part of the world and help make a difference to preserve what otherwise will be lost to indifference, apathy, and ignorance. You might become the next champion of fly fishing and leave your mark on the world. We invite your participation.
