The owners of this Ponsonby home, which appeared to be just another drab villa, used colour to stand out from their neighbours. The house painters had painted the interior of this property some years before and were well familiar with the work that was necessary on the exterior.
As with many homes erected in the 1890s, the era's exceptional craftsmanship was on full show. With intricate filagree, sweeping turned balustrades, and stained glass windows, this project needed substantial planning to repair.
The windows had been painted several times throughout the years and were peeling and cracking. These were sanded, primed, and filled before being painted. The weatherboards were in good shape for their age and only needed sanding and filling.
